Kicking the leaves in the autumn breeze

‘I can’t let you go anywhere by yourself without you breaking hearts left and right.’

Smirk forms on your face as soon as you turn around and see Hyuck standing right behind you. His eyebrows are furrowed because he believes that it makes him look more intimidating. It doesn’t work on you. You can definitely recognise the amusement in his voice.

'You were supposed to leave that bookstore with two books, not two books AND a boyfriend.’

'That’s my charm and I have to live with it. Can you believe I didn’t even get a discount?’

He sighs heavily and stands there silently for a moment with his eyes closed. When he opens them again, your wide grin appears in front of him. You must be satisfied with his reaction and as much as he loves seeing you like that, he has to have the last word.

'Next time, I’m coming with you.’

When you respond, a smile is not leaving your lips and honestly, sometimes you hate how difficult it is to suppress it with Hyuck around. The way the left corner of his lips twitches tells you that he struggles with the same thing.

'Lee Donghyuck being jealous? What a concept! I thought you were so sure that there’s no one better than you in this world.’

'Huh? Jealous?' 

He raises his voice as if he has just heard the most offensive thing and he stares at you with wide eyes, grimacing. He earns a laugh from you and, as a bonus, you hit him in the arm. That makes him relax his posture and look down at you with a blinding smile on his lips.

‘You really have to be this dramatic whatever happens, huh?’

‘And that’s MY charm.’ He straightens his body with pride and sighs shortly before speaking again. 'I just feel sorry for that guy.’

It’s not the answer you expected and you unconsciously slow down to be able to watch Hyuck’s face better. He feels like he’s finally in charge and his eyes immediately show it, lightening up and focusing on you too intensely. You notice how perfectly pink his lips are when he starts explaining.

'He feels special because he made you smile but it’s only because he hasn’t seen the way you smile for me.’

You scrunch your nose unknowingly when you laugh at Haechan’s comment. He rests his head against the wall, watching you with a bright smile playing on his lips. You look up at him and the same exact adoration reflects in your eyes.

You watch as his nose moves along with his chuckles. You watch as his messy hair fall down on his perfect face. You watch him blink, his dark eyelashes perfectly visible against his glowing skin. His lips part slightly when he tries to say something but stops.

‘Stay like this. Don’t move.’

You bring your hands to his hair, letting your fingers sink into its softness. You play with some strands that slip from your hands easily before dragging your palms lower, to his nape. You grasp his skin gently, enjoying the way it feels under your fingertips. 

He watches every move you make. You smile at how he has to bite his bottom lip to suppress the urge to move, to kiss you, to hold you, to just touch you. His eyes grow darker, his breath shakier. 

Your thumbs find their way to his Adam’s apple and his jawline, tracing over it subtly. He can’t help but throw his head back slightly, to give you better access to his skin. Then, you touch his shoulders, not forgetting to brush his collarbones. The material of his shirt feels nice to your touch when your hands travel down his waist.

Your eyes, focused on his body until now, find his gaze again. Something in your stomach flips when you understand the spark in his eyes. He grabs you with one of his hands and before you know it, you’re trapped between the wall and his warm body. When he speaks, his voice is quiet but raw.

‘You’re cruel.’

He presses his lips to yours in a quick, powerful motion, leaving you completely breathless. 

Your heart is aching more and more with every second you spend on watching him. You tilt your head unknowingly, taking in his parted lips and slightly furrowed eyebrows. He’s swaying his head to the rhythm, probably unconsciously. Occasionally, his lips move when he mouths the lyrics of the song, not even realizing it himself.

The lights in the karaoke room make him look ethereal. His face shines in red and pink and blue. Then, no lights hit his face and your breath gets trapped in your lungs when he appears again in purples, looking even more beautiful than before. And it repeats, over and over again.

He moves and it’s a warning sign for you. You shift your attention to Taeil who has almost finished the song. Suddenly, you’re able to notice all of the people in the room and you close your eyes, hating how you can only see him among them all.

You can feel the fingers of your right hand twitching, probably overwhelmed with the desire to feel the warmth of his hands. You clench your fist in a desperate attempt to break these thoughts up. 

You can’t be this foolish, you just can’t.

‘Hey. What are you-’

You don’t let him speak. Instead, you press your body to his. You feel the softness of his sweatshirt underneath you cheek. His scent immediately fills your nostrils and your chest rises when you inhale it, feeling calmer as if that was just what you needed. Your hands travel across his back unaware of the shivers that they give him.

He puts his hands on your shoulder, pulling you away from him just so that he can look into your eyes.

'Is everything okay?’

You don’t want to be sappy. You don’t want it to sound insincere. But everything that comes to your mind is: yes, because I’m with you now.

You nod your head and a chuckle escapes your lips - an embarrassed one.

'That was quite dramatic, huh?’

'It wasn’t what I normally get from you, but it was nice. Almost too nice.’

His face lights up with a soft smile that he tries to control. He realizes he’s staring at you, so he takes a deep breath before waving towards the room.

'The others are here already, come in.’

You nod your head once again and make your way to the living room, where your friends are already fighting over popcorn. Your best friend Haechan follows right after, his fingers anxiously scratching the skin on his nape.

Both of you sit down to watch the movie with your friends, stealing glances at each other every now and then, wondering what exactly is that feeling in your chests whenever you look at each other.
