This is happening in Argentina right now. Police beating up OLD PEOPLE who are simply asking for the basic income they are owed by their retirement funds. While all institutions look the other way, complicit and corrupt. A journalist was shot in the head.
We have the right to protest in Argentina.
EVERY WEDNESDAY retirees/pensioners have been gathering to protest in front of Congress.
EVERY WEDNESDAY the government launches an anti riot force to tear gass and violently repress people that are in their 70s, 80s, 90s.
THIS WEDNESDAY (MARCH 12, 2025) football fans joined the protests to give their support to the elders being abused by police forces every single week.
The government answered this by enforcing "special measures": FULL ON POLICE REPRESSION.
With full local news coverage, there are many videos of cops planting guns among protesters to justify their violent acts. There are many videos of cops hitting, pushing, and tear gassing elders.
With full local news coverage, cops shot at the head of a news photographer with a pressurized tear gas can, blowing the upper part of his skull open. Cops have caused this man to lose brain matter from the injury. He needed life saving surgery. The latest reports as of posting (March 13) say that, while the surgery was a success, he is not out of danger and he's in a very critical, very delicate state.
The government is now pushing forward punishment towards ALL football fans by limiting access to stadiums.
From the very start, our current government has tried to violate our right to protest by taking all possible measures to repress it and treat it as illegal. News coverage paints this as good and deserved.
This is in great part the fault of people without class consciousness AND without memory of what our history shows. We've gone through similar things during the 2001 crisis. There's nothing new under the sun.
Like we fought then, we have to fight now.

Hi! Okay. So.
Those who are kinda into my blog know about three things: I'm non-binary, I'm Argentinian, and I love my grandma
Well, let's talk about that!
Retired & senior citizens of Argentina are losing all their rights. They are not being payed enough, sometimes even being denied payment from the retirement they worked for their whole lives. So, there have been pacifist manifestations, mostly elders & their families.
Police reprimanded. There are videos of cops hitting elders, pointing at them with a FUCKING RIFLE, grabbing an old lady's cane and making her fall to the ground.
This could've been my grandma. She wasn't (my aunt can't take her there, and they're SCARED), but she could've
Living to get to be old isn't seen as something good anymore.
The right is doing this here, and it will do it everywhere. The right leans towards violence, towards black&brown people, towards immigrants, towards disabled people, towards queer people, towards poor people, towards elders.
The right is capitalism at its finest. You are born rich, or you will suffer your whole life just to die
I love my grandma, who doesn't understand a lot of stuff but she tries, and she always waits for me to visit. I love my step-grandpa, who is an ass sometimes but is one of the funniest people ever. I love my elderly neighbors, who have taken me to the hospital in San emergency, and the elder bus driver that drove my bus to uni today, the ladies at the shop close to home-
I love my community, and that involves queer people, black people, brown people, poor people, immigrants, and elders.
And if we aren't moved by love, and rage, and hurt. Then we are moved by nothing.
Today in Buenos Aires there was a protest for the betterment of retired people's rights (keep in mind they are all middle to low class). The government sent cops to repress this protest who shoved up in full riot gear to stand against... middle aged people and elders.
There are videos of cops punching, kicking and pushing to the ground elders. People with moving disabilities due to illnesses and age. There's a graphic video of an older woman getting pushed to the ground by a cop, hitting her head hard against the ground. A press photographer was attacked by cops causing a skull fracture and intense bleeding, as time of posting undergoing lifesaving surgery.
While this is happening, the president puts on a circus performance of going to Bahia Blanca, affected by lethal floods, to "oversee" the construction/repairs of a bridge, with protests from the public.
While this is happening, the president is currently getting away with promoting a ponzi scheme of international magnitude. This blatant promotion is unconstitutional and he should be impeached over it. Congress is looking the other way.
And this is far from the tip of the iceberg when it comes to things currently happening every single day in Argentina. But we carry on, and we persevere.

"How much is your memory worth? How much are your rights worth?"
Pasteup featuring the new Argentine President Javier Milei, seen in Buenos Aires, Argentina
If you want to know what's up in Argentina:
Argentina has, historically, the right to public FREE quality university for all citizens and residents on its soil. This is considered a right and, although the system has its faults, it's considered the pillar of Argentina's middle professional class and a tool for upward mobility.
Last week, against HEAVY popular citizen support for the national public university system, Congress decided to support Javier Milei's veto that halts the public university's funding to inoperative levels.
Although the goverment and other friendly politicians assure this is about keeping numbers balanced, the money the Argentinian goverment gives to the system is less than 0,14% of the GDP. This is ideological. This is about less rights.
The President has claimed in interviews before and after his presidency that he considers free university "a degeneracy" and useless, although the Argentinian public university system has been lauded internationally (with high global rankings of UBA, Universidad de Cordoba, UNLP and Nobel prizes for its graduates) and is considered one of the tools for the working class's social mobility and the creation of Argentina's professional middle class.
The response to these measures that directly goes against the people's wishes have been instant.
There are now massive university takeovers all over the country, including very conservative areas and faculties with a population that refrains from these measures and have indeed voted for Milei's Libertarian party. Argentinian's Student Movement is historic, relentless and goes back to the 1918 Reform. It has coordinated and birthed several historical moments country-wise and was famously targeted by authoritarian regimes (like 1976's US-backed Military Dictatorship'a genocide and 1990s Neoliberalist Menem's policies).
The last two decades the movement has been disjointed, even fangless, but it seems Milei and the Congress's blatant corruption and disregard for what is considered a basic right has awakened a dormant beast.
Keep an eye on us, alright? Please.
"Protesters clashed with police in Buenos Aires as they tried to march around the Argentine Congress to demand higher pensions and against austerity measures implemented by President Javier Milei." AP.
Pig goes down. Pensioners are literally fighting police. A-C-A-B
i usually don't post this kind of stuff since it's personal but i'm so tired i just got home and i need to write this to get it off my chest FUCK javier milei. He's no president, he's a dictator, he's a zionist, he's a Donald Trump fanboy that was brought to power and he's a scammer
i was walking with my mum today, far from the protest area, when a bunch of cops came to threaten us and many others for simply walking down the street. these people get paid to beat up and arrest innocent people and they ENJOY IT. that is NOT how democracy works. a person was killed today in that protest under the excuse that "he was a leftist" (said by the security minister herself on live TV, isn't that sinister?). it's fcking devastating to watch my own country and tbh the whole world falling down the rabbit hole of fascism and authoritarianism, while calling it a "democracy". but it's even worse to see how people still continue to support this, believing in fake news and denying the military dictatorship of the 70's (and how close we are to reliving it). it's such a hate-filled society, to the point that many people say that these pensioners deserve it, that the people who were arrested today "must have done something". 3 students from my uni were arrested today, just for being there. but yeah, let's call it freedom just because the nasty, incestuous man we have for president says so ππ great

Reminder that Shelley Duvall denied that she was "traumatized " by working on The Shining several times, describing Kubrick as demanding but warm and friendly. It's depressing how people once attacked her for "bad" acting, and then when they started praising her, only did so by claiming it "wasn't really acting" and framing her as a victim. No, she was just acting, and it's weird how people dance around finding excuses instead of saying the truth: that her role in The Shining wasn't just good acting, but one of the greatest performances in horror history
winter season in buenos aires stresses me out bc what's the point of freezing to death if it doesn't even snow,,, i've been waiting since july 2007 and NOTHING HAPPENS.
