   She beamed, happy that he could at least recognize what it was supposed to be. The redhead most certainly wasn’t the most skilled when it came to cloth and leathercraft. Though, she knew enough to make a simple pack. It wasn’t even an attempt at an actual gift, but more something to try and make things a little easier.

     “Y’don’t have to lie to spare my feelings in this situation. It looks like shit, I know that much, but it carries things all the same and it can make it easier to carry supplies. That’s the goal, really. I’m glad I improved enough from when I made my own and then Kendall’s that it’s at least recognizable…”

   Something was… weird about him, but it was impossible to place. Regardless! He was Kendall’s friend, and that’s what mattered. Since a friend of hers cared about him, she would do her best to be kind and make friends as well. It wasn’t as if it was super easy to find the really nice hiking backpacks that would be the ideal in this situation, after all. She was used to working with her hands, so it was natural for her to try and use her creative skillset to try and make things easier.

“Oh, come on! It looks pretty good for a backpack you made. Don’t think I could ever make somethin’ like that,” not that he’d try. Miles would sooner choke on his own vomit than try to create something for somebody else’s benefit. He was done with that way of thinking. Had been years ago. He chuckled, and slung the backpack over his right shoulder, stared across at her,

[ Whew! Sure was an eventful day around here! With that though, Kravitz is headed to bed. Gotta work early tomorrow.

“You’re really pushin it with the way you’re messing with my family.”

“I AM IN THE RIGHT!! I’M RIGHT!!” he’s screaming at the top of his lungs, the words tumbled out of him. Miles scarcely gave himself a moment to breathe, “KENDALL HAD NO RIGHT TO TRY AND BE WITH THAT DISGUSTING, PUTRID WASTE OF EXISTENCE!!”

A scoff leaves Miles, and he speaks in some disbelief, as though he’s being wrongly accused. again. “Me? I’m doing this for Kendall’s benefit. I’m not some maniacal tyrant. I’m his friend.” His hand had moved to gesture at his own chest, fingers pressed into the front of his shirt a bit too hard. In anger.

So then why did he smile? Why did his voice get this, strange twinge to it: as though something in Miles were sinking, “Besides, he likes it, doesn’t he? That was beat into my head a lot!! So, if that’s what Kendall wants?”

Oh? Did he not look the part?

A flash of light, and then–!!
