Though denim has always tugged on my heart strings with its universal appeal despite culture / gender / class (and its tendency to record our habits and histories), more recently it has been the process of deconstructing and breaking down a pair of jeans, quite literally ripping them apart at the seams, that has become my focus. The feeling of starting all over with all these scraps from the past is really quite liberating, and somehow feels very relevant to me. This most recent bounty is from the babes at @st.lightning ... p.s I happily accept donations of vintage Levi's, Wranglers, or Lee's! Trade possible 🤗

Found this motivational poster, "Working Together" on the streets of Brooklyn last week, tossed out even before election results were in. I'm shocked to say this but, I guess we underestimated the power of the people. This isn't some rigged election where the system votes against the people, votes counted wrong. It is my belief (and, maybe, deepest wishes) that the popular vote did not vote for racism, for sexism, for corruption, or for extremist right philosophy. They voted, simply, for their voice to be heard. To assume they simply want things to be like they were in the past, to assume they are all racists or sexists, I worry is to miss the point (and a chance at compromise or actual progress) entirely. I believe too that their were many who did not support Trump's ideologies but were so frightened by Clinton bringing us the same old song and dance for another four years that they felt they had no choice. So what are we (myself included) learning? Pay attention. Not just to your favorite news source, but to real activities in your local communities. Are there local town hall meetings for new developments in your area where you would like your voice heard? Can you get to know where your local congress stands on issues and be sure they know where you, a citizen they represent, stand as well? As I relocate to a non-metropolitan area for the first time in over a decade, I feel the results of the election are simply a reminder of why it is my civic duty to stay involved in local politics to do what I can to help prevent discontent rising to such disastrous results. This isn't just about fighting for our own opinions to be the majority, but listening on both sides to see where we can find compromise and understanding on a local level that so we can do a small part in sparing ourselves of this sort of shock on a national level in the future. Let's continue to build bridges and not walls in whatever capacity we can.
