We're Halfway There

“I am telling you. My little sister is only five and the way she presents an argument to me on why she should stay up late or why I should let her fave an extra bowl of ice cream, it actually almost makes me consider giving her what she is asking.” He chuckled. “Eh, I guess not. A little wouldn’t hurt, right?”

“I’m now wondering if your little sister and my daughter are conspiring somehow - my daughter has been showing a talent for those kinds of arguments as well, it’s slightly concerning and making me worry about when she reaches her teenage years.” He gives his own laugh, “We have a few rules regarding sweets and stuff now - I’m hoping it’s acceptable for little miss while also helping me avoid cavities and the dreaded sugarrush.” 

“Are you a teacher or something or are you talking about your own kids?” Alex asked him, more so trying to keep the conversation going. “I don’t think anyone could, honestly. Although it does depend on what sweets you are offering.”

“I’m a social worker, but I also have a very creative little girl of my own.” Chase easily spoke, offering a little shrug and a smile, “It is hard when they put up convincing arguments, that’s for sure - small sweets on occasion are acceptable depending on what they are and how much is involved I’d say.”

“It’s physically impossible to say no to a child when they’re pouting at you. My brother does it all the time.”

“It’s no joke let me tell you, between the pouting and the mere sight of tears - its a battle to say no to just about anything.. sadly it’s something that has to be sone sometimes. But my daughter is becoming quite creative with explaining ‘why’ she should be allowed what she wants, its amusing for sure.”

“The struggle with going to school and having a five year old to take care of can me a pain in the ass. Luckily for me, she’s at summer camp during the day and I am at work, so when I get home, she eats dinner, plays a bit, we watch a movie and she’s out like a light. My only issue is that instead of getting work done during her down time, I am faling asleep as well. I need to learn some new methods of priortizing my time better. Someone help me.”

“It’s a difficult road to travel that’s for sure. Juggling your own life and the life of your kid, but hey - you will find the right things that work for you I’m sure of it. Have you tried the idea of her ‘helping’ you? I’m not saying actually let her help you with your work - but give her a few pieces of paper to ‘work on’ - or rather draw pictures - ‘to help’ while you work on a few things - it worked wonders with my daughter let me tell you.”
