[ 10:02pm ]
Why is it that you and your six favourite boys are sneaking into the university's old abandoned library at 10pm on a cold rainy night? Halloween, of course. After a week of back and forth, arguing over Saturday and Sunday before finally deciding on the very night of all Hallows' Eve and into the morning of November 1st. "If we get caught, I'm killing you." Daehyeon huffs, hands shoved deep into his jacket pockets.
"If I die tonight, I'll kill you," you deadpan, shooting a glare in Donghan’s direction but he only laughs.
“Yah,” Yongha whines in your ear, “don't say things like that! I'm scared enough as it is."
You chuckle and give him a gentle nudge. "We'll be fine—"
Donghan pipes up. “Security only comes by once a night around 8; if we get in trouble, it won't be at the hands of security."
SMACK.
“Why would you say such a thing, hyung?” Yohan sputters, rubbing the back of his hand as Donghan feels for a welt on the back of his head.
Daehyeon quickly reigns everyone in, pulling your attention to the old building before you.
It stands three storeys tall. The massive, cracked, dirty cement blocks that make the outer wall make your stomach drop. Something feels wrong here, whether it be the building's depressing state or the bubbling anxiety in the group.
Junseo reaches for the rusty handle of the main door. The rotting wood almost gives as he tugs the door open with a creak.
"After you," he smiles sheepishly.
[ 10:13pm ]
"Alright," Donghan smirks, "I dare you to head to the girl's bathroom on the top floor, knock on the third stall three times, and call out to Hanako-san."
There you sit in still silence, empty bookcases and broken tables surrounding you. You swear you can hear your breath bouncing off the walls as all seven of you sit in a circle with a bottle in the middle, playing truth or dare.
And of course, Donghan has to test his luck with you during the first round.
"Absolutely not. Try again."
A chorus of protests sound from the boys; Donghan is shouting that you can't turn down the dare while the others told him it wasn't fair or wasn't right. The arguing continues for a moment before the boys fall silent. Finally, Seokhwa speaks up.
"How about we can't force anyone to do anything that could potentially put them in danger," he glares at Donghan, "Whether physical or… otherworldly. Okay?"
A hushed murmur of agreement rises from the group.
"Good. So, (Y/N), you don't have to do anything. Donghan hyung, choose something else."
The older brunet rolled his eyes playfully, tapping his finger against his chin. "How about… (Y/N) tells us a secret? I dare you to tell us who 'my love' with a sparkling heart emoji is in your phone."
You gasp as the boys let out enthusiastic oohs, urging you to spill the beans and cursing you for keeping such a secret from them.
[ 11:54pm ]
"Wait… what?"
Laughter and shouts fill the large room, empty bookcases and stone walls only amplifying the noise. You're sure that Donghan was right when he said security doesn't come past a certain hour; if someone did, you're certain the broken and cracked windows would have betrayed you.
"I said I dare myself to go to the third stall of the girls' washroom upstairs to call Hanako-san. I'm not scared so… I can do it, right? That was the rule, am I wrong?"
He's met with another wall of protests as you call him crazy and the other members question his intentions.
Seokhwa rolls his eyes. "Not unless someone goes with you, you dummy. Just give up."
"You're not gonna let this go, will you?" You glare at him from across the circle.
He smirks, shaking his head.
"Fine then," you take a deep breath. "I'll go with you, but only to get you to shut up. Then no more bathrooms, got it?"
He nods eagerly, shooting up from his seat as the other members mumble disapprovingly. Donghan reaches his hand out to you. Begrudgingly, you accept it.
[ 12:02am ]
Donghan struts into the bathroom, giving you the rundown of the lore. According to him, Hanako-san was a schoolgirl, which you know. Though there are a lot of different stories, it is known that she was a young girl that died in the third stall of the third bathroom. A line of communication with her can supposedly be opened by knocking on the matching stall door three times and asking if she's there. From that point on, if she is there, she may speak, but more often than not a hand will reach out and pull you into hell.
So this was why he wanted to visit the girls' bathroom on the third floor of the abandoned library, to test the legend.
'She's from Japan anyway, I doubt she travels internationally,' he brushed you off.
Lovely, you think as you pile into the washroom with the tall boy next to you. While you're anxious, he seems excited. And it pisses you off to no end, you don't like this at all. Just as you're about to tell him you want to leave, he beckons you forward.
"Go on, she might be scared if a boy called out to her, you know?"
Despite yourself, you nod. That's the most sense he's made all night.
You're trembling, heart racing as you force yourself to take slow, deep breaths. Looking over your shoulder, you see Donghan smirking. Why were you the one to do it, then?
Slowly, you step forward. Then, as if not to disturb her, you gently knock on the stall door before speaking quietly. "Hanako-san, are you there?"
The bathroom is silent for only a few seconds before you hear Donghan's laughter squeak out from behind you. He grabs you by your shoulders and moves you to the side before placing himself in front of the stall door.
Oh no.
"Yah, you have to make sure she hears you! Sorry for my friend," he bows quickly, "they're a little shy."
Your shoulders tense as soon as Donghan's knuckle hits the hollow metal. Once. Twice. Then, a third time.
Every knock reverberates inside you; you can't breathe. It's such a jarring noise that you're sure the other boys could hear it as well. But then a sudden silence falls over the room.
You hear the grin in Donghan's voice as he sings, "Oh Hanako-san, are you there?"
A slow creak fills the room as the seventh stall door opens. And then the sixth, and the fifth right after. The room gets colder with each door that opens. As soon as the fourth door stills, you stare in horror at the stall in front of you. You inch your way closer to Donghan, who takes a step back to watch.
But then the second stall door opens, and then the first. A few seconds pass and there's nothing. The third stall was still closed.
You let out a shaky breath, startled to see it materialize before you. How can it be this cold?
Another moment of silence passes before you find the courage to speak. "Hana- Hanako-san?"
BOOM!
A cold dead hand shoots out from behind the stall door, immediately grabbing Donghan by the throat and beginning to pull him towards the stall.
You shriek, turning away in horror as he shouts curses and pleas for help. In a split second, you turn to face him before grabbing him by the waist and planting your feet on the ground.
With a sudden jerk forward, he flies through the entrance of the stall only to slam his hands and feet in the doorway. Crying out, he tries to force his body back as you backpedal, sobbing into his back and begging for him to be let go.
"Yah!" He croaks. "Let. Me. Go."
You use your own leg to brace yourself against the metal doorframe, begging Donghan to push harder as you feel him slip closer.
A loud growl drowns out your cries, mocking them as you fight against an unknown power.
Finally, Donghan pushes himself away with a shout, moving his shoulders back outside the stall. Then, as suddenly as the hand came out, it retreats back into the toilet and the stall door slams shut.
The boys stumbles back, tripping over you as you both topple to the ground, panting heavily. Tears soak both your cheeks. He moves closer to you, only able to croak.
"(Y/N), please, are you okay?"
You start to sob harder resting your head on his shoulder.
"I-I'm so sorry that-that I brought you into this."
"Are you okay?" You whimper, to which he rests his head on top of yours.
You both stay in each other's clumsy embrace for a few moments, catching your breath and whispering words of comfort. Neither of you understand what just happened but by God are you relieved it's over.
"Are you happy now?" You whisper, to which you receive silence as an answer. You don't mean to blame him in such a horrible moment, but if it wasn't for his insistence, none of this would have happened.
"I'm so sorry."
"So am I."
[ 1:20am ]
The voices started what feels like forever ago. The moment you both caught your breath and looked in each other's eyes, preparing yourselves for what's next, a chorus of murmurs began.
You don't know when you started crying or when Donghan pulled you into his lap, but there you are. Your face hiding in his shirt, tears soaking the fabric as you shake in his arms from fear and from the ever-dropping temperature. You can't feel your fingers or toes anymore, and your nose is red and running.
Donghan's back is against the cold wall as he holds onto you like his life depends on it. And for all he knows, it might. His face is buried in your hair, not once looking at anything outside the two of you because he knows that seeing it will make it real.
Some voices are male or female, or those of children or demons. They're speaking in every language at once, some telling soft secrets while others curse and growl. Neither of you know where they're coming from; they're in the vent next to Donghan, in the stalls, in the pipes, and in your own ears. They come from everywhere and nowhere, saying everything and nothing. They're beckoning you, but you don't know where to.
"D-donghan?" You whimper, hands tightening around the fabric of his shirt. "I'm afraid to move. Do you see anything?"
You can't stop shaking. Seeing you like this, knowing it was his idea and having no idea where you were anymore or if you'll ever be okay, the boy's heart breaks.
"I haven't looked," his voice quivers. "I'm scared."
You cry in response, offering to look together. He agrees, and you both slowly lift your heads.
You gag immediately, an unearthly smell hitting your nose. Donghan pulls you closer, trying to tell you it's okay. But you both know it isn't.
The voices are louder now, chanting, as you look around you. The metal of the stall doors is all that's left of the bathroom; the floors and walls are made of a greyish flesh, pulsating beneath you. The sinks are cracked and blood pours from the taps, a never ending stream falling into an opening in the flesh of the ground. The toilets are covered in a thick, black oily-looking substance with steam rising to the sky.
The air is colder than winter, freezing your tears before they fall. "Oh my god."
He's not here, the voices finally speak in unison, making you both scream.
Adrenaline pumps through your veins, sending you to your feet. You grab your friend's hand and you bolt for the exit, Donghan following closely behind. But you're not moving.
No matter how quickly your feet hit the group, the narrow hall in front of you only continues to stretch. The more you run, the further and smaller the door becomes. The floor squelches beneath your feet with every footfall.
You shriek, lungs burning and face white-hot. You can't see him, but you can feel Donghan's going through the same thing.
"(Y/N), don't stop! We need to keep trying."
And you do. You run as hard and as fast as you can, the voices around you growing louder and closer, before fading slightly and returning as before. They called you names, threatened your family, told you of your doom twenty times over, and told you to stop. They told you that you could never leave, not now that you'd joined them. There's no going back.
You scream and push forward, no idea how long you've been running for. It's felt like hours, but only minutes at the same time. You taste blood but continue pushing forward, knowing they can't win.
Donghan cries out in exhaustion and you try to shout in encouragement, to tell him to not give up on you, but it comes out a whisper.
Your legs burns and your eyes tear up once again. Slowly, you start to feel heat return to your body.
"Do you feel that?" You manage, and the boy next to you shouts in agreement.
It's warming up. As you continue, the floor becomes solid, and then the wall returns to its original concrete. Finally, the door starts getting bigger.
Closer.
Closer.
[ 3:29am ]
You finally reach the door, coughing and panting. Donghan leans against you, rubbing your back as tears stream down his face. You reach for the handle and pull the door open only to be greeted by the five most welcoming faces you could've ever asked to see.
"Woah! Are you okay?" Daehyeon asks, eyes wide in concern.
A sob rips through your body, launching you into the boys' arms. You can't hear what they're saying, only that their voices are hushed and comforting, albeit distorted.
You look for Donghan before sighing, seeing him in Junseo's arms.
We're not going anywhere, you hear them mutter, but the noise is coming from all around you. Tears continue down your cheek, washing away a trail of blood and dirt. The ringing in your ears slowly stops and the boys' voices become louder, pulling you closer to reality and security.
You open your mouth to speak, but all that comes is a rough cough. You want to question the boys, ask them how they found you or if they saw anything, but you can't help but notice they keep repeating the same phrase. Over and over again. They weren't asking if you were okay or what happened, or even trying to get you away from the classroom.
A feeling of dread pierces through the embrace the boys hold you in. Their murmurs are no longer comforting, but instead dark and mindless. Their voices are clearer now, like a filter's been lifted. You hear them clearly now, but hope to God you've got it all wrong.
Taking a deep breath, you swallow yet another sob and look up. The clock on the wall reads 3:33am. Your teary eyes meet Yongha's and, to your horror, you see nothing. Instead of his usual concern or energy, but only cold dead beads greet you.
"You're not going anywhere." His eyes turn black as his lips twist into a sick, impossible smile. His cheeks crack like porcelain as his lips continue upward. "You're not going anywhere."

"Oof," your back hits the mattress with a dull thud. You sigh, allowing the weight of the past week to seep into the sheets.
You can't believe you're finally at the end of it, finally done your last presentation of the semester. After months of studying and struggling, losing sleep and shedding tears, you finally have a break. All those hours poured into sitting in front of your computer, scanning through your textbooks, and taking endless notes. And that's not to mention those spent cursing after lazy project partners.
After a moment, you let out a soft groan as you sit up slowly. With blurry vision, you stumble to your dresser to pull out more comfortable clothes, eager to leave anything reminding you of the past few months behind you. Hastily, you rub your eyes. To your surprise, your hands come away wet.
You chuckle dryly. Not today, you think. School can't get the best of you, especially now that it's done. Now, it's time for you to relax and enjoy yourself. And your boyfriend's company, of course.
You pull out your phone. Looking at the time, you realize you had fallen asleep; it was 7pm, and your exam finished at 4.
'When do you think you'll be done?' You text Intak. But instead of a response, you hear the front door open.
"Honey, I'm home!" Your boyfriend shouts from the entrance before giggling softly.
You rush to greet him, throwing yourself into him as fast as you can. He lets out a laugh, wrapping his arms tightly around you. You sway back and forth a moment before his hand reaches to brush your hair from your face.
"How are you, sunshine? You're all done!"
You chuckle. "I am. How was your day?"
"Good! But hush, now it's us time: no school or work talk. Got it?" He grins, pulling away from you only to take your hand and guide you to the bedroom. "Tonight, we eat junk food, watch movies, and relax."
You match Intak's bright grin. "Yessir."
"Takeout'll be here soon. Let's find something to watch!" He cheers, plopping into the middle the mattress.
Gosh, it's been too long, you think.
"What's on your mind?"
"Nothing. I love you," you reply, making your way over to your boyfriend.
"I love you too," he says.
Within a few moments, you and Intak are laying in bed, takeout containers on your laps and computer playing a movie by your feet. Your head rests against his chest, his heartbeat gentle against your ear. You speak softly as he cracks jokes at the awkward dialogue on-screen.
Much to your surprise, after only 40 minutes, you hear gentle snoring from beneath you. Your lips turn upright in disbelief: your boyfriend never fell asleep before you. He looks so peaceful, his features so delicate and smooth.
Careful not to wake him, you turn your head and, with a giggle, you place a soft kiss on Intak's chin.

“Isn’t that why I’m here?” You tease, earning a chuckle from your boyfriend.

This time it’s your turn to laugh as you shuffle towards him, arms open wide to embrace him. But before you can reach Chan, his arms wrap tightly around your waist and he pulls your body into his.
"Baby," you try to stifle a giggle. Had you not known any better, you may have thought your boyfriend shoving his face into your chest was some sort of advance.
After a moment, he looks up at you with wide eyes. Chan says nothing, but stares up at you with pure adoration. It makes butterflies erupt in your stomach. The smile on his lips warms your heart, and you can't help but return one of your own. Gently, you brush the stray strands of hair that curl towards his eyes.
"What's on your mind, handsome?"
"That I love you," he hums. After a moment's pause where he rubs soothing circles into your hips, he grins. "And this!"
Before you can process what's going on, one of your boyfriend's arms locks around your waist. His other hand ghosts up your side, fingers dancing across your skin.
You shriek and try to pull away, but his grip only tightens. "Chan! Chan! Oh my gosh, we're rolling away," you cackle.
"I just love you so, so much, (Y/N)."
"Chan, let me go! Christopher!"
"No! I'll never let you go," he shouts childishly as his chair crashes into the desk.
After another moment filled with giggles and protests, you finally wrap your arms tightly around him and pull your body to his. Your boyfriend protests feebly, though you both know he could easily overpower you.
You lean into him gently, warning him against starting again as you catch your breath.
Chan gently guides you to sit on his thigh, your legs still between his. You lean your head against his, your breath gently fanning his forehead as he gently brushes your hair. Everything is quiet but your breathing and your heart's pounding gradually slowing in your ears.
"What was that for?" You finally ask once you can trust your voice.
"Just 'cuz," he beams, pecking your lips. "I love having you here with me."
"And I love being here with you," you return his kiss.

You knew something was up the moment you walked through the door. As soon as it opened, you were greeted with wide smiles and enthusiastic greetings all around. It’s easy to reason that maybe they were just excited to see you--it had been a while since you had seen the boys at the dorm. But you knew differently as soon as you set foot into the living room after shouting a greeting.
The boys rushed to take their spots on the sofas, conveniently leaving a spot open right next to Shinwon, the member Hongseok has been trying to set you up with for over a year. So that’s how you got there, on the right side of the soft leather couch, next to and sharing popcorn with Shinwon during your semi-monthly movie night with Pentagon.
You do your best to ignore the glances Hongseok keeps sending as you accidentally brush hands with the other boy. Unconsciously, you shrink back further into the couch.
“Are you cold?” Shinwon whispers.
You shake your head but before you can speak, he’s taking off his hoodie and draping it over your lap.
“There,” he says. “All better.”
With red cheeks, you thank him and return your gaze to the TV, careful to not make contact with the sets of eyes stuck to you.
Almost 20 minutes in, Yeo One gets up and announces he needs to leave for the gym. Then, Wooseok says he needs to go to the studio. Then, Hongseok leaves for the gym and Yanan says he has to ‘do stuff,’ which leaves you with Shinwon, Yuto, and Kino by the 40-minute mark. They weren’t being sly, and you’re certain Shinwon’s noticed too; how couldn’t he?
“Why… would someone actually do that?” He laughs as the male lead pulls of a dramatic proposal. “It’s so impractical, it’s not even sweet. Could you imagine the cleanup?”
You giggle. “I don’t know, what if someone’s worth the clean-up?”
“But the person that does it never cleans up, some janitor will have to!”
“At the pier?!”
He stops a moment, looking at you with furrowed brows. “Do they… have janitors at piers?”
The moment your eyes lock, you both burst out laughing. You've been like this all night. But it’s quickly cut off by Kino clearing his throat:
“Um, I’m really sorry (Y/N) but Yuto and I have to go; I forgot we have a demo due and we’re nowhere near ready.”
“We do?” Yuto asks.
“Yes,” Kino says sternly.
“Oh, that’s right! Uh, bye (Y/N) and Shinwon, enjoy the movie!”
The second the door closes, you sigh and let out a laugh.
“When should we tell them? It’s getting pretty bad.”
“Hm, I think we can still have fun with it,” Shinwon smirks, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead.
You lean your head against his broad shoulder and relax into him, into the position the boys find you in and squeal about two hours later.

You sigh for the umpteenth time in the last two hours, unable to focus on the pages before you. Honestly, the first 45 minutes were pristine; you wrote out all your study notes for the first chapter of the test, and you were feeling pretty confident. But it started going downhill when you took a break and texted your boyfriend, Jake.
Not that it was his fault. After all, you only told him after 20 minutes that you were at the library to study. As soon as you did, in flooded half a dozen messages: half chastising you for slacking off and the rest telling you to take care of yourself because he 'hates seeing you stressed.' Then, after you texted a reply, you received nothing in return for 12 minutes. So, you begrudgingly set your phone down to return to your papers.
The second you pick up your pen, you feel someone crash into your shoulder.
"Sorry I took so long," Jake says as he slides a drink tray and paper bag onto the table.
You gasp in surprise, but can't fight the smile on your lips. "Why are you here? I thought I couldn't let myself be distracted?"
Your boyfriend chuckles. "I won't let you get distracted. I'm here to bring food to fuel your beautiful brain," he motions to the table, "and give moral support to help you get through it," he grins cheekily.
"Oh yeah? And how do you plan on doing that, Mr. Sim?" You giggle.
"Well... I did bring snacks. And myself. And I'm here to love and support you–"
"And?"
"And I'll help you study. Don't worry, I did this all last semester. And besides... maybe..." A blush rises to his cheeks, making your smile grow.

The colour on his face only deepens as his smile turns sheepish. "How about a kiss for every right answer?"
You grin brightly, placing your hand on his and your lips to his cheek. "Deal."
Before returning to your book and notes, you graciously accept the drink Jake brought you. The first sip sets you at ease; the familiar taste paired with your boyfriend's presence is enough to boost your confidence alone.

you lie in bed, his arms wrapped tightly around you. if you knew any better, you'd think everything was alright. that everything was perfect, and that this was your forever. but you knew otherwise. you knew that in the morning, he'd leave you. just like everyone else did.
tears prick your eyes as you focus on the warmth of his chest behind you. you try to convince yourself that having this for one night alone is okay, that it's better than nothing.
you sniffle and rub your eyes, ridding yourself of your tears as though that'll shake these feelings away.
"(y/n)?" he asks groggily. "are you okay? what's wrong?"
you don't answer. you're too afraid to. what if he laughs at you like the others? what if he leaves because you're such a... mess?
hyunsuk's hand shifts around the sheets to find your own. once he finds it, he begins rubbing his thumb gently across your knuckles, unleashing the sob you were desperately trying to keep inside.
he wraps you in a hug, nuzzling his face for a moment before silently asking you to turn to face him.
"no," your voice shakes. "i don't want you to see me like this. i'm so sorry, hyunsuk."
as you were met with silence, you were sure he would roll the other way to leave. but to your surprise, his hand wrapped around yours gently.
"you have nothing to be sorry about, (y/n). but please know you don't have to be scared of me, okay?"
another sob shakes your body.
"i know it's easier said than done, but i want you to know that i'm not leaving you. i've loved you for so long, i promise i won't run away.
"i know you're hurting, baby, and i'm sorry i can't do anything to help heal the past. but this is us now, right? we can do this. but only if you want us to," he finishes, leaving a soft kiss on your bare shoulder.
you lie still for a moment, his words buzzing around your head and water flowing freely down your cheeks. then, slowly, you remove his arm from your waist.
and then with shaky arms and uneven breaths, you begin to turn your body to face the boy lying next to you. your eyes are closed, afraid to look at him. afraid that looking him in the eyes will make it all real.
"(y/n)," he whispers, softly brushing your hair away from your face. you can hear the emotion in his voice; he was happy and relieved. and overwhelmed, too, just like you. "thank you, baby, i promise i'll never let you go. unless you wanted me to."
finally, you force your eyes open. "i don't want you to let me go, hyunsuk. please," your voice shakes more than you would've liked, but you're glad you could at least speak to him. it wasn't much, but you knew he understood.
hyunsuk gives you the most vibrant sleepy smile, and it actually gives you relief. your body loosens up just a little bit, and he notices. as he places a gentle kiss on your forehead, you feel your heart swell with hope, relief, and love for the first time in a long, long time.

"I'm sorry you've had a bad week and you're not feeling well, but I'm here now. ;et's just stay like this for a while, yeah?"
"Intak, you don't even like napping," you let out a giggle as you snuggle closer to his chest.

i think he would definitely make a big deal out of it! (although i read somewhere that the guys in korea and some other countries too don’t do anything for valentine’s day but they do for white day? maybe? anyway)
you two would spend the night before together so you could wake up in the same bed and cuddle for like half the morning. roll out of bed at say 10am and have some of that heart shaped cereal he bought weeks ago “in case it went out of stock”. he’d be SO excited to give you his gift that he got for you so you decided to exchange gifts just after breakfast. it was a good thing really since now you get to wear the ring he got for you all day 🥰. the afternoon soon passes by in the blink of an eye while you two just talk with some of your mutual friends and play online games with them (since ya know not everyone has a boo and they gotta feel included, you both think so). he goes home to get ready for your evening together. i think he would take you out for a fancy meal in the evening, somewhere that you could get dressed up to go to. he’d greet you with some roses and that wide smile he always does, but you were expecting all of it because he’s been telling you what his “big surprise” would be for the past 2 weeks. you finish eating but you wanna stay longer, when you complain, seunghun laughs and says he’ll stay over at your house again tonight but only if you let him sleep in some of your clothes even if they’re too small. you get home, expecting to have fun, but honestly you’re both shattered, so you decided to snuggle up together on the couch and watch a movie or two with some popcorn. his head soon slips down onto your shoulder and yours follows, straight onto his head, where you stay for the remainder of the night.
overall, he’s just very cliche and romantic on valentine’s day, but isn’t he everyday?! 😳🥲❤️
