You gotta marry anybody. You marry someone like Jack Pearson. Dude ran back into a house almost completely engulfed in fire, saved the dog, and on his way out grabbed shit that he thought was important and probably irreplaceable.

one thing i like about this is us is it doesnt always go for the cliche emotional scenes? like they could’ve showed a dramatic resuscitation scene, but they didn’t. i feel like they depict real life better by avoiding dramatics like that. like of course rebecca doesn’t think jack is on death’s door and went to get a candy bar instead of refusing to leave his side, anyone else would’ve done the same. death isn’t like the movies, and we aren’t always there to witness it. that, i think, leaves a bigger impact than the cliche scene that we probably expected.

jack dying of smoke inhalation after everyone thought he was ok is a million times worse than him dying in the fire.
