Idk, made some stays and a chemise and felt cute Hopefully gonna make more ren faire gear soon ✨
If you aren't cosplaying your toxic middle school OTP with your fiance what are you doing, am I right?

Arcane Jinx Progress thread
I started work on this months ago, so I'll briefly catch up what I've been working on then try to remember to post here when I have updates. I'm aiming to finish this for Dragoncon, so I have 47 days (46 technically since we fly out). AHHH
Current status Wig: Done (needs some fixes in the future, but good for now) Top: Done (again, small future fixes, but wearable) Gloves: In progress, like 50% done Tattoos: 0% Belt: 0% Pants: Done (yet again, small future fixes, but wearable) Bandage: 0% Boots: 5% (materials purchased, 3d-printed parts printed)
My friend helped me make the top pattern by wrapping me in plastic wrap and duct tape. After tracing that to paper and making a quick mockup, I sewed the top from a lovely stretch pleather.
I need to make the straps a lil longer in the future to get rid of that bunching at the neck, but otherwise I like it!
I painted the rings with rub n buff, though you can't see them much lol
I don't have any pics, but I also used some grey suede wrapped around some eva foam to make the little grey X on the back of the top.
The grommets were 3d printed by my lovely fiance, and the models were purchased from amari cosplay on etsy! I painted them with some rub n buff and some acrylics, then stitched some circles onto the top where I wanted them to go. Then I cut out the centers of those circles and glued the grommets on top, so the stitches were hidden, but the two layers of the top were nicely secured together.
The straps between the grommets are just muslin that I airbrushed some shading onto; I want to redo them eventually because I made them far too orange, but oh well! Low priority.
I didn't really take pics of the belt (tee hee) but it's just eva foam covered in dark brown pleather, then top stitched around the edges. The buckle and arrow at the end were again printed by my fiance and the models are from amari cosplay on etsy. They were sanded then painted with rub n buff and acrylics.
The top straps are a thin strip of pleather that I sewed together at certain points and attaches to the top and itself at others with snaps. No pics bc I'm silly :^)
For the wig, I started with a Nemesis from Epic Cosplay Wigs in Teal Blue Mix with two packs of matching wefts.
I plucked out some hairs from the widow's peak and added some more to it and the sideburns. Then lots, and lots, and lots of crimping.
Wig get thicc
Then I sectioned off some hair for the bangs, divided it into two portions, and French braided each portion. I cannot French braid to save my life, but I tried.
To lengthen the wig, I first crimped the wefts, then wrapped them around a coupling nut. Then I braided them.
I nestled the screw into the braid, and could now screw the braid extensions to the base wig. These connection points will be covered by the bullet casings. This means I can disassemble the wig for travel, as well as making rebraiding easier if something goes wrong. And it meant I didn't have to find a lacefront in the length and color I wanted, haha
I forgot to take pics of doing the bangs and sideburns, so,,, oops
Then the accessories! Again, printed by my fiance and models from amari cosplay on etsy. Primed, painted with a flat black, then painted with a variety of rub n buff and acrylics. I cannot paint to save my life, but I tried.
Then I just kinda,,, wedged them onto the wig. Some parts fit snuggly, and some needed some eva foam glued inside to add a bit of padding, but they stay on pretty well (at least in tests; we'll see how the con goes). Def needs some touching up (I wanna add more hair to the bangs, touch up the paint on some of the bullet casings, and some other lil things) but!! It's ok for a first run.
I used Butterick B6911 - view A as a base for the pattern for the pants; I removed the back yoke, the pockets, brought down the waist, and just generally fitted them to my body.
After a mockup, I cut out the fabric (cotton sateen) and began the dye tests for the base fabric, using a mix of Plum and Truffle Brown Dharma Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes (my fav dye ever).
It took,,, so many tests, but eventually I got a color I liked! Then I drew the lines I wanted on my mockup pants, cut them apart, and transferred that to freezer paper. I cut out the stencil for the purple lines (keeping the paper I cut out!) and ironed the stencil onto the fabric.
Then I airbrushed a mix of Burnt Umber and Violet Jacquard Textile Colors (I think; I might have mixed in some other colors as well haha) over the stencil; it took a few layers, but the final coat came out nicely! And the fabric is still smooth and flexible. Nice!
Then I widened the opening on the lines of the stencils and ironed them on, as well as the reserved parts for the purple lines that I cut out earlier, which cover the purple lines on the fabric.
The tan was, I believe, a mix of Raw Umber, Neutral Grey, Terre Verte, and White.
Then I sewed the pants together following the pattern! No pics bc silly but it was p straight forward.
Then back to dye tests! So! Many! Dye tests! And on microsuede, so I had to use polyester dye. But I got through like half of The Magnus Archives while doing it and added all my digital patterns to my tagged documentation system so at least the time was productive haha
I used a mix of Graphite and Sandstone Rit Dyemore for the light tan; Sandstone, Chocolate, and Black for the dark tan; and Super Pink, Royal Purple, and Sandstone for the purple. Trying to match the purple to the purple of the pants was a pain, but I think it went ok?
Then I mocked up patterns for the pants accessories (idk what else to call them. weird... flaps??) and airbrushed the lines onto the light tan. Same process as with the pants!
Then I just had to sew all the flaps together and add snaps to them and the pants so they can attach to each other while still allowing me to zip and and unzip the pants :')
After that, I just cut up the ends of the pants and sealed the cuts with Fray Check.
I did a little weathering on the tan flaps, but I'll go back and do the weathering for the entire costume in one big phase at the end to try and keep things cohesive. But yeah! Pants! Yay!
I'm currently working on the gloves, so not much to share about them. I modified the patterns sold by Kinpatsu Cosplay (as I interpreted the gloves a bit different than she did), then cut out the fabric. I used the same stretch pleather as the top for the base gloves, microsuede for the purple and grey bands on the left glove, and the same brown pleather as the top belt for the belts on the left glove.
I had already dyed the purple fabric when I dyed some for the pants flap, so I just had to dye the grey fabric. I used a mix of Sandstone, Graphite, and Chocolate.
Then I repeated the same freezer paper process to add stripes to the purple and grey parts.
I also sewed both base gloves, but I don't have pics. And that's where I am now! Gonna try to knock out the rest of the gloves asap (but my family is visiting this week, so I'll be busy), then onto the belt and the boots (and the bandage, if I have time)! Still lots to do, but I think??? I can do it in time?? Wish me luck ahHH
Not many pics, sorry ahhh I basically sewed the two grey pieces together into a tube, which I then handstitched to the base glove; I basically did the same thing with the purple fabric as well.
For the glove belts, I again modified the patterns from Kinpatsu Cosplay, cutting them out of EVA foam and brown pleather. I used spray adhesive to bond them together, folding over the edges of the pleather around the foam, then added some decorative topstitching.
The buckles (and knuckle details) are, like many other details, printed by my fiance using models from amari cosplay on etsy. I painted them matte black, then dry brushed on some rub n buff and acrylics.
For the right glove's.... wrist... band... thingy? I cut two rectangles out from 5mm EVA foam and glued them together to make one thick band, sanded over the long edges, and glued the short edges together to make a sort of ring. I sealed it with plastidip and squeeze it over my wrist and ta-dah!
No pics of the right glove, but here's the left one!
Boots! Like everything else, they still need to be weathered, and I need to pick up some chicago screws on Friday to attach the top flaps, but otherwise they're good to go!
I started with a cheap pair of boots I bought from ebay, then cut part of the tongue out from the right one. I used the measurements of the cut out portion to pattern a new one, though I extended it so it would be long enough to flop over. I cut that shape out from EVA foam and black pleather, then sewed the pleather into a lil sock for the foam, added the foam, then topstitched it together. Then I glued that in where the previous tongue was. Bazinga!
For the top flaps, I modified Kinpatsu Cosplay's pattern, but otherwise just followed the same process as the tongue, apart from leaving one end unglued on each boot so I can still zip them up. I'll use some chicago screws to close them, so I can easily undo them when I want to take the shoes off lol.
I (again) used her patterns for the metal pieces, cutting them out from various thicknesses of EVA foam. I used googley eyes and rivets for the round rivet details, sealed everything with plastidip, then dry brushed on some rub n buff and acrylics.
These were all glued onto the boots with IC-2000 Rubber-Toughened super glue, since it's more flexible, so hopefully they'll stay on ok!
Then I painted the soles of the shoes and the shoelace grommets with silver rub n buff.
Next, back to dyeing! Again! I used the same mix of Super Pink, Royal Purple, and Sandstone that I used for the glove and pant microsuede portions to dye some faux suede cording until I got a color I liked; I think it's pretty close to the pants color, like I wanted! :)
I used those to lace up the boots, tying the laces off in knots at the top, and glued some short strands on in small Xs on the sides.
Then it was down to the final part; the ... dangly bits?? Idk what to call them, haha
I modified Kinpatsu Cosplay's pattern to sew them; she interpreted them as one flap that wraps around the buckle at the end, though I interpreted it as a longer piece that attaches to the boot at both ends, with the buckle dangling from that. Basically, I just mirrored the pattern on its short end haha. Again, these were sewn from black pleather.
The buckles were (as always) printed by my fiance using models from amari cosplay on etsy. I gave them a quick sand, some primer, a coat of flat black spraypaint, then silver on the buckle portion and gold on the spike and top bar.
Then... ta-dah! Boots! The clips are there just to hold things in place until I pick up the chicago screws, so ignore them haha
I've started on the belt, but ran out of topstitching thread and my local store is out, so I'm gonna try to pick some up from a new place on Friday (I hope they have it!) and hopefully finish it this weekend. Then it's just the tattoos, the leg bandaid, and weathering everything! Ahhhhh!
Oh yeah I finished this costume at some point haha
It's not perfect and still needs a lot of tweaks, but I won two minor awards with it (a judge's choice at the Dragoncon Anime & Animation Costume contest and 3rd place in the Anime Los Angeles Hall Costume Contest) so I'm still jazzed about that 🎉 I may not be a great cosplayer, but I'm certainly A One of A Time
Ok so I found some friends willing to cosplay tmm with me so lettuce is getting a revamp!! she was not in my plans for the year but that's fine, i'll just suffer
I'm starting with remaking the necklace bc that's easy and I'm lazy I took apart my last version of the necklace and am using the cotton sateen to flatline the matte satin I'm using for this version's fashion fabric
I dyed the satin like two years ago, aiming for a slightly more apple green for re-turn lettuce, and kept it bc i knew i'd want to remake base lettuce one day bc she's my bab this is my third attempt, so witness my slow growth i guess???
anyway after flatlining the satin i added some anti-skid fabric to the back, which i'm using as a lining so the necklace stays in place on my neck. i sewed the side edges, pressed, serged, and flipped it right side out, then pressed again
then i basted all layers together, serged the top and bottom edges, and prepped the fur strips that i'm using as a pseudo bias-binding. the serging is wonky bc the anti-skid fabric made it go through poorly, but i don't care bc it'll be covered haha
hand stitched the fur edges shut but the rest was just sewn on like normal bias tape; i stitched in the ditch to catch the back of the fur, so no visible top stitching ✨ i may be in my top-stitching era, but that doesn't apply to lettuce anyway, it shuts with a snap and yippee! collar sewing done
Followed like 99% the same process to make the leg band Just gotta stitch it down to some pantyhose to keep it in place, tho hopefully the grippy fabric will help just in case (I literally dismantled my old leg band and reused the fabric as interlining and the fur trim lol) Next up, arm puffs!
Shockingly, I'm doing basically the same thing for the arm puffs Gonna add elastic to them before adding the fur, so the combo of that + grippy fabric will hopefully save me future annoyance lol
Anyway, almost done with these; will update once they're done, then onto the bottom, I think. Fighting with whether I want to try adding a twill layer and some boning or not. I feel like some spiral steel on the side seams and maybe two pieces of flat steel on the front might help keep the bottoms well shaped? But also is that overkill? Or will it add too much bulk? I should probably make up my mind before joann goes out of business completely. hmmm. I'll figure it out later, I guess.
