maggie would’ve been lying if she said she wasn’t concerned or freaking out but she was trying her damn hardest to not, for the sake of the kids, she loved kids but her thing was hearts so she was way out of her comfort zone here      ❛❛   we need a plan, i don’t know what to do.   ❜❜   

“ i’m fine.” amelia called out to the person that she had bumped into. “i was just on my way out. if i needed help, i would get some. i work at the practice nearby, dr. shepherd.” 

       ❛❛   yeah, you look really fine...   ❜❜    maggie raised an eyebrow at the other woman.         ❛❛   i’m dr pierce, maggie pierce and i’m just starting at the hospital as a cardio fellow.   ❜❜    

“I’m sure your day will be great. We are lucky to have you here and i’m sure everyone else will see it that way.” She encouraged the other. Charlotte was impressed with Dr. Pierce she’s extremely talented and she was wanted by a lot of hospitals. 

     ❛❛   lucky -- i think i’m the lucky one to be here.   ❜❜     maggie gave a weak smile, she was used to high praise but it still blindsided her occasionally, sometimes she didn’t realise she was as good as she is.

“First day or visiting someone you don’t like?” He asked. He had heard through others that there was a new cardio fellow starting today. “I’m Andrew DeLuca, I’m an intern here.” He said reaching out for her hand to shake.

      ❛❛   first day, is it really obvious?   ❜❜    she took his hand with a smile.        ❛❛   maggie pierce, cardio, it’s nice to meet you andrew.   ❜❜    

Lexie felt her jaw drop when this woman said Ellis was her biological mother.  Ellis had one child.  Meredith.  Meredith……had another sister.  Did Meredith know?  Meredith didn’t react well to surprise sisters, especially given her current situation.  “Oh my god…..” Lexie gasped.  It wasn’t really an appropriate reaction to the woman sharing all of this with her, but here it was…..more Grey family drama unfolding before her eyes.  

“Are you here for Meredith?” she asked.  Lexie held tightly to her cup of coffee not wanting to drop it.  She had to be here for Meredith.  She had to be.  Right?  “Thatcher was married to Ellis.  Before I was ever thought about…..” she explained.  

         maggie couldn’t help but laugh a little at the younger grey’s reaction, it was to be expected though.   ❛❛    i'm not sure, meredith doesn’t even know that i exist and i can’t imagine that after all this time she wants to know me at all. i can’t just walk into her life and expect everything to be okay, i’m not even sure i should tell her.     ❜❜   maggie had gone over the scenario in her head over and over again, she couldn’t even imagine if it was the other way around and meredith was the one to drop the bombshell on her.  ❛❛     all i know is, my mother is ellis grey and that’s crazy because she’s practically surgery royalty.     ❜❜

oh holy shit. holy shit. did she say ellis grey? she said ellis grey. “oh wow - “ her lips pressed into a small frown. “i’m really sorry for your loss.” andrea wasn’t completely sure how long ago ellis had passed away, but it was still sad. she was an icon in medicine and losing a parent in any way had to be hard. andrea then flashed her another smile, walking with maggie through the main doors of seattle grace. “so why’d you pick cardio?” they all had their reasons. but for someone like maggie pierce, the story had to be interesting. 

       ❛❛   it’s okay, i didn’t even know her, she gave me up for adoption and i have the most wonderful parents so her death didn’t really affect me too much, but i figure i have a sister and she works here.     ❜❜    meredith -- maggie’s breath caught in her throat, how was she going to walk in and blindside this other woman by telling her that her dead mother had another kid and it was her. ❛❛   i guess it’s just the speciality that i fell in love with the most, it’s just -- wow, i can’t even think of anything better.   ❜❜    she smiled and took a deep breath, she really did love her job. 

The natural assumption that always came with Grey.  Ellis.  Lexie wouldn’t lie, it had perks that she had at times taken advantage of, but this woman seemed far too nice to do that with.  Her face was kind.  “Ellis was a Grey by marriage,” Lexie stated unsure of why the other woman was asking.  “So no, I didn’t get any of my surgical talent and know how from Ellis Grey.  Thatcher has none of it.  So kind of just a surgeon on my own accord.”  She took a long sip of coffee staring at the other woman.  

          maggie was almost disappointed that this other woman wasn’t her sister, she was so nice.    ❛❛   so thatcher’s your dad and ellis was -- married to him?     ❜❜ maggie was now more curious than ever, she really didn’t know a lot about her biological mother at all. ❛❛   ellis is my mother -- my biological mother. she put me up for adoption when i was born and -- i’m rambling and you don’t even know me.   ❜❜ she steadied herself for a moment, she was always talking too much at the wrong time, 

“she’s here right now?” the drama of it all. andrea linked their arms together, turning to maggie to flash her a quick and reassuring smile. “come on, maggie. lets do it together.” if they were together, she could also show her around the hospital. there hadn’t been someone to show her the in’s and outs (like where the coffee was) so andrea hoped she could do that for her. 

        ❛❛   was here, she died quite some time ago. her name was ellis grey.     ❜❜ maggie didn’t know where this new found trust for the other woman had come from, she wasn’t actually planning on mentioning it at all, but from her research, ellis grey was an icon around seattle. ❛❛   together, right — i’m ready.   ❜❜ she gave a grateful smile and readied herself with a steady breath.

“Oh don’t tell me that, I control your schedule, you do not want the person who controls your schedule to know that you’re free all the time,” Teddy teased, sure that Maggie would soon find ways to fill up her time. She’d had Owen to introduce her to everybody, but from what she’d seen you didn’t exactly need a gatekeeper for most people here to latch on. “Oh not as forward as I am to working with you. You’re reference were impressive. I can only think of a handful of residents I’ve ever seen that would deserve those recommendations.” And one of them was Cristina Yang, who was pretty much the most impressive resident Teddy had ever seen.

        maggie was glowing at the praise from her boss, at this rate she wouldn’t be able to get through anymore doors because her head was going to be too big. ❛❛   i — wow, thanks. high praise from someone like you.   ❜❜    maggie was being a bit of a kiss ass but she didn’t care. her boss was clearly impressed by her and she appreciated that, it was nice to come somewhere and actually be valued.

“Well that’s why they made me head of the department, I’m the best at tricking fellows into starting their job,” Teddy laughed along with her, pushing open the hospital doors. “I hope you gave yourself a couple of days to settle in, I’m afraid that we’ve been pretty busy so you’re next full day off might be a while away.” She’d still yet to see all the sights she’d promised herself she would…although there were also still parts of New York she’d never seen.

        ❛❛   i have all the time in the world.   ❜❜    maggie had no friends, especially not here, she had barely had time to meet anyone, she’d been doing her research on the hospital and the people here.         ❛❛   i’m looking forward to working with you, dr. altman. it’s certainly going to be a wild ride.   ❜❜

“Margaret, you’re about to hold people’s hearts in you hands. Literal beating heart - well in some cases they’re not beating but kind of your job to get them beating again. There’s no time to care about anything else when you’re in these four walls.” That wasn’t strictly true, there were lots of other things that Teddy worried about when she was supposedly focused only on her patients, but Maggie would discover the constant drama in this hospital herself. She had to after all. “Come on, I have some paperwork for you to sign and then I’ll give you the tour. I blocked out a couple of hours to help you get acquainted.” And with that she started off back towards the hospital, leaving her fellow little choice to follow her.

         teddy was absolutely right, once she started she would have absolutely no choice but to focus on nothing but her work. maggie watched as teddy started to walk away and gave a small sigh   ❛❛   i see what you’ve done here.   ❜❜    maggie laughed as she followed her boss. the time was here, she was about to step foot in the hospital that her late biological mother worked in.

Charlotte had been on her way to grab coffee at the cart outside. She had looked down at her phone momentarily when she bumped into someone. She was expecting a resident or intern and was about to yell at them. She noticed it was Maggie and smiled. “Oh, don’t worry about it. Glad to see you again Dr. Pierce.”

       ❛❛   oh, hey dr. king, it’s good to see a familiar face.   ❜❜    maggie smiled at the woman that she’d previously met when she interviewed. she sighed a little and readied herself to start her day.         ❛❛   i hope the rest of my day goes better than this.  ❜❜     

“Nervous?” Teddy questioned, an easy smile on her lips as she attempted to reassure the new surgeon, “Dr Pierce, do you know how many candidates there were for this position? Over a hundred, which I dwindled down to fifteen who I personally interviewed before choosing you. I choose you because you were the best candidate - and not by a little, by miles.” She hoped she wasn’t scaring Maggie more, but she did have faith that the woman would significantly lighten their load. “This job isn’t easy, but I have faith that you’ve got it.”

       ❛❛   oh, i have no doubt that i’ll be amazing, i just -- never mind, you don’t want to hear that.   ❜❜    she wasn’t sure right now who she could trust with her secret, so for now she wasn’t going to say anything to anyone she was relieved to hear that she’d been the best candidate for the job though, she always struggled with being looked over because of her age.         ❛❛   i’ll be okay once i get in there and come face to face with stuff.  ❜❜     

Teddy was ready for the new cardio fellow to arrive yesterday. Between herself, Andrea and Cristina (considering that the resident was almost permanently on her service) she would argue that they had the most competent team in the hospital, but even they weren’t enough to cover the amount of traumas that came through the ER and the patients who actively sought out the cardio department at one of the top hospitals in the country. She had been on her way outside for a fresh of breath air when she’d suddenly collided with something that she realised was a someone seconds later. “Sorry, I should have been paying better attention,” She was busy helping the other woman gather up the papers that had slipped out between them, when she realised that she recognised her from her interview, “Margaret! You’re here!” 

        ❛❛   no, no it was me totally not paying any attention.   ❜❜    maggie smiled at the woman that she instantly recognised, it was nice to see a friendly face when she was struggling.         ❛❛   i’m here and i’m -- i’m kind of nervous as hell. i can’t even walk in the door, it’s silly really.  ❜❜     she tried to curb her frown and gave a small smile.
