STAR WARS REBELS SEASON 1 REVIEW
going to do this for every season for funnies also don´t take it too personally or serious.
season one was a mixed bag, the pacing was a little off on many places it went on too fast for my liking, it made me a little disorientated sometimes. I even had to go rewinding few episodes due to this.
however due to this fast pacing it also meant that you would never really get bored.
there was also a problem with tonal whiplash, on episode ends with Kana giving Ezra space and then the next one is him demanding Ezra to open up for him.
I somewhat like the characters, I think they all have unique enough personalities that you get their gist however they are still kind of meh to me on some aspects.
Sabine is actually the one character i was most disappointed about i like the idear of an artist mandalorian and her being able to understand other laungages is cool. I just think she suffers a lot from the "and im the girl!" Syndrome which shouldn't have been a problem since is Hera is there. I hope they work more with Sabine as a character.
the last 3 episodes of season 1 was really good. the tonal whiplash was gone, the pacing was not too fast and i like the fact Ezra deciding to take a risk, is a big character development moment for me. a big part of Ezra's fears is loosing people due to taking risks him going out of his way to do so is good.
As well as finally making the Empire look more menacing and threatening. Big problem with earlier on in the season was making the empire look too childish and lenient when it came to the groups sabotage. Which indirectly made the rebels look like a group of children playing pranks on some neighbor and not a group of people fighting against a facist regime.
The visuals are....fine they get the job done i can clearly see the clone wars art style influence some of the textures yet by the looks of it they never fully committed to a specific texturing style making some characters look like plastic. This also goes with some movement on some of the characters limbs. Heras lekku would flop around in ways that was distracting and unnatural as well as Tseebo's head tentacles just flapping around from what would be small body movements.
wish is that the bodies was more stylized, both Kanan Ezra and even the inquisitor have wherry similar body types I wish they would have styled the bodies more so they could stand out for one another. something as simple as pushing shapes of the designs could have worked wonders.
Currently my feelings is that season 1 of rebels is a 4/10 season the 3 last episodes carries the season heavily and if I wasn't already a star wars fan I wouldn't have recommended this series as a first tome watcher.
I do however have faith in the show to get better throughout the second season because the last 3 episodes improved on a lot of the problems I personally had with the start of the season.
