I HAD A BREAKTHROUGH!!!!
Today, before work, I was trying to install this script/tool into Maya & it was really frustrating me. Well I finally figured it the out!
There is this tool, called the reTiming tool, I used to use with my Maya that really makes my job loads easier. Professionals have their own equivalent of a re-time tool that they get from their respective studios. Its a great tool for retiming keyframes on a timeline by just inputting how many frames you want between keys, instead of having to click and drag frames at a time. A teacher at Animation Mentor last year gave us a link where we could download an equivalent, online, for free. I used to use it all the time on my old PC desktop computer last year and it made the animation PROCESS loads easier.
Anyway, since I'm about to get started on my new shot, I figured I'd better install the tool so I can get thru it easier. I hadnt installed it yet and all my small little projects were ok, bc they weren't TOO long, so I could get on without it. But I knew I should prob get it installed before I went any further.
So I went thru my notes from school, found the link and attempted to download the tool. (This is all at 6:30, 7am today before I had even had breakfast or showered for work) Anyways the tool wasn't installing into Maya correctly. I checked my notes. I followed all the right steps and NOTHING.
I was like, OK, I'm sure I have a working copy of the tool on my external hard drive I'll just get it from there. I looked on there, in my folders from my old laptops. Nothing. Also checked my old desktops folders on my external (because the desktop I WAS using for school last year is kaput! now). Nothing.
Hmm... Now its been like 15, 20 mins looking around. I tried to download it again from the site. STILL didnt work. I searched all over my hard drive for the old file. Nothing. Now, I'm getting frustrated.I check online for other sites that may have taken the guy's tool and are letting you download it from them. Nothing. I tried a couple of different ways to download it and NOTHING.
SOoo now I'm pissed. I give up, go to work and decide when i get home I'll check on my old, slow, good for nothing, laptop and see if its on there somewhere.....
...soooo I come home. Putz around online for a bit, Facebook, Twitter, email. OK now to try this again.
-> Old Laptop. On.->Search for tool.-> I have my Regular computer (the Mac) on also. Re-download tool.Nothing. And nothing.
I find a forum online where someone had a problem with the tool & figured it out. I try it. NOthing. I'm like why did that work for him not me!So I'm just about to give up now. I'm like, I can still animate without it...its just gonna be a bit of a b*tch ykno? (A big b*tch...named ...Bertha!)Right when I'm about to give up, I decide to try one more thing. I download the tool on my PC crappy laptop, to see if it works there and maybe it will give me a clue.Well it does. And it did!I fix something with the tool's file name on my Mac computer. And the SON OF A GUN WORKS!!!
Man, I got so pumped. I was whooping & barking like a puffed up dog for 2 minutes straight!! It gave me such a RUSH to have figured that crap out! I felt like I could do A N Y T H I N G if I put my mind too it. I felt like a trouble-shooting genius!
Sorry to drag this story on but it just REALLY revved me up! Getting that thing figured out, as simple as it was, is a big-little accomplishment for me today! Didnt want to let that little computer tool get the better of me!!!
Ok. Thats all. See ya laterÂ
