Duck pushed open his bedroom door. His house was covered in a crushing darkness, like he had just stepped foot into a black hole. Gingerly, he walked down the stairs, careful not to make much noise. Once he reached the floor he tried the front door but, it didn’t budge. Panic began to overcome his body.

"Help!” He screamed, as he banged wildly on the door. “Somebody Help Me!” There was no response, no scuffle outside, no friends to save him. It was as if his house had morphed into an echo chamber overnight. The pitter patter of footsteps could be heard behind him.

Sweat dripped in large drops down the side of Duck’s face. He whipped his head around to face the sound. A dog, if he could even call it that, ran into the room. It had his legs but, even worse than that, it had his head and its limbs looked like they had been hastily sewed onto its body. The thing went to bark but nothing but a meek quack came out instead. It sat down and tilted its head at him, tail wagging violently behind it. The dog stared daggers into his soul, as if it were trying to tell him something. This is what you’re worth.

Duck backed into the door. A sloppy, wet sound caught his attention above. He shone his torch towards the corner of the ceiling and noticed a red substance oozing out of it. He watched as it dripped down from every corner of the room. Chunks of meat fell in its wake, littering the floor in a twisted burst of confetti. Mixed into it were bundles of green feathers and red string. It was a lot like watching autumn leaves fall but, if the sky were a fox instead of a light blue void, shaking him around violently in its jaw. It reminded Duck of something, past trauma come back to haunt him perhaps.
