Altzmyr drew a deep sigh. This wasn’t the first time when he brought up the idea of immortality or just extended life people said they’d be okay with a designated lifespan, even a short one. At times, the necromancer wondered if he was one of the few people who truly loved life and everyone else just didn’t want to have death forced upon them and would let the gods choose.
But he noticed the other’s change in tone and demeanor. This wasn’t just run-of-the-mill “Oh I don’t want to see the world change around me so much I’m an antique” or “But then all my loved ones will die around me”, this was different, this was something more like some of the words uttered by his own father at the worst of times…
His face wasn’t bitter anymore, rather worried. His shoulders tensed and his eyes fell to his cup.
“I…I’m sorry. Something awful must have happened to you…I’m sorry…but why has life been like this to you?” He replied.
--- Now, it wasn’t as if Olithier truly hated life, if anything it was the exact opposite. He knew that compared to most he’d experience more of it than many. It simply was this, that he believed that a false life was not a true life. It was not a life gifted by the Morninglord but granted unto themselves by means of darker magics. Still, the other’s words were to turn the elf’s attention back on them.
A smile returned to his lips, albeit a sad one, as he shook his head. <I have only a wish to see people happy, to regale my tale to one I seldom know would bring no joy to either of us,> For but a moment, Olithier’s hands would tighten around his own cup of tea, one that had, until that moment, been entirely forgotten. <We are handed trials, it would seem. Those that we must endure. That will either break us or make us stronger,> he paused, sipping his now cooling tea, <I am sure the same can be said of yourself.>
Another sigh escaped him. Yet this time he’d only remain quiet for but a moment, his expression turning thoughtful,
<Ah! I have just realised something. I have a friend, one who I have just found out is also one who commands the necromantic arts. I have since realised that I have no wish to lose them as a friend, despite not agreeing with their... Beliefs. I... Well, if you would be so kind. Perhaps you could explain to me yours?>
