Ellis- a show in immigration
Hey all! I'm working with a local theatre company on producing a show on immigration. Here's the official email Kelly sent out. If you have any stories to share please send them our way! Hello, My name is Kelly Coffey and I am a founding member of a local performance company called Cooperative Performance. We are currently working on a project in collaboration with Alejandra Gonzalez (who will also be performing in the show telling her own personal story of immigration), called ELLIS and we are seeking local stories of immigration. ELLIS is a platform for our local community to share their stories of immigration and cultures. Through this work, Cooperative Performance seeks to humanize and fight ignorance regarding immigration via education and storytelling. We intend to send out a call for submissions to New York as well, but would prefer to keep the stories local if possible. We plan to perform for 3 weekends in February 2018 at Alverno College. We are also extremely interested in the possibility of performing a one time performance at Milwaukee City Hall in the rotunda. We are writing to you for help in the hopes of finding local stories that people are willing to share. We can keep stories anonymous or let people perform their own story if they are willing and able. We have sent out requests for local stories via social media and personal emails, and planning a one day storytelling workshop at Alverno in October (date tbd) for students and community to find ways to tell their own story. We haven't gotten a lot of response in part due to the political fear and unknown in our community related to immigration. We would appreciate your help in any way. This is ultimately a celebration of immigration through various stories and cultures. Below is our call for submissions that we've been sharing. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or thoughts. Thank you! Sincerely, Kelly Coffey http://www.cooperformke.com/ https://www.facebook.com/cooperformke/ *CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS* Cooperative Performance, an avant-garde theatre/dance collective located in the heart of Milwaukee, is calling for story submissions for ELLIS, to be performed in Feb/March 2018. Directed by Kelly Coffey and Don Russell in collaboration with Alejandra Gonzalez, ELLIS is an original adaptation of your personal immigration stories from past to present. Writers/Artists are encouraged, but not required, to perform their own work. ELLIS is a platform for our local community to share their stories of immigration and cultures. Through this work, Cooperative Performance seeks to humanize and fight ignorance regarding immigration via education and storytelling. Submissions must involve an interpretation of a personal immigration story, past or present, with focus on the greater Milwaukee area. We are interested in all forms of storytelling: text, spoken word, poetry, dance, music (traditional or an original song), visual art, short films, etc. Cooperative Performance strongly encourages non-English and bilingual submissions with translation provided. All works should be no longer than 7 minutes and applicants must be 18 or older. Please include your name, email, and phone number with submission. All submissions may be sent via email to Kelly Coffey at [email protected] *DEADLINE to submit is OCTOBER 31st, 2017* Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If selected, you grant permission for directors to respectfully edit work for the final performance piece. Selected applicants will be notified of their piece's acceptance no later than December 1, 2017.
