identifying camera shots.

most of the shots are locked off. except the establishing shot has a slight zoom in, slight tilt up when it introduces the boys and the scene they in. (shows the broken car.)  theres a pan of the dad when he's introduced and a zoomed out at the end when they driving away.

i think this video is a good example of the 180 degree rule. once all the boys are in the car the camera doesn't go over that imaginary line. theres side views from outside the car that show both of the main boys in the frame. depending on whose talking and what they are doing is where the camera is.

post production- story we came up with was that me and sean were packing up our gears and getting ready to go home, we meet up in the reception area (where people wait for their ride to arrive.) du the 'sup nood' and he tries to hustle a dollar from me.

Sound interview- deborah

this is work in progress. for our interview we got deborah, she had alot of talking to do so it was hard to cut everything down into 1minute. i would have liked to get some cut aways so that wen i edited it, it would look more fluid and it would give the viewer an idea of what she does. maybe even put some noddies in there as well. i shud have done pre-production plan first of the shots needed. il know better for next time.

i worked with jes, i did the sound and she set up the camera. we decided it would be a locked off shot and it would be a midshot. ideally we wanted to shoot in the workshop because thats Deborahs creative space but there was to much ambient noise happening in the background so we went to the library where it was quiet and theres alot of windows for natural lighting.  

whilst recording i was unaware of the librarian in the background, watching the video i found her quite distracting from the main subject. More communication between me, jes and the librarian could have prevented this. 

when recording sound i could hear the air-con in the background, i was worried that this would effect my final outcome but its quite subtle and the background music drowns it out.

3 actions-camera movement

experimenting with camera movements. i choose tilt for two of my shots and dolly/track for another shot. 

tilt up: this is my favourite movement out of all three because the movement is clean and i feel that my exposure/ wb looks gud. sean taught me a little trick, which was to use a rubberband to pull the handle of the tripod. the rubberband acts as a shock absorber so any unwanted shakes from my hand will be absorbed into the rubberband giving me a stable, steady tilt.

the dolley shot was the most difficult. i had to get jes to pull the trolley while i made sure the camera had my two subjects in the frame. its was hard to keep the pan smooth because i  was walking and panning at the same time plus the ground was uneven so the camera picked up alot of shaking and it was quite unstable. i think that i could stablize it in our after effects lesson.

Chase Scene

we were told to film a chase scene today. to show our knowledge of camera shots, how to use the camera, planning out a shoot (creating a storyboard) and working as a team. to start we brainstormed ideas for the genre of our story and what it would be about, once we established that we started to draw up a storyboard, identifying the different camera angles to be used in each scenes as well as the actions. by doing this we would be more prepared for when we shoot and we wont doodle  

Whats working:

i like how my audio is in sync with the video, especially wen the protagonist (sam) firsts sees the masked people and realises her friend is one to. the creepy music and the timing of it makes it seem way cooler then what it actually is. thats my favourite part.

im quite happy with my end product. shows the story wel even tho i didn't incorporate all the scenes.

use of video effects. 'fade to black' help build up the intensity.

Whats not working and what next:

lighting and exposure needs to be adjusted. since we shot on 2 different days the lightings different because of the weather. -to fix this, i would have either adjusted the iso/shutter speed to make the lighting better or in premier, dragged the brightness effect over the video and adjusted it there

within our post production planning there was alot of misunderstanding within the group. which made abit of tension, but in the end we settled it and came together as a team and finished the project. i think we needed to improve our communication skills just so that next time no one misunderstands anything.

whats working:

whats not working:

song choice: i only wanted the instrumental version to this song cause i thought it was a happy walking beat but my friend thats in the band couldn't find it so this would have to do. the lyrics don't really suit the song.

scale/distance: for me to fit what i wanted into the background, the distance from me and the camera is different between each frame. makes some clips longer then others and makes me bigger and smaller in different frames.

walking pace: i walk slow then fast, i should have kept my speed of walking at a consistent pace so that it would have made the timing on the clips more even.

Whats next:

be more prepared with song choices. make sure they are available or have other choices of songs so that i dont have to settle with something i dont want.

do more experimentations to help determine how much space i needed for the background to stay the same distance throughout the entire video.

okey dokey. in this video i wanted to playaround with the different camera angles and camera shots. ive decided to go with a wide angled shot so that my whole bodys in the frame and because it shows heaps of the background which is the main-ish part of my video. i thought that a low camera angled shot would look cool but neeeh i dont really like it cause the scenery in the background dosnt stand out as much. so ima go with a eye levelled shot. i shot one part of the video outside so that i could adjust the white balance to suit the lighting. i also played with the sound effects and video transitions on premier, just to see how they work.

Okey Dokey, so One day this randomly came to me in a dream so I thought id make it into reality. the idea that I have for my video is to record myself walking past specific places/monuments around my hometown of Ngaruawahia. When I was little me and my brother would always go roaming around the town, either on our bikes or walking. so this be in memory of my childhood.

As an experiment I directed and recorded my lil cuz walking in a straight line throughout different parts of the house. I wanted her to keep her head straight and focus on whats in front of her. to me this will represent me moving forward and focussing on whats ahead, while these places in the background will always be in my memory, they may look ordinary to others but have a significant meaning.

I improvised with my own digital camera as all the school cameraz were booked out. I don't have premier on my computer so I used the youtube video editor to edit this. I used the 'slowmo' effect to slow down her walking. and cut the video with no transitions, to kept the video constant. this being a draft video of what I wana do helps me decide on all the important factors of creating a legit looking video, and points out the things im doing wrong and forgetting.

Things for me to consider: Lighting, Weather, Camera positioning- (distance from subject, what its focusing on), costume, audio

Lighting

In this video I had very poor lighting and I didn't adjust my camera to suit the lighting conditions. since ill be shooting my scenes outside ill have to adjust the camera to suit the natural lighting. dependent on the weather.

Camera Positioning

I just guessed my distance from the subject. but when I do my actual video ill be more precise by measuring with steps or tape. in this video you could only see from the waist up of my cousins body in the screen. I like to have full body showing head to toe, so that you can see more of the scenery in the background.

Costume

Something casual with gumboots. (popular footwear in NGA).
