❛ i followed a bear into the forest . . . ❜ his demeanor turns glum, lips curled up in sudden frustration, as if he feels disdain towards something. he averts his gaze and stares into the flames, with eyes as dull and empty as they have been before. ❛ i thought it was . . . a friend. ❜ siegfried exhales a quiet sigh. a slight shake of his head. ❛ but its face became expressionless in the shadow of the dense trees. its eyes lost their character, and just turned black. ❜ like those of a bear. nothing more and nothing less. no longer a friend, or whatever he had seen in them while they had lured him deep into the woods. he huffs, the disdainful curl of his lips intensifying, and kicks the dirt before his boot into the fire with irritation. ❛ like it was just a stupid bear. ❜ he adds, more for himself. but also because he knows that people rarely understand when he speaks about such animals as though they are more. eyes return to her, a crease of confusion upon his brow at last. ❛ if you recall the way you came then why not just go back that way ? ❜
