In a way, I think translated literature is almost not worth it. It’s like saying “hey I know you wrote this piece for a string quartet, but now i’m going to play it with 80 plastic recorders.”

It’s only kind of the same.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s important to read foreign authors, but I get the feeling that I’m not getting the full impact of whatever I’m reading because it wasn’t written in the language that I’m reading it in.
