Killing—taking a life—is very clearly presented as the ultimate evil in the Harry Potter series. Taking a life splits your soul, it damages you at the deepest level.

All the characters are flawed. They all have weakness and occasionally make morally grey choices. Harry uses two of the Unforgivable curses: Imperio and Crucio. He does not use the third, not even during his final duel with Voldemort. He uses Expelliarmus, and it's only due to Voldemort's Killing Curse ricocheting backwards that Voldemort is killed rather than captured and imprisoned. Harry will not cross that final line.

This is a clear message broadcast by the series: killing is wrong.

Dumbledore is J K Rowling's favourite character aside from Harry. He's the Godlike presence hanging over the wizarding world, he's its moral centre.

Dumbledore never kills in the Harry Potter series. He's fiercely judgemental and absolutely believes that wrong-doing merits punishment (that evil-doers bring their own doom on themselves via their bad choices), but he does not kill. He loathes the Dementors and is furious when Fudge allows them to take Barty Crouch Junior.

SO:

and what are all his riches good for if not treating himself and his new, first ever friend to every kind of sweet on the trolley?

third year, he ponders the wisdom of splashing out on a firebolt and solid gold gobstones, but very admirably chooses to be a responsible spender

harry spots shiny gleaming metal, and he makes a beeline for it. then he proceeds to shell out thirty galleons without blinking an eye because niffler he may be, he also has a heart of gold

Peeves on the other hand is a Poltergeist, a being similiar to ghost but not one himself. Poltergeists were never alive, and are a beings on its own. They are solid enough to be able to move some objects ( like peeves writing swear words with chalk or throwing water balloons at the students ) and also solid enough to be affected by some spells and jinxes.

Another thing is that Hogwarts consists mainly of very old ghosts, and not all of them get along well, Moaning Martyle and the Grey Lady are pretty lonely.

Fred wouldn’t have many ghosts to really get along with, he’d mainly have the students to chat with ( like Nick ) and maybe Peeves but it wouldn’t be a real connection. And I can’t imagine George being able to continue life and have a family with Fred’s imprint still hanging around.

Unfortunately while the general idea of this headcanon is super cute, actually getting into essence of what it means to become a ghosts is not such a pretty picture.

She made reading a trend. One day everyone was collecting Pogs or Beanie Babies, the next, we were all deciding whether we were more like Harry or Ron, Hermione or Lavendar. For the first time, everyone seemed to have read the same books and had things to say about them. Though reading could be a solitary activity still, it didn’t need to be.

She made Y.A. literature a cultural event on the level of boy bands and “Titanic.” Your friends all wanted to go to the Harry Potter midnight release parties with you, argue over the most crushable characters with you, and dress up as your favorites for Halloween.

She made reading something to be anticipated. Speaking of those midnight release parties: How about that anticipation-building? When did it become normal for kids to insist on staying up past their bedtime… to start the next book in their favorite series? By creating such a hot literary commodity with seven painfully spaced installments building toward an agonizingly mysterious conclusion, Rowling imbued reading with excitement and anticipation for kids everywhere.

She created a literary world that felt close enough to touch, but supernatural enough to thrill. In her deft blend of traditional fantasy elements and traditional British boarding school stories, she offers the perfect, intoxicating balance of familiarity and fantasy, comfort and thrill. You didn’t just want to read about Hogwarts; you really, really wanted to be there.

She made us believe magic could happen to us. Harry Potter was a regular kid, and not a particularly happy one, when an owl arrived with his Hogwarts acceptance letter and he found out he wasn’t a regular kid at all. How many of us secretly felt a pang as our 11th birthday passed without that letter? We knew it wasn’t real (probably), but Rowling made it feel so, so real.

She knew that words were the real magic, and she got us to feel that way too. Like some other incredible children’s book authors (Lemony Snicket immediately springs to mind), Rowling thinks words are fun, and it’s infectious. The clever wordplay hidden within her name choices, spell incantations, and general terminology ensures kids are learning some amount of linguistic history, if only by osmosis – and for some of us, it helped spark a lifelong fascination with language and meaning.
