It does come from a lowk sad place tbh.
I mean, it’s basically because Citlali finally has someone that she isn’t guaranteed to lose, or particularly outlive.
Yes, Citlali is letting herself make new connections, willing to properly let people in. But theres still the underlying knowledge that has haunted her for most of her life: “I am going to outlive you.”
It may seem otherwise, but people with long life spans, they ARE incredibly rare in teyvat. We just have been overly exposed to them - BECAUSE of how rare they are. The rarity makes them more fascinating, makes them more plot-important beings.
Like yes, i can list out a large number of immortal type characters. But those characters are very rare in number. Traveler only knows so many because of who they themself are.
In Natlan alone, there is ONE character beyond Citlali, who is ‘immortal’. Which is Mavuika.
And Mavuika will still eventually give up the archonhood (possibly. Can that be done without the gnosis?? This isnt important rn but thats in my mind now.)
Citlali has known the fact for years, decades. Its what made her into who she was, before Traveler came stumbling in.
For the first time, she’s confronted with someone who is not only immortal. But immortal in the way that they are more likely to outlive her than the other way around.
Of course Citlali is clingy. Of course she gets jealous. She’s anxious. She knows she is very very unlikely to lose the Traveler to death, she doesnt want to lose them to anything else. Including other people.
Citlali is also pretty self-aware of her jealousy/clinginess lol. And pretty restrained. We just, get her internal monologue. So we see that her demeanor is hiding alot lol.
Like i mean, its alot, sure. Citlali is down bad for the Traveler, more than anyone else who is given fanservice. And it can.. totally be a little much at times.
But at the same time, its a gacha game.. and its surprising it took this long for a character to be genuinely fucking down bad for the mc tbh. The way they wrote it, it does make plenty of sense.
Basically think of it like this. Citlali is a person, surrounded by cats or dogs, with no other people arojnd for a long time. She can care for them, love them, bond with them. But theres a fundamental difference, and the knowledge of that is painful. And then the Traveler is the first person she meets in a long long time. Obviously, she’s going to get attached and aggressively.
Related to this, Sandrone’s reaction whenever Citlali let her jealousy slip through was so funny.
ALSO?? I keep saying people saying Traveler was uncomfy with Citlali in the event??
Which is.. a blatant misunderstanding of not only their dynamic, but also the Traveler.
Most of the scenes ive seen people cite as them being uncomfortable.. are the moments where Traveler is basically putting their hands up in surrender.. following them teasing Citlali.
Traveler likes Citlali. Traveler also likes riling her up. They are aware that Citlali is going to crash out a little in response. They find it cute.
Like their response to the scene where Citlali drags them off to go drink for the rest of the day wasnt discomfort. It was surprise at the sudden demand, at her level of insistence about it.
If Traveler was uncomfortable with that all.. they wouldnt have indulged her at the Hotel. Nor would they keep purposefully riling her up - particularly by way of calling her things like cute via their telepathic proximity chat.
i still love that btw. Traveler and her just straight up have proximity chat, its been like almost two years in canon since then (since that occurred in early natlan) and its just, a thing now. Citlali keeps forgetting too, its always fun.
