The rain had been falling for hours, a steady, patient drizzle that turned the world into something softer at the edges. It sheeted off the eaves of the overhang where you stood, dripping in irregular intervals onto the cracked pavement below. He was still, so still that for a moment you wondered if he was even breathing. The armor he wore seemed to swallow the light around him, making him a darker shape against the grey of the evening.
“I only ask for one thing.” His voice is lower than usual.
You look at him, but through the blackened visor, you can’t tell what kind of expression he’s wearing. The helmet gives you nothing back but your own dim reflection and the rain gathering in silver beads across its surface.
Still, somehow... You feel like you can see his eyes. Like they’re piercing straight through the visor and into you.
Waiting. Almost desperate. Anticipating your answer or perhaps hoping you’ll agree before you’ve even decided what exactly he’s asking of you.
“Don’t be my heartbreaker.”
For a second, you simply stare at him.
What kind of request was that?
Of course, any decent person wouldn’t want to break someone’s heart. But wanting and doing were two very different things, weren’t they? Sometimes, you didn’t even realize you were hurting someone until the damage had already been done. Sometimes you could think you were doing everything right while someone else quietly came apart because of you. That was the trick of it, wasn't it?
The cruelty of intention versus impact.
You wonder if you could really keep a promise like that.

So the first thing this strange guarded man had ever asked from you... Was not to break his heart.

The rain whispers against the pavement around you.

The question leaves your mouth more heavily than you intended.
You notice it immediately. The way his body goes still.The subtle flex of his shoulders beneath whatever layers he’s wearing, tension suddenly pulling him rigid.
For a moment, he doesn’t answer. Instead, he turns his face away from you, only so slightly. As if the visor wasn’t already doing a perfectly good job of hiding him.
The droplet streaked surface caught the light as he moved, and for a moment you could almost imagine the weight of his stare behind it.
“Or…” You hesitate, then reverse the question. “Did you break someone else’s?”
His head lowers.
Was he ashamed? Or was he thinking?
The silence stretches. One second then another. And another. Until the rain begins to feel louder than either of you.
Slowly and steadily, the wind carries it harder through the air. Droplets strike the ground with increasing force, splashing against your boots. Somewhere nearby, something metallic rattles in the gusts. You could hear the distant rumble of thunder rolling across the sky.
“I guess…” His voice is quieter now. “We just couldn’t give each other what one wanted.”
You say nothing. The words settle between you. You wonder who he’s talking about.
Whether that person had hurt him badly enough for this single request to matter so much. Or whether he had hurt them just as badly. Maybe it was both. It usually was.
And yet, for some reason, it doesn’t feel like he’s only talking about an old memory.
It feels like he’s talking about you. About the possibility of you.
“I don’t make promises I can’t keep, Werner.” Your voice breaks the silence.
He shifted at the sound of his name. Rainwater rolls down the dark curve of his visor, distorting the faint light caught across it like veins. You met that blank gaze as if you could see through it, as if somewhere behind that reflective shield, his eyes were locked directly onto yours.
“But I don’t think I want to be anyone’s heartbreaker.”
The rain brushes coldly against your skin, sharp enough to wake you up, to clear something from your head.
You hold his unseen gaze. “As long as you don’t break mine, I won’t break yours.”
He was quiet for a long moment, and then something shifted in the set of his shoulders. A release of tension so subtle you might have missed it if you weren't watching so closely.
“That’s a reasonable position.”
“I wouldn’t want to either.” He pauses briefly before continue. “If I ever get the opportunity.”
You couldn't help the small smile that tugged at your lips. It was such a rare thing, hearing him string together more than three words at a time.
You stare at him for a moment. “Are you implying I have the power?” The question came out lighter than you'd intended.

I don't think so, mainly because Lane knows his place isn't exactly the best place to share with someone. He'd have to clean up his mess, probably get a bed, and actually make room for another person. And honestly, I don't think he's invested enough in a one-week relationship to do something that serious yet.
One week also definitely isn't enough time for Lane to lower all of his walls. Even in Shift 3, when he asks MC out on a date, he's still beating around the bush SO hard. So I feel like there's a pretty high chance that he wouldn't just ask her to move in after a week.
He'd probably want her to come over and hang out all the time, though. I think he'd like the idea of living together, but he'd also be realistic enough to understand what actually living together means. It's not always gonna be cute, cuddly, sexy time.
They're gonna argue. MC is definitely gonna nag him about his mess. And Lane absolutely doesn't want to accidentally turn his girlfriend into his mom lmaooo
So even if he likes having her around and secretly likes the idea of her staying with him, I don't think he'd be the one to actually suggest moving in that early. He'd probably let things naturally get to that point first.

Idk... I think it depends on whether Ludwig is currently hyperfixated on hunting down his favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! cards or trying to find people cosplaying his favorite waifu every five steps.
I feel like he probably has his own little weeb group of friends and some of them might even be into cosplay photography. So if you happen to cosplay a character from one of his favorite series, there's a pretty decent chance you'd catch his attention.
He'd probably recognize the character before he even notices you. So if you really wanna increase your chances of finding Ludwig, just cosplay one of his favorite characters. Though there's still a very real possibility that you'll walk right past him because he's too busy digging through a Yu-Gi-Oh! card booth.

Okay, this is partly me projecting, but I feel like Amy would LOVE putting MC in mini skirts and shorts. She'd absolutely be the type to pick out something a little more revealing and be like “Trust me, you'd look so cute in this.”
I also feel like she'd be really into accessories. She seems like the kind of person who'd have a bunch of cute little knickknacks and immediately start putting them on MC. Especially bracelets and necklaces. And I can see her making MC wear her octagonal cap too.

Lane: hed be highly affectionate, so much that itd probably become annoying to the MC. hed want constant touching, holding MC's hand or pulling her closer to him. hes naturally pretty touchy himself and used to ppl liking him, so a partner constantly hanging off him wouldnt feel strange.
of course, sometimes hed complain about it, make jokes or call her needy… but he wouldnt push her away, hed just encourage it. x)
his tolerance would be very high too but of course if the MC is annoying him while he is gaming, hed just be a douche. xD
BB: at first BB would have no idea what to do. xD the first months with him would probably be a disaster because hes absolutely NOT used to receiving random affection.

Honestly though, I think he’d like it when you cling onto him while he’s taking you out for a race. If you grab onto him instinctively because of the speed, I feel like that’d stroke his ego a little AND he gets to enjoy the adrenaline rush, so it’s basically a win-win for him.
Kissing is a bit 50/50. Part of me thinks he’d absolutely enjoy you randomly showering his face with kisses because again, it strokes his ego and he likes knowing you’re that into him. But if he’s not in the mood or he’s in the middle of doing something, I can also see him getting a little irritated like “Not now.”

Serkan: I think Serkan would be like BB when it comes to receiving unexpected affection from a girl he loves. He’d be surprised because it’s something he’s probably never experienced before (bro is 100% virgin spare him). The difference is that I think Serkan would get used to it much faster than BB.
He seems to have grown up in a family where he was loved and cared for, so affection itself probably isn’t foreign to him. He’s just not used to receiving that kind of affection from someone he’s romantically involved with. It’d probably take him a little while to build up the courage to initiate or return it naturally, but once he gets there, he’s there.
I can totally see him smiling like an idiot every time MC randomly kisses or hugs him, and then later at work he’ll randomly remember it and start smiling to himself again. Then either the guys yell at him for getting distracted or they tease the hell out of him during break XD

I think he’d be shy and flustered about it at first, probably around the same way Serkan is, but I actually think Lub is naturally more physically affectionate than Serkan. Once he gets used to MC being clingy, I can see him becoming pretty clingy himself.
Honestly, he might even get used to it faster than Serkan and start initiating it more often too. Idk if this has been mentioned before but, logically BB is still getting money from the military if he qualified for a disability compensation (assuming whatever haven to his face affected his eye) but if not, since he only served 4 years he doesn’t qualify for a full pension. Meaning he’s not even getting payed for whatever happened to his face and the trauma.
(Might be wrong on this but I asked my old ROTC sergeant and he explained it like that)
I think someone already brought this up before. They also mentioned the psychological help and other benefits that can come with VA disability, but BB probably wouldn’t really use that side of it anyway. He doesn’t seem like the type who’d be comfortable asking for psychological help or admitting that he needs it.
I didn’t know exactly how the US system worked, so I looked into it a bit. From what I understand, military retirement pension and VA disability compensation are two different things.
The 20-year service requirement is for the regular military retirement pension, but you don’t necessarily have to serve 20 years to qualify for VA disability. If someone has an honorable or general discharge and has a physical or mental condition that’s connected to their military service, they can potentially receive monthly VA disability compensation even if they only served for a few years.
If the injury to his face was service-connected, facial scarring/disfigurement is actually something the VA considers even if the scar doesn’t cause pain or affect movement or vision. There are several characteristics they look at, like the size of the scar, whether it’s raised or depressed, whether it’s attached to the tissue underneath, abnormal pigmentation or texture, and whether there’s underlying tissue loss.
So if BB’s scar really is as large/severe as Laly described, I think it’s pretty reasonable that he could qualify for disability compensation because of the disfigurement. I just wouldn’t know what percentage he’d get since that depends on exactly how the VA evaluates the scar and the medical evidence.
The psychological side makes even more sense for BB.
The game keeps it pretty subtle, but there are already quite a few hints that he wasn’t doing well psychologically after the incident. His sergeant apparently wanted him to discharge, helped him find a job, and seemed pretty aware that BB wasn’t in a good state.
There’s also the fact that Laly mentioned his nightmares about the war, and when someone asked whether BB taking the pizza job had anything to do with it not requiring a psychological evaluation, she confirmed that was part of the reason. At the same time, she implied that BB himself doesn’t really see psychological evaluation as something he needs. He’d rather prove that he’s still capable by working than have someone evaluate him and tell him whether there’s something wrong with him.
Because of that, I kind of like the idea that his psychological evaluation was already pretty bad around the time he was talking about reenlisting. He probably didn’t really know what else to do with himself, so reenlisting seemed like the most straightforward option to him.
His sergeant, on the other hand, had actually seen his performance and probably recognized that something was seriously wrong, which would explain why he was so against BB reenlisting. It would also explain why he pushed him toward discharge, helped him find a civilian job, and even warned the pizza boss not to let him drive a vehicle.
BB also says that his sergeant understands his situation very well, so I can see why he’d be uncomfortable with the whole thing.
So yeah, if BB really is dealing with PTSD or another service connected psychological condition after the incident, he could potentially have a VA disability claim based on that even if the physical injury itself didn’t affect his vision or movement. And if the facial injury left significant scarring or disfigurement, that could potentially be another basis for compensation.
The bigger question would be whether he actually filed for it, and knowing BB, I can absolutely see him either not applying at all or not making much use of the psychological side of the benefits even if he technically qualifies.
What about RB and parenthood ? I feel like he could want a kid to have fun activities with it, but at the same time, I feel like he wouldn’t want a kid because it’s mean that he’d have to take care of it instead of having fun and doing risky stuff

If I had to guess though, he'd probably be more like the cool uncle than the stereotypical dad. But if he did become a father, I could actually see him being the type who's somehow both incredibly fun and surprisingly strict.
He'd absolutely encourage the kids' chaos, but only because he knows he can handle it. He'd be the kind of dad who lets them do dumb stuff within reason, makes them laugh, and then immediately puts them back in line when they're pushing it too far.
"You want some fun, adrenaline-filled bonding time with Dad? Cool. Go help your mom first. If that isn't done, then we're not doing anything today."
He's probably a lot more intimidating than he lets on when it actually matters.
And honestly, I don't think he'd find taking care of kids boring at all. I used to work in childcare, and damn... kids are unpredictable as hell 😭 They're basically tiny agents of chaos.

Mostly because I feel like Lane would constantly question whether he’s actually a good dad or if he’s capable of being one, even after they already have kids. He’d probably go through that at every stage of their kids’ lives because he really doesn’t want to fuck anything up. So if the kids naturally cling to MC more sometimes, I can see him overthinking it and wondering if he’s not doing enough or if he’s doing something wrong somewhere.
It wouldn’t really be jealousy toward MC or the kids. I think it’d hit more on his own lack of confidence as a parent. Tbh I think it depends, because BB is pretty standout even without his helmet/mask. It’s more about his overall appearance, body build, height, etc so he’d probably still be pretty hard to miss unless they happen to be somewhere with a lot of people who look similar to him. Or if he intentionally wanted MC not to recognize him, like when he’s stalking her or something, but I doubt that’d be the case here since they’re on a date and he’d obviously want her to recognize him.
I also don’t think BB would pick a super crowded place for a date in the first place. I feel like he’d choose somewhere a little quieter, where MC would be able to spot him pretty easily as soon as she arrived.
So if she somehow still just walked right past him, I don’t think he’d be that surprised or offended. He’d probably just realize she didn’t recognize him and call out to her.
