Nick giving June complete control

This scene from 2x2 is one of several scenes where Nick gives June 100% full control of a situation even though it could lead to his death.

He has smuggled her to safety, found her location (a heavily guarded secret), and is trying to comfort and reassure her that she is safe and will get to leave soon.

June is hellbent on leaving the Globe and demands his car keys.

He gives them to her- along with his gun. Because he knows if a woman is seen driving in Gilead she will be killed by guardians. He wants her to have every chance of surviving.

He gives her agency to make her own decision. Standing on the loading dock praying. “Come on, come on.” Begging her to think it through.

Which she does. He gave her the freedom to make her own mind up- which allowed her to think further ahead and reach the same conclusion as him. She needs to stay. But it becomes her choice, and therefore tolerable.
