however the biggest showcase of her character is in parappa 2, parappa very clearly dismisses her hard work, her cooking, and runs away when she lightly insults him. we see later that she actually just wants someone to understand her. she hides parts of herself that she thinks people won't like, and then suddenly parappa starts disrespecting her, AND EVEN THEN she still has hope he'll understand her. it's why she only called him a baby, she can't bring herself to say anything mean because she thinks she just has to be nice. they make up in the ending, because she still thinks she has something to apologize for. the secret come a long way amv is a much better ending, with parappa openly showing she accepts her flaws too. they work because they both support each other and help them with their flaws.

she has so much personality and depth beyond being parappa's love interest, to the point where she has her own small character arc in the background of parappa 2. unfortunately you only see it in a small cutscene, but still, why is this so ignored? remember people used to fucking hate her for just calling parappa a baby one time. she would get gore comics and videos depicting her as a villain all because of one tiny insult. the fandom has improved on this a TINY bit, but we're STILL saying she's just basic. Give her a break what the fuck did she do to you and this happens EVERYWHERE, not just with sunny. All kinds of female characters are hated if they dare insult the male protagonist. It's why the fanon version of Lammy is so different, she's changed to be a rocker babe instead of who she is. if she actually had the chance to grow as a character, say letting all of her personality shine, would you still call her basic? Or would you say she's something completely different

It's okay to acknowledge that the original games do not hold up that well in terms of misogyny. They did as much as they could, but you do not need to excuse the fact that they barely show sunny's character growth at all. You also need to stop thinking that every female character that happens to be in a relationship is just "a basic love interest."
