atm I like persona 5. i am uniquely insane for higuumi but that probably won't come up. I like writing fanfic. thanks. theythem. adult with a full time job. surviving. i kill for transfem akechi and joker.
Hiyas, I'm Gale, an adult in my early 30s who is particularly biased toward akeshuake at this point in their life. I mostly just use Tumblr as an excuse to look at pretty art on my downtime from work, but I like to use it on occasion to post over fic that I've written and dumb text post edits I was possessed to make in a fugue state.
Here's some helpful tags that I use:
Gale Writing - Any of my writing posts or posts about my writing can be found here!
Writing - This is where I tag anything I reblog from other people or recommendations that I make for other fic! Still not a ton here yet but working on it for sure!
Text Posts - I've made many many text post edits and you can find them here. I am silly.
My AO3 - my primary fixation at this time is akeshuake!
My Bisky - the socmed that I use the most at this point in time!

thank you for tagging me for WIP Wednesday @saltymaplesyrup !! I'm actually working on a comm rn but here's something personal I've been chipping away at in between work 🫶 hello sumitaba nation
tagging uhhh @jas-the-shrimp @arimakafu @cinderspots and whoever else wants to join...
hi i was last anon... i actually finished dancesport like the day you published it but it took a while (read: a month) to get up to like... expressing my opinions! you're very very very cool i'm really intimidated (positive) by you lol.
anyays i got over myself and here are my fav bits theyre probably not in order
spoilers for its an arbitrary line that we dance below i suppose?? can i say that?💔
this bit! i was really surprised by how you interpreted in maruki and the kasumi situation so well into the au and it felt so natural
this part made me Laugh Out Loud i love the akesumi friendship in this
akechin gender fuckery go... and the denial... sis you are not fooling anyone... and akira is a Certified Criminal™
more akechin genderfuckery AND akesumi friendship lmao
as a bpdkechi truther even tho it's probably not meant to be this is so bpdkechi i love her... the yearning is so shuake style... i'm pretty sure this is where kechin also talks about quitting dance with sumi? and i don't have a screenshot of that but know it's also one of my favs.
the VERY opening of that akira pov chapter i was so so hooked hello!! as someone who spent lots of their time in institution environments (granted not juvie but apparently very close according to a friend) this is really how it feels. the important facts really are that important lol.
i did a jig when i read this part btw like YAY her egg cracked now she can be haunted but with she/her pronouns lol. the people around her all being so confused and concerned when she says she's quitting dance is a thing i was just thinking about for a while like. like. like...!!!!
i think this is the last of my screenshots (that i can find anyway),,, i interpret this bit as like, she wants people close to her to act close to her (using her given name) but it's literally impossible because doing so would be rejecting a really important part of her/perpetuating her worst fear (being her father's son). her name's akechi akechi now. mic drop.
AND I JUST REALISED I DONT HAVE A SCREENSHIT OF AKECHIN COMING OUT TO SUMIRE!!! BUT THAT PART'S ALSO LIKE. sumi offering advice and help and stuff because she couldn't do so with akira.... aaaa😭 i crode...
thank you so so much for writing her once again you're really talented and definitely one of my favourite writers
Oh you're insanely sweet...I promise I'm honestly very fail adult style all the time, so I hope I can be less intimidating to you as time goes on! I know it's easy to be a bit nervous though so I really appreciate you being willing to actually send me so many thoughts like this, it makes me so happy I could curl up and cry.
I really love Sumire having mixed feelings on Maruki as an adult and her both resenting and being appreciative of what he tried to do for her, if that makes sense? Of course, that doesn't justify his actions---nor in the canon or the AU---but I feel like there's something very human in personally coming to terms with how you've been hurt as you grow up and recognizing that the ways you've been hurt are very human, and oftentimes rooted in a sense of just...no one knowing truly how to fix a difficult situation. Sumire doesn't speak with Maruki anymore in this AU but she respects that he's changed and grown in the background of her life into someone who has found better ways to support trans kids in sports (this isn't really something I address in the fic itself, but I have strong feelings about Maruki being able to change and improve as an adult, even as he did wrong by students as it stands, and his choice to leave behind one vocation where he fucked up always speaks to me as him being someone invested in actually ensuring he doesn't make the same mistakes. It's something I appreciate about P5 if I'm being honest, because I think adults and children both can recover from failures and do what they can to restore injustices done by choosing to live in better ways). That's off topic but I do think about it...if I ever get around to a sequel, I might actually involve Maruki a little bit more honestly (and Sumire of course will continue to be vital to the narrative as one of Akechi's closest friends and Akira's greatest failures).
I love Akechi and Sumire's friendship sssssso fucking much because even though canon doesn't really give a ton of space to delve into it, I think their personalities and issues bounce off each other really well? Because even though Sumire is a very melancholy person, she's also very resilient, and I love the notion of her being able to bounce of Akechi's bad moods. Her experiences with depersonalization make Akechi inclined toward her, but also Akechi will still turn up her nose and be an asshole. But at the end of the day, they both come back together weheheheh...Friends!
I'm glad that the gender fuckery is so good.
Re: BPD Akechi, I don't have any issue with the reading btw! I've had the diagnosis coercively attached to me in the past and it's a diagnosis that I personally disliked (I have huge issues with psychiatry as a field and loathe the way that so many diagnoses are used as weapons against patients, but that's neither here nor there), but I also feel like it's a worthwhile reading to get out of the text! I definitely tend to view Akechi as struggling with being bipolar, which is something I definitely add to the text as well because it's another diagnosis of mine that I personally get more out of than others. But the nature of splitting, the thinking in extremes, the severe issues with attachment---this is all stuff that Akechi is textually struggling with in canon and stuff I wanted to really understand even in the context of an AU removed from canon. She really latches onto Akira in so many ways that speak to her disordered way of thinking and her disordered forms of attachment that I think are vital to any understanding of her character.
I'm glad that the intro to Akira's first POV chapter was good for you!!! I've done a lot of reading into different kinds of institutions and other issues with coercive care for "troubled teens" in the past. If you haven't heard of Élan School, it was something that really informs how I think about the nature of how easy it is for teens to be hurt by systems put in place for "troubled teens". I've also done readings into juvenile detention generally and tried to get a picture of how it looks in Japan, though I wasn't able to put a ton of detail into it unfortunately in this fic itself. There's too many situations that kids and young adults are placed into which are "coercive" care environments made to warp them into very strict expectations and that's so much the issue with detention in many different situations.
Akechi wanting to quit dance being similar to a suicide note is really a big thing I was trying to kind of execute with the text. While Dance is something that is in many ways killing her, it's also her lifeline, and her attachment to the world that keeps her going. And everyone around her understands that she doesn't have a safety net, doesn't have alternatives, has had her life subsumed by dance, and so quitting without steps in place is something that just makes people worry. Even as she comes out into this situation of true womanhood and the acceptance of it, she also is forced to face the "death" of one huge aspect of her life, and that's terrifying. Again, though, this is vital stuff for exploration in a potential sequel haha.
The thing with "You're no one's son" is also in reference to the nature of the kanji of the name Goro 吾郎 which could be read as "my/our son". It's a highly gendered name. However, as you note, the intent is multilayered---Akira rejects the notion of Akechi being her father's "son" or anyone's "son". They insist upon her as the person she is, as being rooted first and foremost in her mother before anyone else in her personal history. Akechi's desire for closeness demands the sensation of being "Goro" to people's tongues, as you say, but also struggles because it's a fundamental denial of her ability to exist outside of the notion of being someone's "son" as well. The name given with love by her mother becoming a complicated cudgel, the final gift she has from her mother, and the thing she hates herself for struggling with.
anyway i know this is sooooo much rambling but every time someone sends me thoughts i have to respond with double the amount of thoughts that person sent because i am insane. i'm really glad you read that fic and i'm even more grateful that you were willing to send and share your thoughts on it...it's very kind, very sweet, and i genuinely appreciate it. it's so nice to be able to write and be understood through the process of writing, and i want to always believe that we can allow ourselves to recognize each other through the process of reading and communicating. so thank you for being brave and kind enough to send me so many thoughts. it means the world to me.
Because I’m curious: reblog this and put in the tags 1) what kind of female characters you tend to find yourself drawn to and 2) if you have any thoughts about the portrayals of these sorts of characters in fiction*
*could mean anything: thoughts on what you think about the way they’re typically portrayed, thoughts on the relative abundance or scarcity of those types of characters in fiction, any character that you felt was handled particularly well or poorly. I just wanna know!

i just finished your dancesport fic and it's very very special to me. those end notes seriously made me bawl my eyes out especially after that ending in akira's pov. omg! it was really very incredibly good and i enjoyed every bit of it!!
i have tons of screenshots of my fav parts i read over again and again but i dont want to un-anon myself to attach them:p
but overall i loved sumire's characterisation, the pronouns in the parentheses from before goro accepted herself that was DELICIOUSSSS!!!, and like the entire karaoke chapter lol. really really really great work and now i will,,, binge the rest of your t4t shuake stuff xd
WAHHHH IM REALLY GLAD if you ever feel up to coming off anon and showing me your favorite bits that would be cool but it's no pressure! obviously i loved writing dancesport and it is insanely precious to me so i'm grateful whenever other people also connect and vibe with what its putting down. i get teary eyed too over the very ending and cried when i was writing the author notes because even though the world is scary and cruel and overwhelming, even though people can be terrifying and unpleasant, i still truly believe in what it means to do right by others and to love another person...writing that fic just instilled and reminded me of all the love i have for the potential of humanity. because no matter how painful and terrifying things are, we can still make the choice to love each other..."i love you. please live." is one of the most important things we can say.
i'm glad you liked sumire's characterizationnnnn i loved writing her like that! she's such a blorbo and so fucking exciting to have be emotional and mentally ill and troubled. akechi having her pronouns meltdown was a favorite addition that wasnt in the initial draft but came to me as i was rewriting the scene. and then of course the karaoke chapter really got away from me but was SO MUCH FUN to write the majority of the cast in a single room. having haru be so bitter and hurt in particular because akechi always prioritized sumire and akira as a teen, to the point that she was left stuck with her abusive fiancee because of akechi's actions, really is one of my favorite little details.
lmk if you read anything else of my oeuvre! i love to talk about it a lot and the t4t is my ultimate passion hahaha...i love them so much. truly the most important thing to me of all and my greatest passion in being able to depict the feelings of trans people...i love transfemininity so much. it's so important to me as someone who leans transmasc. my closest friends are trans girls for the most part so i just always get so much joy out of tgirl akechi and transfem akira...anyway thank you again for sending me this message. it's incredibly sweet and it means the world to me.
Playing a Persona game where they force you to be male is a perfect simulator for the boymoder experience because guys act way too familiar with you and girls all keep their distance and everybody expects you to be a pervert and you just wanna get through the fucking day so you can rank up your social links and kill shadows and mothman is there
transfem akechi waking up in the perfect reality with a new name and the body she’s always dreamed of with no repercussions and immediately trying to detransition out of spite
