Catching Up
Ciara paced back toward the desk, “You never made me feel that way.” She spoke softly, “You made me feel free. Like I was worth more than just what I could do for him. Even if doing for him meant giving you my body. I was supposed to use ‘any means necessary’ to get you into his army.” She stopped when she got to his desk, “I couldn’t do it. I didn’t want to.” She looked down at the floor, “I was planning on running away that night.”
"Good, I’m glad." It was a slight reassurance to know that he had made her feel welcome on board, he had tried especially knowing what Kallisto was like with her, it was only fair to make sure she had someone looking out for her. "Well you are, nobody deserves that not matter what they had done for them. Just because he saved your life does not mean that you should have to pay in return with your own, it doesn’t work like that." Well not in Aviks book, but people thrived off power and control and he would never understand why. "I figured out exactly what he was doing and I was not playing his little game, the man could have just come to me and spoken about it and I may have considered his proposal, but he went behind my back and used you to get to me in order to sway me, it was not one. I am glad he has gone and that you are now your own person Ciara.”
Ciara leaned on the desk, facing him, "I am my own person, and I would like nothing more than to be the healer on the ship. But not if it means we can't talk like this." She spoke softly, "I like you. I like our conversations. I like that you don't see me as merely a possession." She straightened up, "We are a lot alike. Neither of us wants to let anyone in because we don't want to be hurt."
