I chose to analyze the show “Jane the Virgin.” Jane the Virgin is an American satirical romantic comedy drama developed by Jennie Snyder Urman. Jane is a 23 year old that what accidently inseminated and ended up pregnant from a guy that she was in love years before. This show has many special effects and camera angles.

This show has many scenes in which everything that is going through Jane’s mind we know. There were many scenarios going through her head and this help the audience get to know her better by knowing what she is thinking without her having to actually saying anything. For example, there is a scene where Janes turn in an assignment to her professor and when she gets it back it has comment written all over it. The comments tell her everything that she has to improve but she thinks that her essay is perfect and instead of telling her professor what she actually thinks she just said that next time she will try harder. While in her head Jane had a scenario of her screaming and arguing with her professor on how her essay is perfect. Another example is when Jane is writing her paper. She has many ideas that come to her head on what to write, and we get to know what those ideas are by being able to see what she is thinking. She never ends up writing what about those great ideas that came to her mind because it would be something that her professor would not like.

This show also has scenes where Jane doesn’t know what to do and a person appears to help her decide what to do. The other person that appears is herself but she actually knows what to do and gives advice to Jane. For example when Jane found out that she was accidentally inseminated and pregnant she did not know what to do. She had a boyfriend but she had also been getting to know the guy that was going to be the father of her baby. Jane had feelings for both and she didn’t know who she really wanted to be with. Until one night Jane was alone and de appearance of a Jane that did know what to do helped her make her decision. Before she made her decision they talked and imagined all the possibilities and outcomes that could happen. Also the most important thing was talking about Jane’s feeling and being able to decide who she wants to raise her baby with. As second time that this happens to Jane is when she gives birth and someone takes her baby from the hospital. When Jane finds out that her baby is gone she goes crazy, doesn’t know what to do and no one can calm her down. Jane gets a call and they tell her where her baby is at but they want something in exchange. After this call Jane is still very anxious and doesn’t know what to do until she had the appearance of the Jane that knows exactly what to do. She tells Jane that everything is going to be okay, to be calm and everything will work out. Jane finally calms down and hours later she has her baby back in her hands. In my opinion the appearance of another person has hindered this shoe because in reality people do not have the appearance of others during difficult times or when they are undecided.

Lastly this show has many scenes from the point of view of Jane’ baby. He is a baby so he can’t talk, and we still get to see what he is thinking. Throughout the show we knew that the baby was confused as to who was his father. He was very confused on why his mom was seeing and dating a different guy than the one he called dad. He was too young to be able to ask his mom all the questions he had and everything he wondered about so without us being able to see from his perspective we would have never known what was going on through his mind. We were also able to that he loved his mother and even though he was confused on why he had two dads we knew that he was a very happy boy. My opinion of adding this perspective to the show is that in enhanced it. The baby plays a very important role in this show and it was essential to be able to know what was going through the baby mind.

I have chosen to analyze the movie “To All the Boys I’ve Loved.”  The name of the movie didn’t really catch my attention but as people say “don’t judge a book by its cover.”  This is a teen romance movie that is based on a book.  After watching this movie trailer I was completely convinced that I had to watch this movie.  I knew I had to watch this movie because it was so realistic and I was able to relate with the leading actor on most of the scenes. The producer of this movie trailer accomplished their goal of convincing me to watch this movie by using ethos, pathos, and logos.

               The trailer starts off by Lara’s dad driving her to school and before she goes to a school trip and he tells her to have lots of fun but to also be careful. While she is getting off the car he gives her a pack of condoms and this is the first example of logos that is shown. Many people would think that it should be Lara’s mom giving her this conversation instead of her dad, but she does not have her mom with her anymore. Her mom passed away when she was very young and she only lives with her dad and two sisters. Another example of logos is when Lara’s younger sister gives out Lara’s secret letter that she once wrote to all the boys she has loved. She had five written letters that no one had ever read but her, until one day her younger sister sent the letter to each of the boys. After they each received their letter they went looking for Lara and that was when Lara found out that someone had sent her letters out.  This is an example of logos because if the letter had never been sent out none of the guys would have found out that Lara loved them or once did.

               One example of ethos being used in the movie trailer is when we find out that one of the letters that was written was for Lara’s older sister’s boyfriend. He was Lara’s best friend and she had a huge crush on him before he became her sister’s boyfriend. Of course Lara didn’t want anyone to find out about this but her little sister sent the letter even though she knew that the guy who she was sending the letter was their sister’s boyfriend. This is also an example of suspense because it makes the audience want to watch this movie to find out what happens between the two sisters once they find out that they both once liked the same guy. A second example of logos is when Lara agrees to have a fake boyfriend.  It all starts when Peter receives the letter that was sent to him and finds out that Lara had crush on him. He is one of the most popular guys in school and had recently broken up with his girlfriend. He wanted to make his ex-girlfriend jealous so he proposed the idea to Lara of having a fake relationship. Peter knew that Lara was going to agree with this because she liked him. The movie trailer shows that Lara jean agrees to this pretend relationship and it hooks the audience to keep watching in order to find out how this ended up.

               One example of ethos that is being used in this movie trailer is the fact that Lara jean wrote the five love letters. She was a very shy girl in high school and barely even had friends, so instead of telling people about her feeling she wrote them down and kept them a secret. This shows how this movie has a lot of emotion and can make the audience relate in order for them to watch the movie. Another example of ethos is toward the end of the movie trailer. There is a scene where Peter and Lara argue and stop talking after they agreed on being in a fake relationship, but Lara goes and looks for him to school. She is has always been scared to drive but this time she drove herself to school just to talk to Peter. We do not know what exactly she is going to tell him because it was not shown in the movie trailer, but the fact that she drives to school on her own shows how important and how much she loves Peter.  The last example of ethos being used is how Lara lost her mother at such a young age and how Peter’s dad left his family when he was very young too. They both can relate to each other on how it feels like living without one of their parents. This scene expresses so much emotion because they are both very sad, but at the same time they are happy. They are happy because they have finally found someone with who they can talk to and not feel judged.

               In conclusion this movie trailer persuaded me to watch this movie and the movie turned out to be even better than the movie trailer. The producer of this trailer couldn’t have done its job of persuading me to watch this movie without using ethos, pathos, and logos, but since it had great examples using all three of them I was hooked into watching it. The movie itself had a lot more emotion that it could make the audience drop a tear, but I can also bring a good laugh. This movie was great that after I watched it, it made me want to read the book series. There are three books to this series and I had to get all three of them.  Also this movie trailer will most likely persuade younger people to watch the movie because of its plot. Most of the movie takes place in a high school, but it is also a great movie to watch for fun for older people.

   The movie trailer I chose to evaluate is for the movie Nerve, After watching the trailer of the movie Nerve I was fully convinced that I had to see this movie. The producer of this trailer made sure to catch my interest by putting together the most compelling scenes. Each scene that was added to this trailer had one purpose which was to persuade me to watch this movie. This worked because I had to watch this movie and find out for myself exactly what happened and what the ending of the movie was. This movie trailer, the same as many other trailers and advertisements, used ethos pathos and logos to be able to convince me to watch this movie.

           The trailer starts off with a girl being asked “are you a watcher or a player” by one of her friends. She lets herself be convinced to be a player and we can now infer that this whole movie will be about a game. There are scenes that let us know that this will be a dangerous game because it risks their lives by giving the players dares. These dare have to be accomplished in order to able to move on to the next level in the game. As each dare is being done they get more difficult. One of the first dares that was given to this girl was to kiss a stranger for five seconds. After she completes this dare she runs into him and they are to become partners in the game, so now the dares that are being assigned to them will be done together. As they go around completing the dares more and more people start finding about the game and about them. They are “famous” because of this game, for they are the ones that have completed the greatest number and riskiest dares. They both have fun until the point where the girl thinks it is enough because the dares are getting out of hand and they find out that other people have been dying from playing this game. By this time the girl wants to quit and go back to living her normal like but it is too late. The both have become prisoners of this game, and the only way to go back to their normal life is to be the winner of the game.  There can only be one winner so they one play to survive.

           Pathos is being used throughout the whole movie trailer. First it shows how the girl that is playing the game is enjoying it and having fun. Then she grows tired and annoyed will all the nonsense dares that she is being given, but by this time it is too late for her too quit the game. The game is taking over her life and her families. She loves her family and wants to save them, so she is not willing to quit. This makes me think about how much I love my two sisters and parents, and if I were in her place I would do the same in order for my family to be okay.  Emotions that I can relate to, like the ones presented in this trailer, persuade me into watching this move.

           Ethos is also being used throughout this movie trailer. I believe the whole movie is about ethics primarily because it is a game that risks their life. The producer of the trailer added many scenes were the actors decided what to which each dare they were given. This added suspense to the movie trailer because I wanted to know what was going to happen after each dare. This definitely convinced me to watch the movie.

           Lastly, in this movie trailer logic is being used by adding suspense. The main reason to add suspense is to make the audience continue watching a certain TV show or movie. When suspense is added it is logic that it will persuade people to watch the movie to find out what will happen next. There were many scenes in this movie trailer that seemed very dangerous and it was risking people’s life .As I stated before each dare kept getting more and more difficult to complete and I wanted to find out how the game that was being played was going to end. In conclusion suspense is a very logic way of inducing to watch a movie.

        To sum up, this trailer did a great job in persuading me to watch the movie. There were effects being used that made the trailer seem like a very interesting and risky game that the actors where playing. It had many neon colors and the sound effects were also very similar to those of an online game. This helped catch my attention because it made it seem that the movie will always have you looking out for something as if you were the one playing the game. I ended up watching this movie and it was as great at the movie trailer.
