mikasa moving on doesn’t bother me either. i know that a woman’s happiness isn’t conditional to having a family, but the idea of mikasa being alone her entire life saddens me. i also don’t think it comes out of nowhere. one of her defining traits is that she adores her family and seeks to protect them, so her moving on with her life and having one isn’t surprising to me. i don’t think it shows that she loved eren any less. she literally brings her family to visit him every year (which is honestly also kind of funny. imagining her kids reading “my most beloved, my dear” and side-eyeing it). she also wears her scarf until her death, because even in building her own life, she doesn’t forget eren. she loves eren. he’s apart of her DNA. their connection is soul deep and powerful. he is her soulmate. loving another man doesn’t detract from that, and i’m sure eren would understand. barring his jealous fit, it’s what he ultimately wanted for her.

I don't see any significant additions being made except for the Mikasa and Ymir talk and honestly, I never thought that Yams would literally change the ending. But guess he did. And here we see classic Isayama coming back while he spats on our faces that "Human race is shit and peace was never an option bitches especially after the MC commited genocide!" And ig that's......fine. See, I'm still gonna say I liked the og chapter better but even tho I'm not a fan, this chapter with it's really depressing ending also kinda suits SnK's dark tone. Eren's friends did get to live a long life and Titans power were wiped out at the end of the day by Eren, he fulfilled his mission. It was not all for nothing just because we see the kid running towards that tree, it's left open to interpretation yet again.

The ending still remains a 7.5 to me and the one thing that disappointed me the most is Mikasa's ending. Like I said before, I never wanted a Titanic 2.0 ending for Mikasa and Eren and I was content with Mikasa's ending in the og chapter. As someone who strongly believed that Eren was gonna die and EreMika is gonna have a tragic ending since 2018, I always imagined Mikasa staying single after Eren's death while she finds a new purpose in her life. It's not like I never wanted her to "move on" from Eren or anything, it's just that's how I perceived her character (like Violet Evergarden, Tsukuyo and Hana from Wolf children) and Mikasa fits perfectly into that category for me. Still now we've no idea whether that guy is Jean or some rando and whether she got married or not and I find it utterly stupid that Yams would show Mikasa visiting Eren's grave with her husband and kids generation after generation rather than showing her leading a new life with her family. Why I prefer the Eremika ending in the og chapter is because it's shown as something very personal and intimate between these two characters and if this whole family fiasco do come out to be true, it's just gonna leave a sour taste in my mouth.

But one thing that I find interesting for now is how Isayama still shows those bandages wrapped around Mikasa's wrist which made me think that MAYBE...JUST MAYBE Mikasa never got married and never had any biological children. After all, passing down that crest was made a huge deal in the series for Mikasa and rn seeing her till the very end not removing those bandages made me think that maybe she remained single and became a single mother (hell yeah!!). And that panel actually would make more sense to me if it's Armin and co. visiting Eren's grave with Mikasa and the baby is actually adopted. Idc anymore you can call me stupid for this but no matter what Isayama declares in his interview regarding Mikasa's apparent "married" life, I'm forever gonna think that she remained single and started a new family with her adoptive child and lived a good life. It's fulfilling, it's empowering, it's hopeful and I'll always love Mikasa even if my wish doesn't come true.

I’ve just returned from a regrettable jaunt on Twitter and I’m having trouble wrapping my head around why the leaks surrounding Mikasa have created so much turmoil in the fandom. My understanding is rather than a single panel of Mikasa visiting Eren’s grave, we get a sequence of four panels demonstrating how throughout her life she remained devoted to Eren. 

Let me address the first elephant in the room. I’d have much preferred the focus of the final chapter be more on how inexcusable Eren’s actions were rather than additional pages of him being glorified. I am personally uncomfortable with how unbalanced the final chapter continues to be. In amongst his friend’s sadness, we needed something to remind the reader that Eren isn’t a hero. Yes, his friends should mourn him, but the horrific and inexcusable nature of his actions should be thematically written in bold letters alongside that grief. I personally am still extremely uncomfortable with the final chapter because we didn’t get that.

Ignoring that for a moment, it makes perfect sense for Mikasa’s character to be showcased this way. I understand and admire her capacity for unconditional love. I see beauty and poignancy in her never forgetting Eren, and I appreciate that love existing in the story.  So while I uncomfortably squirm that a continued focus on her devotion is all we get, I don’t mind that it’s there. 

Onto elephant number two: Sometime after the four year time skip, Mikasa decided to have a family.

I completely understand those who’d have rather Mikasa stayed single because I think there’s power in that. Had Mikasa been depicted as having a full life while remaining single I’d have applauded that decision. I’d have even preferred it because News Flash to everyone who needs to hear it: Women can have a full and satisfying life without marriage.  Being alone doesn’t mean being lonely. And let us please smash those nasty stereotypes that women need children to be fulfilled. It’s disgusting and demeaning.

But choosing to have a partner who clearly respects and honors Eren’s place in her life? I’m fine with that too. Here’s what I know to be true. Moving on doesn’t erase the past. Moving on isn’t an insult to the past. And personally, I’ve always admired people who find love after loss. I see it as a compliment to the person they loved, not an insult. So I do not understand certain ship communities crowing about how this is “death to Eremika” when a focus on her lifetime of devotion is the exact opposite. This is a solid win for Eremika. I do not understand how it can be viewed as anything otherwise.

In the podcast discord we were talking about this and the obvious reference to Rose and Jack from the Titanic came up.  Spoilers if you haven’t seen the movie, but after Jack dies saving Rose, she chooses to honor him by living the fullest life she can. That life includes marriage and children. Whomever her husband is remains nameless and faceless, and at her death, she is reunited with Jack. My friend Al made the point that no one aspired to be Rose’s husband, they all wanted to be Rose and Jack. Eren and Mikasa are Isayama’s version of Rose and Jack and if the art and fic doesn’t exist yet, I’m shocked.

Five years ago I wrote, “No matter what, Mikasa will survive. She’ll spend her remaining years making sure Eren is never forgotten. She will teach her children, who in turn will teach theirs, about the heroic boy who became a monster to fight monsters—and ended up saving humanity.”  How I wish that last sentence had been true. 

I still want to believe that in AoT world, exist alternate universe. Where the AoT cast have long happy lives, including Eren. Reason why ? Because of this panel of Eren's memory shards

This can't be the future or the past, because this is the world of Attack on Titan Highschool Castes.

Then what gave me hope so much, is this panel :

As we know, Armin's prediction has always come true. In this panel, they already know about the outside world past the walls right ? Why mentioning "There is still a world we don't know past the walls" ?

I don't know actually. This can only be just Isayama throwing easter egg or the Armin panel really means just outside world past the walls in that world.

I just want to see the casts being happy, at least in another world.
