"Madison, Wisconsin is a college town at heart. But surrounding our dormitories, classrooms and many libraries is a community of musicians bent on supporting one another and fostering a sense of togetherness to create a scene. While we may not be as big as other renowned music meccas, Madison can boast that its community is tighter—and therefore stronger—than most. Here are eight of our acts you should probably get to know."Â

A Few Thoughts on Releasing 'ALL LIVING THINGS'
In just a couple short days, we’ll be able to finally share with everyone something we have worked on for so long. It’s been exactly a year since we first drove down to Chicago and started recording what became “All Living Things.” It has been one of the most patience-testing, rewarding, difficult, and amazing experiences any of us have gone through. And soon this won’t be our project anymore, it will be yours. We hope a couple years from now you can listen to this album and remember the end of Summer 2013. You can remember that chilly July weather where it felt like autumn in Wisconsin. You can remember the break-ups and let-downs, the late nights and whiskey shots. Whatever you do with this album, we just hope it leaves a lasting impression. We hope “All Living Things” for you is what “Stay What You Are,” “The Illusion of Safety,” “Control,” or even “Dude Ranch” was to us. Thank you so much for being so excited about Circus Fires. We just want to make music our friends and family would enjoy listening to, and every time we hear new people enjoying it…that family gets a little bigger. If you like what you hear in the next couple days, please share it with other people. Your word-of-mouth is going to take us farther than any blog post ever could. We’ll have more info on how to purchase the album and all that fun stuff, but once again…thank you for listening.

"Tracking new full-length for Madison’s Circus Fires Circus fires is a band from Madison that I first heard over the winter. They were playing a show with friends of mine in So Many Ways and Late In The Playoffs. I immediately was drawn to their throwback sound to mid-90′s indie/emo that I grew up listening to. Their sound takes cues from Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate, and the Weakerthans. They came down to Chicago for a few days in July to start tracking their new full-length. We chose to work at Atlas Studios, owned by engineer/producer Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, The Smoking Popes.) This was my first time engineering at Atlas and I’m looking forward to doing more projects there. The room sounds big but not muddy, as large rooms tend to sound. Paul, the drummer, brought in a C&C custom kit. The combination of a nice room, great equipment, and high-end drums made for a smooth drum tracking session. We finished the weekend with drums and bass done. This past weekend we locked ourselves in at Multi Track Chicago and finished most of the guitar. The band is back home now, but will be returning soon to finish guitars and vocals. I’m very excited for you to hear this release." - Mark Michalik

We Better Get Goin' If We're Gonna
A few weeks back, we announced that we are heading to Chicago for a few days to begin tracking our first record. Having played a few shows in Chicago in March with our pals Late In The Playoffs, we met Mark Michalik who had produced and engineered their five song EP. We immediately thought how great it'd be if we could do a record with him. He's done some really great records that we all love (Stay Ahead of The Weather, The Swellers, Into It. Over It.) We also have chosen to track these songs at Matt Allison's Atlas Studio (Alkaline Trio, Lawrence Arms) and are very anxious to get into that room. Â
Coming off of a few-month long break to write new songs, revisit older ones, and dig up some ancient ones, we are more than excited to place all these songs under one audible roof. We're really excited to get back on a stage and play these new songs and a bunch of old ones for you. Â Upcoming shows:
FRI JULY 27 Â - MADISON - FREQUENCY Â - w/ READY THE COLOURS, WOODSON
FRI AUG 17 - MADISON - FREQUENCY - w/ FROM INDIAN LAKES, WOODSON
Check back next week as we will be updating our blog right here as we are tracking the recording process. Â
Best,Â
Paul (@paulsirianni)
