One thing that struck me was that Lizzie didn’t speak up when Bravat said that our!Ciel had been Sirius all along. In fact, the only thing she says in the entire chapter was was she said in the previous chapter, and that was our!Ciel was the one lying.

When Bravat called our!Ciel Sirius, she is simply looking down, as if not wanting to look at anyone in particular. She’s not making eye contact. She’s just standing there.

In fact, Lizzie doesn’t even answer her brother when asked a direct question. Instead, real!Ciel answers for her.

If the consider the part about her saying that our!Ciel as being the one who lies as simply being a recap of the previous chapter, than Lizzie doesn’t actually say an entire word during all this. Her only actions was to take real!Ciel’s hands and then to stand there quietly through all that was happening.

I think this goes back to Lizzie’s state of mind. The Blue Sect and real!Ciel have done quite a number on her. First, they revealed to her that she had been lied to for the past three years by someone she cares about. This would be a shattering, and she would be vulnerable, but she didn’t go back to her family. If Lizzie had gone home, she would have had a support system, but she was isolated by staying with the cult. She only had Paula, who was too worried about Lizzie’s happiness to seemingly do that much good, and real!Ciel. This leads to one very big question.

What lies has she been told?

Real!Ciel seemingly has a talent for weaving the truth and lies so as to give he lies more validity. After all, he’s telling the truth that he is the real Ciel Phantomhive, and was incapacitated until recently. These are truths, but he used that to set up the lie that our!Ciel was Sirius and the one working with Bravat. While they were alone, real!Ciel could have told Lizzie nearly anything. While we, as readers, know a lot of what has happened, we don’t know what Lizzie was told. Real!Ciel could have told her the truth, but it’s more likely he told her his version of truth.

For all we know, he could have told her our!Ciel had tried to kill him. That he (our!Ciel) had been behind he murder of their parents, and that his brother had stabbed and cut him all to get to the Phantomhive ring. The last part is true, but think about that as a narrative. Real!Ciel could easily spin a tale that his younger brother, angered by the fact that he would most likely never be the earl, had killed his parents and attempted to kill his brother. He then took the ring to ‘prove’ his identity and stole all his brother had - including his fiance. That would be a scarily plausible lie.

And Lizzie was in a fragile state of mind, meaning she would have been more pliable and susceptible to lies. For now, we have no idea what she’s been told or what she believes.

Does this mean that the real Ciel is bad?
