I got tired of online I/P discourse long ago, but the one thing that still hurts me is how it affects music. This stupid fucking โNo Music For Genocideโ campaign gets on my nerves. Itโs just a way for artists to feel like theyโre doing something important without doing anything actually important, which requires actual effort, money and self-sacrifice. Because I refuse to believe they think Bibi will get the IDF out of Gaza and sign a peace agreement because he canโt listen to the new Of Monsters and Men record (their pre-2025 music is still available in Israel). So many artists I wanted to check out at some point - my bloody valentine, IDLES, Hot Chip, Bjรถrk, Geese, Black Country, New Road (especially them, theyโre the hot new chamber pop band and I love that genre!) - but now I donโt want to listen to them even though I still can, because they clearly donโt want me as a listener.
And then the other side is concerts. I love concerts, but I only discovered that after all the actually interesting artists stopped coming here. It seems like for the next decade - aka my twenties - I wonโt be able to see anybody I want to, and my only options will be local Israeli artists, whose shows range from boring to insulting. All that because I was born in a specific place nobody likes. Well, at least Smash Mouth came. That was nice.
