Soft lights flickered peacefully along the warm white ceiling, the muted pattering of rain hitting the windows and walls of the apartment filled the emptiness. Soft music hummed along in the background, keeping pace with the consistent beat of the rain. It was days like this that I took advantage of, there was nothing better than curling up on the couch, with a soft fur blanket and a good book, well sometimes. Food was sometimes better than that.Â
Everything was great, no more having to worry about demons and monsters hunting you down, or having to deal with meta-humans, for today at least. It was a small moment that rarely happened that I always took advantage of. In this line of business you never know if that day was going to be your last.Â
The familiar ringing of my phone followed by a sharp meow, cut through my thoughts, ending my temporary moment of peace. Looking down towards my feet, I couldn’t help but laugh softly at the annoyed face of a small black cat. His eyes fixed onto the buzzing device on the table next to me while his tail lashed angry. They really couldn’t handle a simple mission by themselves? One day? I had taken this day off from work to get rid of a stupid headache however it seems like my day was cut short. With a sigh, I placed a bookmark into the book before closing it and grabbing the small metal device and pressing the small button.
