I have one younger brother and 2 younger sisters that live with me and my mother and one sister 5 years older than I. Because my father was never around right from the start as he came and went I felt I had to take initiative and become the father. My mother had a closet full of fake flowers and she would decorate the house with them and change the arrangements constantly and I would help of course. While she was thinking creatively, I stood back and watched and waited for her full attention. I got down on one knee and proposed with fake flowers, every single time she pulled out some new arrangement. She'd laugh and say yes every time.
My brother, who is three years younger than I needed a role model and I felt responsible. Because I was the man of the house at the time I had felt who better than a "male" role model. Since my brother was old enough to play I would always play rough as if I were a boy. I have an older sister from a different father who had custody over her and rarely saw her throughout my childhood. Aside from my oldest sister I had not had any sisters to play with until a year later and even then, they couldn't play or reflect a personality until a couple of years later. By the time my sisters came along my brother and lack of a male parental figure had already altered my personality greatly; it was too late, I was a tomboy.
My masculinity score is 6.65, which is way more than 4.9. the approximate median for the masculinity scale. My femininity score is 6.4 far from the approximate median  of 4.9 for the femininity scale as well. I am classified as androgynous according to the Bem Sex Role Inventory. I am not to surprised with my scoring as to where I stand based on my femininity and masculinity however, I am surprised as to what I have been labeled according to the BSRI, androgynous. To be quite honest I have never known the actual definition to the word and I am most surprised t the definition and the label based on a few personality quirks.
