Seramic - I Got You

so i am doing paralleling projects; Project-1 and Project-2 as time is of the essence for my application. i have been mostly updating my progress in my physical dairy for the projects as it is with me all the time where as i do not have constant access to tech. 

I have been teaching myself effects from Priemer pro online, on youtube. Such as ‘Quick glitch’, ‘Clone effect’, ‘strobe effect’ and ‘zoom effect’. all of which i want to use or at least play with in priemer once it is fully downloaded onto this desktop. 

My main focus this week has been on picking a song/compilation of music for each project. Now for my first project i want to use the song ‘Time’ by hans Zimmer, however i have found a mildly edited version on youtube which i have added to my playlist ‘music for FMP(s)’. I have chosen this song because it is a deeply moving song which holds a lot of emotion to begin with. So paired with a heart felt topic, both raw and relevant, should create the right kind of emotion i hope to provoke in viewers.  However, i then stumbled upon a song called ‘”Vengeance” by Zack Hemesy’, which also fits my protocol for the video perfectly, both beat and tempo; melancholy and monotoned, strangely emotionally stimulating (in a contrast of the same emotion driven from the ‘time’ song). As well as this i have been looking through footage and news reports on attacks around the world from this year and last, to add, cut in-between a-joinging shots, for Project 1. In style of a kind of scratch video, furthermore influenced by the Kuleshov, ( a episodic narrative) which were both early on projects in college i would like to show improvement in. This video i have undecided whether to do as a music styled video with a running narrator or a short film.

For my paralleling, second project, i have been looking at music by ‘Audiomachine’ and, again, ‘Zack Hemesy’. I find when it comes to completely creative projects music is one of the biggest Muses i have. It helps me paint a picture in my head, through the emotions it provokes paired with my imagination. Currently torn between the two (mentioned above) and the iconic song ‘lux Aerterna by Clint Mansell’(more intense). This short piece is heavily designed around the idea of a movie trailer, though at the moment, undecided whether to lay it out as such or again, a short film. depending on my final choices to each project will determine the style of the other, as i want variety in style, rather than two of the same. 

Moreover i want to play around by making compilations of these songs to see what, would/might fit and go well with each individual project. the build, the crescendo and the underlining beat.

I have been trying to come up with a ‘log line’ and what on books they call a ‘blurb’. A longline in the film industry is basically a line or paragraph which, in short, tells you what the screenplay/story is about. My struggle has been keeping it short more than anything.

So i went walking upon the moors recently with my dad and cousin and found a Quarry that is a great location for filming, up on the high moors.

A spellbinding, abandoned quarry, now filled with water and rumbling rocks that cascade the edges of either opposing sides and fill the water like giant sugar cubes. The natural architecture is stoically captivating and is exactly the kind of setting I've been looking for to complete my paralleling second project. 

I have been looking at the kind of style id like to use for my video; whether it be more ascetically purposed or context orientated. Although, of course the ascetics of it all is very important i find most videos these days loose any context because they're so focused on easterly pleasing the public. I would like to do a piece with some real meaning behind. somethings thats made me stop and feel deeply about it. So in light of this, i want to do my context based on the recent bombings and attacks that took place in over Twelve countries in the last few year and a bit. They're shock and bitterness traveled world wide and left an impact to great to simply move past.

I plan to have the contextual narrative running throughout, represented by news reports, eye-witness accounts etc. Broken up by episodic shots, that are if anything, connotations of context. 

The form of the piece will be a short story, inspired by the style of spoken word. approximately between 2 - 3 minutes long. 

Starting with a belated FMP i am working my way towards university.

I was dabbling between the idea of a music video showing my improvement/developments or a movie trailer. However i am keeping the movie trailer idea on hold until further tim, in which i have more resources and innovations to give it a fair shot, so to speak. so looking between my best pieces of writing and what i want to convey in my project, i found the method of spoken word was a strong point. And many short films are made in this style.

These spoken word pieces usually span across things like self belief, disorders, bulling, growing up, things like that. a really insparational muse of mine, for this was the video ‘To this day’ by Shane Koyczan.

For my FMP i want to do a short film based on the bombings and attacks that have occurred over the last year or so. Multiple attacks in over tweleve countries;

Brussels 

germany

Normandy

London

New York

Manhattan 

New Jersey 

Orlando

Bangkok

Kasikstan

Aleppo

These have brought great emotion and rawness to my mind and self and many, many others.  I wanted to make something worse writing about, worth talking about. In an attempt to respect to the ones lost, in homage to their loved ones and lives. 

My rough plan so far is to have a collection of images and video from these occasions Ie. news reports, articles and eye witness accounts. Then compiled with the self directed videos that convey the message across, taking with me the idea of episodic clips that underline a narrative. 

so this week, i again have made the unorganised mistake of being band from the ERC(for a week). Due to late returning of equipment. i take full responsibility and use this non filming time to focus, further, on idea research. 

I keep having epiphanies, if you will,  about new ideas for my project. Which granted this far is isn't really comforting i know, never the less i am a very indecisive person when it come to, attempting, to perfect my work. Moreover, most of my influence comes from listening to music, for me this is the most stimulating influence. so, from this; as cliche as it is, a music video is defiantly the style of footage i want to use for this project. I envision massive visual stimulants, very earthy colours and panoramic setting shots. But i also want to convey a narrative in my video by following a character. The character, following my fantasy favoured style, will be fictional. So for the events rather than documentary style filming will be set up. I generally prefer most my footage to be outside rather than studios and green screens, however i still want to incorporate where i can - some effects. Especially in areas in which might be hard to get unedited.

Furthermore, i want to experiment with video effects on premiere, such as a similar effect used in the chart song music video “pillow talk” by the X member of One direction. 

The ‘stretching’ of there faces and distortion; creates, for me, connotations of illusion and confusion, even dream like.
