“[Hey Mumbo!]” He waved before looking back at his friend. “[And...well, I dunno! I think we’re both pretty good – right, shorty?]”
Clanker laughed. “i...yeah i’m good, but i dunno about pretty. it’s uh, been a while, hasn’t it?”

“[‘G-gogglebrain’? That’s a new one!]” Gloop laughed. “[So how’ve you been, Kaz? Still up for another adventure sometime?]”
"Hey, I’ve had plenty of time to think of insults, Glubble-Fish!" Kazooie had a gleam in her eyes. "I’ve been pretty good, trying to keep Banjo from falling into laziness again. Of course I’m up for an adventure! I want to kick that witch’s butt again! Say, how are things in that dank old water-world of yours?"
Kazooie blinked. Gloop had seem pretty surprised. “Talon Torpedo? It lets me hop out of Banjo’s pack and swim really fast. So fast it’s hard to control myself, actually. Why would that matter to you, Scaly?”
“[And – and you could beat up Snacker with it?]”
Gloop couldn’t believe his ears.
“[How do you do it, huh? Huh?]” He circled around Kaz, bubblier than ever. “[Like, d’you gotta put your fins up kinda like this – like a big ol’ punch to his dumb, jerky face? Or is it more of like a...a...you’ll teach me, won’t you?]”
“[‘G-gogglebrain’? That’s a new one!]” Gloop laughed. “[So how’ve you been, Kaz? Still up for another adventure sometime?]”
"Hey, I’ve had plenty of time to think of insults, Glubble-Fish!" Kazooie had a gleam in her eyes. "I’ve been pretty good, trying to keep Banjo from falling into laziness again. Of course I’m up for an adventure! I want to kick that witch’s butt again! Say, how are things in that dank old water-world of yours?"
For a split-second, Kazooie thought she had the best of the fish. Of course not. “Hey, well you swim around and eat garbage and dirty water, Scale-Brain!” She snapped back. “I have my Talon Torpedo move that Jelly-Jars taught me, so I shouldn’t have to worry about Snacker.” Though in all honesty, if she noticed Snacker was too close, she’d hop right back to Banjo. But Gloop didn’t need to know that.
“[Wh...what? Who told you that?]” Gloop tilted his head, totally lost – hadn’t he already told her that he didn’t eat trash? ...Or was she just teasing him?
Knowing Kazooie, it was probably the latter.
“[I don’t go and see shorty just to get a free meal – I don’t even have a cast-iron stomach! ...And even if I did, I’d probably still end up sick, ‘specially since Clanker...]”
A troubled look suddenly came over his face, though it was gone just as quickly – something she’d said had caught his attention.
“[Wait, you have a move that can what?]”

Kazooie forced her feathers to lie down. This fish didn’t take anything seriously! “I was thinking go back to the old worlds and getting the Music Notes that constantly reappear. Other than that boring one of yours, of course. But maybe I could convince everyone to dig more tunnels around Spiral Mountain. We did have a whole game based on that, you know!” She paused. At this point, Gloop might do anything she told him. “Hey, Gill-Guts, why don’t you see if you can be useful and find some places underwater?”
Gloop’s smile faded almost instantly – had the breegull really just called him and his friend boring?
“[Hey, we’re not – !]” He began to glub in protest before stopping himself. “[Right, ‘cause sitting around and eating junk food all day’s definitely a lot more exciting, huh Kaz?]” The fish rolled his eyes. “[And there’s tons of places like that around Treasure Trove Cove, if you don’t mind bein’ chased around by the biggest jerkface of all time, that is.]”
"{Rumor has it that I'm spending a lot more time in other places, when I've been here the whole time! Why is that, bubblebreath?}"
“[I-I dunno, Kaz! You’re the one acting like you haven’t seen me in ages.]”
"{Then again, lobotomy isn’t so bad. Much better than what I was thinking before.}"
"{It’ll give me a chance to see what makes you so irritating.}"
“[Gee, Kaz – are you sure you’re all right? That’s a pretty funny way of saying ‘irresistible’.]”
“[A-and hey! Even if there was something fishy going on with my head, I still wouldn’t let you just beak bust it open!]”

Despite his best efforts, Gloop couldn’t help but giggle at Kaz’s ruffled-up feathers and at the expression on her face. The poor bird had obviously been forced to take way too much of a backseat in the last game.
“[Aw, c’mon Kaz – I was only just kidding. ‘Sides, I don’t think I’d ever be able to give you a run for your Jiggies, since...well, y’know!]” Smiling, he waved his fins at her before crossing them tightly. “[But where were you gonna take Banjo, anyway? You guys’ve already been everywhere, haven’t you?]”
"Today's Tuesday, right? Garbage day still going on, Rust-Bucket?"
"{Rumor has it that I'm spending a lot more time in other places, when I've been here the whole time! Why is that, bubblebreath?}"
“[I-I dunno, Kaz! You’re the one acting like you haven’t seen me in ages.]”
"{That’s it, you’re going to see a doctor.}"
"{Hopefully they can figure out that lima bean that you call a brain.}"
“[Then what does that make your brain if I can at least remember things that happened two weeks ago?]”

“[Wait, really?]” Gloop blinked – the breegull had hardly needed any convincing at all, and in that case… “[Maybe both of you guys should take a break, then…I mean, now that you’re in good fins and all!]”
“[Just leave everything to us!]”
"Hi, fishies! I think I need some help..."
“oh, hey!” Clanker smiled and waved a fin at his unexpected guest. “how’ve you…uh, really?”
“[Yeah really! Didn’t you hear ‘im?]” Gloop giggled. “[Don’t worry, we’ve got this…so what kinda help did you need, anyway? Me and shorty’ll take care of things no sweat!]”
"Well…I was giving Sir Kumquat a bath…when he sorta…slipped down the drain…I think he wound up out here…"
“…oh.”
Clanker and Gloop gave each other a look. They hadn’t had any other visitors all day, and to the best of their knowledge, they’d never met anyone by the name of ‘Sir Kumquat’. Hopefully the slippery escapee either had gills or could hold his breath for a really long time.
Otherwise…
“[Here!]” Gloop swam over to Chicken Man and held out a fin. “[I can take you through the pipes if you’d like, since – well, air bubbles and all.]” He blew one to demonstrate. “[‘Sides, it’ll go a lot faster if we’re looking together…right?]”
“[‘G-gogglebrain’? That’s a new one!]” Gloop laughed. “[So how’ve you been, Kaz? Still up for another adventure sometime?]”
