12 principles of animation
Leaning about the 12 principles of animation was extremely enlightening. Learning each principle and how they are used to maximize animation has improved considerations when trying to animating an organic scene, as well as which principle should be utilized over others in order to reflect the brand attributes. I have seen myself creating the initial animation, then asking myself how can I apply some of the principle to enhance the motion being created. The principles of timing, exaggeration, anticipation, appeal, and slow in and slow out, have been some of the important principles I have been attracted to the most. I have also looked at the program After Effects differently now. After learning the 12 principles, I have realized how the program has been engineered based around these principles. It is only a tool that is great for the execution of these principles. If there is not an understanding of these principles, the user is limited in just creating motion, and not creating life within those motions.
15-30-60sec video commercial
The 15-30-60sec video commercial concept was a great learning experience. Understanding of the three memory banks of the human mind will prove to be extremely beneficial. Especially when doing the 15 sec commercial. Focusing on creating a series of commercial that only utilizes one of the three memory banks for each can, in my opinion, be more beneficial than a single 30-60 second commercial. It will be short, fresh, and still trigger fireworks in the imagination of the viewer. We are also in an instant gratification society that only will have a shorter attention span in the future. So I will create stories based on the 30-60sec rule but also learn how I can split them into 15sec segments as well.Â
Considerations when creating mood board
During this course I have discovered additional consideration that must be thought of when creating a mood board. My mistake in creating the mood board, especially in the selected choice, is that I was only thinking about static movement. This included web, print, photography ect. I did not think of video. In the previous course, my professor addressed not all the elements may be scene in all the media and that some may only be utilized in other projects. Fortunately, I utilized some of the elements (pattern) and terms (Bold) that were in the mood board, but I believe those elements should be more prevalent when looking at the mood board. The patterns can only be scene in the small triangles, and the term bold is not to refer to font weight, but to reflect the idea of the term. Which is an ability to take risks; confident and courageous; or having a strong appearance. The video created reflect these elements, but the mood board should expose these concepts more. The images on the mood board work well in static images but in video it didnât work well. The deep red throughout the video made it look too dark, like a horror movie. By having a mix of the red overlay images as well as regular shot images, that keeps the brand essence, would enhance the mood board by having an addition option in case some do not execute well for the media being used. Â
My plan to continue to strengthen my understanding on story telling will be by reading a book, recommended by professor Baldowski titled, Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting. I recall him stating that, âeverybody who wanted to create stories should have this book in their libraryâ. It has already been purchased and I am looking forward to the information that will be absorbed from it.
