“Yeah, I mean it. He wasnt going to turn his back on them. Of course, talking to Benny beforehand might have been better, but Jack just assumes it will all be fine. “It will be fine,” he tells Gwen with a shrug. They may be shouting, screaming and been kicked out of their bedroom but she’d calm down eventually. Jack is deep in thought for a moment. “Tell you what if you answer my questions, perhaps we can skip the tests?”
—
Gwen didn’t look convinced, Benny definitely was not going to take it well. It did worry her for this child to go into that situation. But what was the alternative? They couldn’t just abandon the young girl and she knew Rhys probably would react the same as Benny. Loralei nibbled at her lip; it depended on what kind of questions he wanted to ask. She toyed with her bowl of ice cream, what could she possibly tell them that they either would understand or would be useful? “What do you want to know?” She asked quietly.Â
Jack liked to think he could talk Benny into anything But of course she was feisty and never held back, telling him how she felt.Â
“How did you get here? And where are you from?” Jack asks her. Those were the only important questions.
Loralei looked surprised, that was it? All these people wanted to know was how she got here and where from?
She couldn’t answer the first question because the truth was she didn’t know. All Loralei could remember was fire and screaming. She didn’t want to think about that. She thought she was certainly going to die before waking up here lost and confused.
“I don’t actually know how I got here. But I come from a planet called Gallifrey. It’s really quite far away from here.” Loralei replied thoughtfully scooping more ice cream into her mouth.
“Well, Jack wasn’t expecting that. “I’ve known people from there.” he chewed on his bottom lip, thoughtfully “Ever heard of the Doctor?”
Loralei looked somewhat confused by his statement, how could he know other people from her home? “I used to hear some people call my uncle by that name.” She admitted casually but didn’t think that it was likely the same person. Anyone could be a Doctor after all.Â
“I am going to ask you one more question.” And I really hope you say no, Jack thought to himself. “Your mother wouldn’t be called Nemo, would she?”
More questions. Loralei’s eyes widened confused at the sound of her mother’s name, she couldn’t even pretend that she didn’t recognize it. She could barely picture her mother’s face but the name was seared onto her memory. “Yes…it is. Did you know her?” She assumed her mother must have died in the war as she didn’t come back for her.Â
Jack wondered when Nemo even had time to have a child. So reasoned she must have taken a break out of her normal schedule of annoying him to have a child.
“I knew her yes, never knew she had a kid. “
“She got called to fight in the war, left me somewhere she thought I would be safe. But the daleks found us.” She replied quieter now - the Time War had been all Loralei had known. She had cried when her mother sent her to the safe house not understanding it was to protect her, she was a kid that just wanted her mother. Loralei thought she should have died along with everyone else, she didn’t understand how she ended up here.Â

“Oh that is very clever.” Loralei grinned but wasnt phased by the people that appeared though her gaze lingered a little longer at Jack. Her father called him the freak and although she recalled Jack being kind to her as a child it didn’t matter. She could see he was right.
It was clever get one of them to draw her attention she could never resist the ones with the big eyes, they looked even better when she made them cry.
“Oooh! What are you going to do tell my mum?” She laughed maniacally.
“The time for talking has passed. All that remains is to decide what we do with you now.” Jack certainly didn’t want Nemo coming back into his life She was a royal pain up the backside.Â
“Seems they had being too soft with you as a child. A good spanking is what they should have given ya” It was a bit strong but Alex could clearly see she had been given everything she wanted and she still turned out badly.Â
Loralei returned her gaze to Jack with a questioning look; what to do with her now? This was bound to be good. She was not worried by whatever they decided on, it wasn’t going to stop her. She knew Jack’s feelings about her mother, he wouldn’t believe her if she told him that her mother had changed. First Lady of Gallifrey, what a heart warming redemption arc…Loralei thought bitterly. She smirked at Alex edging closer to her not caring for what the rest of the team and Jack would do. Loralei extended a hand to brush Alex’s hair back from her face. “Maybe you’d like to instead. We could take turns. But I’m afraid I would not be gentle.” She really wanted to see those blue eyes cry.Â
“Loralei, stop playing around with them. You’re losing focus.” A voice spoke in her mind, The Master. Her father. Ruining her fun - of course they had a plan and this was all part of it although she was taking a bit of artistic licence to their plan.   Â
Alex shoved her hard. “Next time I will break your hand. And nobody but Jack gets to do anything with me.” She reaches briefly for Jack’s hand. “Anyone who wanted you would have to be pretty desperate would they not? “ she sneered at her as if the thought sickened her.
Jack laughed. He was forever reminded why it was never a good idea to get on Alex’s bad side. He simply cuffed Loralei. “Let’s see how you manage been in a tiny dark cell for 23 hours a day. for the rest of your life.Â
Loralei just seemed to enjoy the fact she had annoyed Alex, her grin merely extended from ear to ear. She had never had any complaints from people before at least until she got bored but that was less complaints and more screams. “Feisty, I like that. Makes it even more fun to make you behave.” She smirked. “Maybe I’ll finally get round to writing that novel I have been planning.” She gave a playful pout at Jack; the cuffs weren’t about to hold her but they didn’t need to know that just yet - this was all going according to plan. Though her father was definitely taking his time to show up…ugh this would be so much easier if she could have just killed them all! She thought to herself. But they had their own parts to play in this.Â
“There is another option. We could get Nemo to come to Earth and take her back to Gallifrey.” She spoke as if Loralei wasn’t there. Giving her no attention at all. “She will be off this planet and out of our hair. Let them deal with her.”
Jack stopped briefly to consider Alex’s suggestion. “ Surprisingly devious, Alex, But yes, that sounds like an excellent plan.”
Loralei listened, they were seriously going to call her mother? What was she a child?Â
“She’s not about to concern herself with what I am up to. Haven’t you heard?” She cackled, though she wasn’t one hundred percent certain that she wouldn’t come; Loralei had been actively avoiding her for a while now. Not because she was afraid of her…just because she would get in her way. “You might as well just lock me up.” She smirked.Â
Alex ignored her, as she caught the phone that Jack tossed at her before stepping away.
“Oh, don’t even tempt me Loralei. If it was my choice I would have you locked up so quickly your head would spin!” Jack warned her.Â
“Ooh and I once thought that you were the boss!” Loralei laughed, Alex clearly called the shots not him. And to think once she looked up to the freak. “Whatever you intend to do, it’s never going to work.” Â

“How did you get here? And where are you from?” Jack asks her. Those were the only important questions.
Loralei looked surprised, that was it? All these people wanted to know was how she got here and where from?
She couldn't answer the first question because the truth was she didn't know. All Loralei could remember was fire and screaming. She didn't want to think about that. She thought she was certainly going to die before waking up here lost and confused.
"I don't actually know how I got here. But I come from a planet called Gallifrey. It's really quite far away from here." Loralei replied thoughtfully scooping more ice cream into her mouth.
girloutoftime Benny knew she should deal with the school issue she needed to be challenged, but at the same time, she needed to be a  child and to develop friendships with kids her own age.“A long time ago,  we were friends but sometimes people just drift apart for whatever reason or simply lose touch. Anyway, I hadn’t realized you were that child she told me she’d lost. She thought you had died. “
——-
“I thought I had died before I woke up here.” Loralei murmured quickly, she didn’t speak of what had happened before Jack and Gwen found her. She didn’t like thinking about it - the war was terrifying for anyone, let alone a young child in place she didn’t know with no one else that she knew. Loralei edged closer to Benny, almost climbing into her lap. She didn’t hate Benny all the time.Â
“What is she like?” She asked Benny earnestly, for once just looking like a child with a piqued interest in something. Â
Benny and Jack had never asked, believing she would tell them in her own time if she wanted to. When Loralei edged closer to her it was one of the rare times when she wasn’t hating Benny. She puts an arm around her.Â
“When we were younger we were trouble, you could say Although she might tell you I was the one dragging her into trouble. She was very young back then. I think she’s been a little sad for all the years she thought you were gone. “
Loralei rested her head on Benny’s shoulder listening to the tales of her mother in awe. She had always wondered if her mother was even still alive let alone if she still thought about her. It was reassuring to her that her mother did think of her.It clearly had been longer for her mother than it had for her. “When can I meet her?”Â
This had been one of the few times that Loralei hadn’t been mouthing off at her. Benny knew what it was like to lose a parent at such a young age and how that longing never quite went away.
“How would you like to see if I can arrange it for tomorrow?”
Loralei’s eyes lit up in excitement, tomorrow seemed still far away but she did understand to a degree about patience. She was never any good at it though. She did wonder about the aftermath though, she had spent so long thinking of her mother; what if she didn’t live up to the memory? What would follow after the initial reunion. Would she go with her or stay with Benny and Jack? Loralei felt a wave of sadness rush over her from the unknown. “You will be there too right?” She confirmed.Â
—
The next day Loralei was more fidgety than normal, she didn’t want to eat her breakfast and looked as if she was about to bolt up from her seat at any moment. She was largely an independent child, insistent on doing everything for herself but today she had asked Benny to help her braid her hair because she was too nervous to be able to get the plaits even. Suddenly the door bell rang and Loralei found herself hiding behind Benny when the figure appeared by the door, only just tentatively peering round to catch a glimpse of her. The woman was relatively short with dyed blonde hair and big blue eyes, she attempted to peer round to get a glance at Loralei, her usual expressions being replaced with a much softer one. She couldn’t believe it and she found herself speechless. “I’m early. I think. Sorry.”Â
Benny was hoping that this would all go well, particular as she hadn’t told Jack about the meeting. She was quite happy to do Loralei’s hair. That was one thing she’d miss out on, having a son instead of a daughter she wouldn’t be able to do their hair in the same way you could with a little girl.
And then the doorbell went. Sensing how nervous Loralei’ was she suggested they all come to sit down. on the sofa. Her own son was wiggling on the playmat becoming only too curious for his own good, of the new arrival.Â
Nemo toyed with her jacket, her hands twitched with the urge to run to her child and embrace her but she couldn’t quite bring herself to. It had been years for her and the belief that her daughter was dead had begun to solidify on her hearts. Now she was standing before her, she was terrified of losing her once more even just to rejection. “Is Jack not home?” Nemo asked Benny as she sat on the sofa; knowing he definitely wouldn’t be happy for her to be sitting in his living room. Loralei sat swinging her legs that were too short to reach the ground on the sofa, she clung tightly to Benny but her gaze remained transfixed on Nemo. Slowly she jumped down until she stood in front of Nemo. She searched for the right words to say, settling on their shared native language. “Mama, is it really you?” Loralei whispered in Gallifreyan; she was too young to know for certain instinctively.Â

“Loralei, stop playing around with them. You’re losing focus.” A voice spoke in her mind, The Master. Her father. Ruining her fun - of course they had a plan and this was all part of it although she was taking a bit of artistic licence to their plan.   Â
“It’s been a while since I lost my temper, don’t make me do it again. I’m very good at it.” From Loralei. Any muse you want.
“Is that a threat.” Arcadia stared up at her her eyes widening. “Jack said any trouble from you I could throw you in a cell with a weevil!”
@childlostinspace
“If I were threatening you. You would know.” Loralei smirked folding her arms. She would like to see her try and throw her in a cell.Â
“And on the topic of threats I don’t think you’re in any position to threaten me.” Her gaze was steady and unsettling as she felt for the weapon that sat securely in her jacket pocket. Loralei was the definition of a spoiled brat. She did anything she wanted whenever she wanted. Her father had taught her everything he knew and she even had surpassed him. The apprentice becomes the master.Â
“Don’t you think it’s time you grew up? You are not a child anymore. The difference between us is that people actually like me and want me around. Who even wants you around? If you were to disappear today, nobody would even notice. “
Despite the rocky start Arcadia had in life and been held at Torchwood she had grown into a capable;e and adaptable Time Lady. Although that was thanks to Alex Hopkins and Jack Harkness.Â
“I wouldn’t even bother with your weapon. Your weapons won’t work in this place. Talk about lacking some common sense. Nothing like your mother are ya? At least she possessed a brain in her head, but you, you lack any actual; brain cells”
Loralei ignored the growing up comment, she didn’t care for others opinions anyway.
“It’s cute that you think that I care who likes having me around.” She smirked. Her father had taught her to do whatever she wanted when she wanted and Loralei took full advantage of that. Including selling him (well now her in her current body) to that guy Rafando for crimes they both had commited. She had pretended to be an innocent victim of manipulation and got off scott free to continue causing havoc in the universe. In her beloved fathers name. She hadn’t considered her weapons wouldnt work but it was no matter.
“My mother is a coward. Living a domestic life on Gallifrey with my half brother and her mate upholding the old ways after swearing that she despised them.”
Arcadia missed Nemo, but wasn’t her home here at the hub, with Jack She had the opportunity to go back home but she had chosen not to.
“What’s wrong with living a domestic life? You will never know anything about it. All you are is a shadow of your father. you are not even a real person You have no individuality, no real opinions of your own, no desires, dreams that are your own. Everything about you is fake. Like a clone or an Alien duplicate of another person. Oh, go get a life. I’m tired of listening to this bull shit.”
“I’m so much more than that. My father was not even half as capable as me. I am the perfect combination for chaos.” Loralei stepped closer to Arcadia seizing her arm tightly with a crazed look in her eyes. She knew that once she did this it would send Jack after her but that was part of the fun. She loved the chase. Loralei believed that renegade Gallifreyan’s created her from Nemo and The Master’s DNA to bring down the Time Lord’s if the Time War didn’t manage to finish them all off. Her father had declared himself Master of all but it was now her turn to take over that rule. Her journey would eventually take her back to Gallifrey but first she needed to take care of the stragglers. “No can do. You’re coming with me.” She smirkedÂ
Loralei 3 (Open)
Finding herself back on Earth was strange, she had spent a portion of her childhood here amongst these humans. She frowned at the thought, Loralei was forced to live like a human child. It was disgusting and dull. Loralei took in her surroundings planning her next move. Her father had rescued from that mundane existence, showed her how to truly have fun with the universe. Rules were optional for the young Time Lady. Oh how her mother was disappointed in her. She walked at a steady pace through the city’s narrow streets, everywhere was crowded, loud and chaotic. Exactly how she liked it. No one would pay too close attention to her right now, not until she wanted them to. Someone barged into her shoulder knocking her backwards slightly. “Oh sorry miss!” The young man excused, Loralei fiercely glared at him which took the man by surprise and quickly continued on his way. She watched him hurry away with an amused expression before continuing on her way. “Time to set this city on fire.” She muttered under her breath, now obviously excited.Â
It didn’t really take Alex all that long to find this girl She stuck out like a sore thumb and had been trailing her for an entire hour. This was Cardiff, her city. The city she would protect. The only one besides Jack that could make the tough decisions that needed to be made.
“Not so fast,” Alex grabbed her by the shoulder. “You are coming with me and we are going to have a nice long chat. “
Loralei couldn’t help but laugh at this woman that had decided to grab her shoulder, she looked her up and down incredulously. She was crazy if she thought Loralei was actually going to be intimidated by her.Â
“As tempting as that sounds. I’m very busy right now.” She smirked pulling herself free from the woman’s grasp. “Maybe some other time. Or you know..never.” Loralei shrugged lightly as she began to walk back off into the crowds. She suspected the woman would continue to follow her - oh how she did love a good game. She always won, even if she did often cheat.Â
Alex wasnt someone who could be brushed off so easily and given she was half Gallifreyan herself she could easily track the other. “Sorry, but that wasnt a suggestion You are coming with us!”
“Us? Who is us? I just see you here and I definitely don’t see how you can make me do anything.” She smirked folding her arms stubbornly. Loralei was beginning to get impatient with this woman in her way.
“It’s over, Loralei,” Jack answered, coming out of the shadows with a few members of his team.Â
Alex gestured to Jack. “He’s in charge. We’re Torchwood. And I wouldn’t bother trying to run. Jack is very good at what he does.”
"Oh that is very clever." Loralei grinned but wasnt phased by the people that appeared though her gaze lingered a little longer at Jack. Her father called him the freak and although she recalled Jack being kind to her as a child it didn't matter. She could see he was right.
It was clever get one of them to draw her attention she could never resist the ones with the big eyes, they looked even better when she made them cry.
"Oooh! What are you going to do tell my mum?" She laughed maniacally.

Loralei ignored the growing up comment, she didn't care for others opinions anyway.
"It's cute that you think that I care who likes having me around." She smirked. She hadn't considered her weapons wouldnt work but it was no matter.
"My mother is a coward. Living a domestic life on Gallifrey with my half brother and her mate upholding the old ways after swearing that she despised them."
