I made my background a gossamer worm! Aren’t they pretty?

Yay! I wish I could see them already! Over here in the city most people tend to scare away or even kill off worms because they are seen as “pests”… I find it upsetting that they do not treat other organisms with respect only because they find them frightening. I do not even mind if they are only scared, but treating them with harm is not the way to deal with that… I suppose I can understand being the source of that fear, so I’ve always appreciated worms. I remember in one of the first classes I attended, I had learned about horsehair worms from another student, and I empathized with them heavily despite most other students finding them disgusting. I suppose it is only natural to emphathize with a fellow parasitoid, being hated only for the way we live, despite being unable to choose any other way, hah…

It is so strange that despite that a large number of us arthropods being parasites ourselves, many other arthropods look down upon parasites. I’ve even seen before parasites who look down upon their fellow parasites, saying that the way they live may not be a choice, but that their very existence is still something to be ashamed of, or that parasitoids are “morally inferior” to “true parasites” as they cause the death of their host. Of course these kind of thoughts are born of the mistreatment that parasites get from non-parasites, it saddens me to hear this kind of thing even more from parasites as I’m sure that they only developed these kind of thoughts as a way to prove to non-parasites that they are not really “bad” like all those “other” parasites are. I know that my being born into this world did bring death upon another child, so the fear is partially reasonable, but it also was not my choice to do such a thing. In the best case scenario, new technology would be developed to make it so that parasites would not have to affect anyone harmfully, and in fact significant progress on this kind of technology has been made in the past few years! Just so many people are so afraid of parasites that they would rather see them all dead than try to learn how to coexist with them… … I suppose this got a bit off-topic, didn’t it?

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING INTO THE TECHNOLOGY BEING DEVELOPED TO TRY AND HELP PARASITES LIVE WITHOUT CAUSING HARM TO ANYONE ELSE IT IS VERY INTERESTING AND I HOPE DEVELOPMENT WILL CONTINUE TO GO WELL! A WORLD WITHOUT PARASITES WOULD BE A MUCH SADDER WORLD… AND ALSO THE ECOSYSTEM WOULD GO INTO WACK IMMEDIATELY!!! YIKES!!!!!!

Hah, it would! I’m sure if all parasites died out, new ones would eventually come back around because it is just so convenient of a niche to be a parasite, that’s why there are so many!

Purple is such a nice color! I wish I could shove the color purple into my mouth…..

Purple is indeed the loveliest color, if you ask me. Maybe it doesn’t compare to the entire concept of purple, but I could probably find something purple enough to shove in your mouth… though, it’s not really hard to find something purple when almost our entire home is purple.
