Got some of my new design pieces out of the kiln today. They're all my own Willow Pattern design, using an underglaze pencil with a thin Cobalt Rinse over the top as the background design, and freehand painting the main aspect of the design with a stronger Cobalt Rinse.

I started thinking about places in Bristol that I love, and could relate back to the Willow Pattern itself. The most well known boat in Bristol is the SS Great Britain, but thought it would be too complicated to hand paint onto a teacup so I used the Thekla boat, which is a more personal boat, as I have spent many a night as a teenager on it at gigs.Â
I simply traced the photo I took, and then developed it into a similar, blue and white version so it would tie in with the Willow Pattern original design.
I find drawing blind in my sketchbook helps you really see the movement in which the mind uses to create a copy of something. I like the way the pencil picks up the lines used when being dragged to another aspect of the picture.
