Here is a side by side of my recreation of the “Landscape with Figures in Woods” from the Armory show. Original work is by Katherine Dreier. This was a fun piece to create. It required quite a lot of detail and different shading values. I used a combination of different sketching pencils on a 18 x 24 sheet of medium drawing paper.

This is my favorite drawing as of right now. I really enjoyed working on this. I love the color definition in the image I chose. I tried my best to add the richness of the red in my own drawing. I don’t think the background lighting does this comparison justice but it works for now. I used vine charcoal to outline the overall shapes and placement of the roses. From there I adjusted and finalized the outline of each using a hard charcoal.I used a cheap set of colored pencils (in which I now know to spend the extra $$ next time) to color in the roses. After I colored them in and highlighted where I needed to, I diligently used the hard charcoal to outline and blend in the rest of the solid black background.

They both live underground. Apart from the Eagle.
