It is our nature to seek our identity in the praise of others and in the praise of self. But the praise doesn’t last, and we are never satisfied. God has provided, through Jesus’ death, a new identity to all who know him. This new identity is built on Jesus’ performance rather than on our own; we receive the praise that He deserved. The more we know God, the more our new identity is strengthened and our old identity dies away. * Duration 42:37, Published 2/2/10 1:36:01 PM * Episode Download Link: Show Notes: http://sermons.redeemer.com * Podcast Feed: Timothy Keller Podcast (http://sermons2.redeemer.com/sites/sermons2.redeemer.com/files/RSS_Feeds/Timothy_Keller_Podcasts.xml)
Dr. Glenn Peoples challenges the traditional dualistic understanding of man, and the nature of death and the resurrection based on the argument made by Paul in 1Cor. 15.

Man of Steel
Secularism in a naturalistic world gives us no solid basis for human equality. That requires a religious, specifically theistic view.

This sounds like me when I'm trying to act like I was really listening.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Bible.com/app To hunger for something is to acknowledge that you don't have it. To hunger for what you already have is to admit that you have not enough of it to satisfy, or there is some kind pathology present. Many in America seem to think that good deeds accumulate in our account, and that these will be put on the scale in the end, weighed against our failures. But can this sort of accounting be squared with the idea Jesus is promoting? Isn't he talking about a foreign righteousness? The hunger for it means it's external to us. How then do we acquire it?
If all consciousness is subject to essential laws in a manner similar to that in which spatial reality is subject to mathematical laws, then these essential laws will be of most fertile significance in investigating facts of the conscious life of human and brute animals.
Edmund Husserl (via philosophy-quotes)
Can unconscious laws of nature create consciousness?

I like to listen to podcasts, and finding a good podcast app has been a challenge. Since I like to listen to Philosophy pods it can be difficult to find some of them out there in the ether. I have that BeyondPod has a good engine for locating what I am seeking. That is my recommendation for a podcast app. Now I want to mention a couple of podcasts.Â
First: #Right Reason: Glenn Peoples puts together an entertaining and enlightening program out of New Zealand (love the accent). He has some great episodes on a Divine Command Theory of Ethics, and also some popular discussions on Dualism (a physical anthropology). It's been a few months since the program has been updated, but it will take a new listener some time to get through the 50 or so episodes. I personally have listened to the episodes on moral theory a good half-dozen times. There is much to digest.
Second: #Tim Keller of  Redeemer Presbyterian Church is an outstanding teacher. He teacher to a congregation in New York City that is educated and attracts some skeptics. He often addresses skeptical concerns, and does not pull up short in teaching the difficult parts. He seems well acquainted with great literature and philosophy, and he's not afraid to use it. I can't give a more enthusiastic recommendation.
Enjoy!

Indian ‘court’ orders gang rape of woman

What kind of theory of justice must you have to do this?
What is it that makes a person great, admired by creation, well pleasing in the eyes of God? What is it that makes a person strong, stronger than the whole world; what is it that makes him weak, weaker than a child? What is it that makes a person unwavering, unwavering as a rock; what is it that makes him soft, softer than wax? — It is love! What is it that is older than everything? It is love. What is it that outlives everything? It is love. What is it that cannot be taken but itself takes all? It is love. What is it that cannot be given but itself gives all? It is love. What is it that perseveres when everything falls away? It is love. What is it that comforts when all comfort fails? It is love. What is it that endures when everything is changed? It is love. What is it that remains when the imperfect is abolished? It is love.
