i want to double down on darkrai for competitive reasons which is: darkrai has the signature move dark void, which was a spread sleep move with 80% accuracy. which is Really Really good in doubles formats for obvious reasons. however, darkrai has never been legal in official competitive formats, which is where this gets interesting. Basically, because smeargle can effectively learn Every Move, doubles players taught it dark void. it became such a problem that gamefreak actually stepped in and 1. nerfed the move to 50% accuracy, which immediately made it totally dogshit and 2. stopped allowing smeargle to learn it entirely. So. darkrai was punished outright for the actions of a completely separate pokemon

I will say it is very strange seeing people bring out "queen was actually really nicies" stuff now that we have temporal distance from when we all played chapter 2. because like. no? no she wasn't? I love queen but no she absolutely was not. she is a metaphorical stand in for noelle's abusive mother (albeit, a much more sympathetic, charming, and softer stand in) and like. you extremely can tell this. she was not doing "what she thought noelle wanted", she was doing what she thought was best for noelle. these are two different things!!! this distinction is incredibly important, because the latter is the thought process of the vast majority of abusive parents. she is constantly coercing noelle, at one point threatening berdly's life in order to manipulate her. I understand having a reflexive backlash against misogyny towards the women in this game (and a very similar sentiment of over-defending toriel also exists in this community for the same reason) but like. you don't gotta make stuff up
