This project was to repackage and redesign a small brewery of our choice. Revolver Brewing appears to have a really cool personality, but I felt like their branding and packaging didn’t reflect that. I really wanted to take the concept of a revolver gun, and run with it. The prototype I moved forward with takes the shape of a revolver’s cylinder. Looking down on the 6pack, the beers are arranged in a circle, mirroring the way bullets fit in the gun. As for the packaging itself, I wanted it to have a double life. Considering this is a Texas beer named after a gun and knowing that Texans love their firearms, I figured a double life as target practice would be perfect. The target works from the bottom, or by opening the 6pack and separating the back and bottom from the compartments. This packaging is also beneficial for those who don’t want to drink all six beers. You can easily tear it down the middle to take 3 beers with you and leave the other 3 at home. The amount of material used is pretty close to the amount of material that is used currently, but the new packaging can go on to function as something else.
For the rebrand, I wanted play off old westerns. I realized that revolver kind of reads the same forwards as it does backwards. I felt like this illustrated the duals between cowboys in the old movies. I wanted to keep branding the same across the board, but still make it easy for consumers to know what flavor beer they were grabbing without thinking twice about it. I ended up going with a graphic dessert scene, that would be the same no matter what. To differentiate, the sky would change colors, reflecting what ingredients are put in the flavor it goes with. Lastly, the bottle cap graphics are a simplistic illustration of bullets in the cylinder.
