Before I posted the next couple, I wanted to give some context to how and why we did these shots, as a homage to the photographer and to explain why my dumb ass is dogging out in the street and pissing on hydrants.

These images were shot by the late Kenneth Probst (www.kennethprobst.com). Kenneth scouted me out in a grocery store one day, and what I thought was going to be a creepy old man encounter turned into a great friendship and artistic exploration. Kenneth was a man who simply did not understand how to be abashed or embarrassed. Once he caught wind of me being gay, a furry, and a human dog, the ideas and concepts rolled out of him like water off a fall. This session was the one that I appreciated the most.

The concept itself was simple. A young professional out for a walk with his dog, only the dog is a man. The dominant impression of the shots were to be my dog energy exchanging with my Master’s energy, with as nonsexual of presentation as possible. Kenneth wanted as little fetish getting in the way as was feasible. I wanted knee pads and gloves because the streets of San Francisco are gross.

I appreciate the silhouette of a geared up rubber pup just as much as the next hornball, but being a dog is purely cerebral for me. It’s about stripping away the knowledge of our constructed behaviors and projecting a more pure and simplified self. Kenneth’s vision for the images spoke right to my views on what he wanted to shoot.

Stripping away the gear that dehumanizes the pup while still capturing the exchange and energy of a Master/pup dynamic enticed me. I feel I am lucky in that, though I do own and use gear on a regular basis, it’s not a requirement for me to obtain my pup headspace. Even though I enjoy it, I don’t see the point in hiding behind the implied, yet non-existent, anonymity of a mask in order to draw something out or be more comfortable with oneself.

This experience was the most amazing opportunity I’ve had to explore my dog self in full view of the world without there being some constructed event that makes it more acceptable. I was bathed in a mental freedom and cerebral silence unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Throughout the process of creating the images, I obtained not a disregard for how I should behave as a human, but a blissful ignorance of it. It was a variant exploration of dog headspace I’ve yet to experience again.

I hope that wasn’t to tl;dr. Here’s me (almost) pissing on a hydrant. Aiming is hard. :3
