âiâm a med student. i think i gotta learn to deal with this sort of thing.â she didnât dare acknowledge the fact that, while there was some merit to that thought, it was other peopleâs sickness she had to deal with on the regular. not her OWN.Â
âMy godmother is a nurse. I think sheâd veto the idea as well.â Claire had no reservations about calling anyone out on their poor decisions, especially when a Murdock was involved. âBut I guess I canât stop you,â

As much as the sun hurt her eyes, the womanâs smile hurt more. If Thalia couldâve wiped it off, she wouldâve. But she couldnât, and anyway the woman was buying her a coffee, so she could at least try to be decent. âThanks,â she said for hopefully the last time. âIâd return the favor but Iâm deadass broke. You get how it is.â
âYeah, totally.â Except, Jude had never been broke. No matter how much Mattâs practice struggled, mostly due to the bleeding heart that she had inherited from, her mother was there to provide for in the very least. College, even at Colombia, hadnât been an issue. Neither had law school. âNo need to return the favor. Itâs just a random act of kindness.â
âCan I help you?â Jude asked, her tone neutral, but kept her eyes on the papers in front of her. She sat at a table at the cafe, grading papers and listening to the bustle of people around her. Being around people, no matter her own instincts to hide in her apartment, had always grounded her. âI donât know how you did on the test, if thatâs what you wanted to ask. I havenât had a chance to grade.â

the GREENHOUSE was home for quin. it was safety and the place he felt most comfortable. he spent hours upon hours in the greenhouses , even without taking the gardening club into consideration. heâd water the plants and tend to the plants but usually heâd just talk to them. ( it was a plant thing - he could talk to plants now ). he was mid-conversation with a lovely venus flytrap when someone walked in. he wasnât doing anything out of the ordinary but looking like youâre having a full on conversation with a plant that doesnât talk definitely seemed strange. quin turned around in his stool, a look on his face like he had just been seriously interrupted. â hello - can i help you with something ? gardening club isnât for a few hours. â
Judeâs resurrection was in no way a recent thing. But it hadnât ever been something she really dealt with, unless talking to her priest counted. (Her dad would say that it did. Foggy would disagree and probably send her the number of a psychiatrist.) Bad days still far outnumbered the good days. Gardening helped, she thought at least, gave her something to do with her hands and something to do. It calmed her mind more than grading homework ever had. âNo, sorry. I can leave if you want. Calm back later when the meeting actually starts,â She hovered near the entrance. âI think I have a few worksheets I still need to grade, anyway.â

By now, the area around them was mostly clean. Jude set down her own garbage and cast a glance at Clint. âDo you need a break?â She needed one, not that she would admit that. âI think weâve done enough to earn one, if you do.â
rcsurrectedsâ:
âOh, wow,â Theo breathed, his awe impossible to voice in any other phrase. âIt is a bit of a different experience,â he said to himself. He lowered the camera, then raised it again to his eye, gazing through the small lens. He had it directed toward the south side of the school, but that wasnât what he was seeing through the sight. In fact, the camera he was holding was nothing more than a picture-viewer, a red one, the kind given to kids to keep them quiet until theyâve flipped through the images thrice over. Loaded into it was a film of famous places. It was refreshing, the feeling that he could stand outside, feel the sun on the back of his neck, as he stood and attempted to capture a picture of the building in front of him as something that, in reality, was thousands of miles away. âIt is grand.â
Even years later, the little things still felt off to Jude. Small luxuries left her guilt stricken, like she was enjoying something that she felt she had no right to, but to ignore them left her with just as much guilt burrowed within her. She could not savor what she had and she could not ignore what she was gifted with, the joys of being Catholic, truly, and the joys of coming back to life. Offering a small shaky smile, she said, âI donât think I see the appeal but Iâm glad you are having fun.â
ofempyreansâ:
âi think iâm safe enough. stomach of steel,â she patted her belly, heartily, though she had still yet to dig in - thoughts maybe dwelling a bit too much, too long, on that exact fear. âi mean⌠worst that can happen is a couple stomach cramps, right?â
Jude had had her fair share of gross food. Takeout was always a major food group in her diet, the easiest option when her dad worked late and later, the easiest option besides the cafeteria when she was studying. Sheâd gotten her fair share of food poisoning as well. âIt still doesnât sound too pleasant. Getting sick never is.â
mariwingâ:
â so you canât ACTUALLY prevent me from leaving ? â the joke went right over marisolâs head - she was too caught up in how GOOD she felt. and how HAPPY she was for once.Â
âI mean, unless I missed something, I donât think I have the authority to do anything of the sort.â Jude smiled. âGo have fun. Damn the consequences. Youâre young enough to.â
professionaltroubleâ:
Thalia desperately wished someone would turn off the sun. It was too bright, and everything was too loud. Then again, that was the price of having too much fun. A raging hangover the next day, and barely enough for a merciful coffee. âWhat?â Thalia turned, ready to snap, then relaxed. âSeriously? Thank you so much; youâre literally a lifesaver.â
It had been too long since Jude had had enough fun to get a hangover. From time to time, she had a glass of wine but the college years of partying all night and sitting through lectures with a hangover were long gone, over by the time she started law school. Still, she could recognize the signs of it. âItâs no problem. Just paying it forward.â

â everyone SEEMS so upset - what do you think is going on ? â marisol hadnât felt so LIGHT WEIGHT in years. the downside of childhood trauma. â you wanna get out of here ? break into the vending machines for some snacks or somethingâŚÂ âÂ
âNo clue.â Jude shrugged. âI have better things to do than wait around for something to change.â She needed to study. Much of her time had been dedicated to studying, lately. Torts was kicking her ass. âAs your unofficial, unlicensed legal counsel-â A joke sheâd been making since she was in undergrad, âI have to advise against that.â Â
greenhairedmamaâ:
âif these kids wreck all thisâŚâ lorna dane took great pride in what she did, including decorate for events, namely those events sheâd had a hand in around town. of course, now she was taking pride while sipping a martini on the side of the dance floor, near the doorway to the rest of the hall, talking completely to herself. not that she cared, sheâd done far stranger things. she surveyed her hard work ( done mostly with the aid of her powers of course ) and sipped her martini, not bothering to finish the minor threat, a pleasant smile coming over her face.
The decorations were beautiful, the kind that took more effort than most of the kids at the party would even realize. âIâm not sure about the people in their early twenties,â Her interaction with them had been limited as of late, âBut I would watch out for the teens, especially. I can leave the classroom for five seconds, and my classroom could be wrecked when I come back.â She said. âAs long as the kids have fun today though, I wouldnât care too much.â
ofrcvenantsâ:
âI can tell when people have died, I was just asking for confirmation.â Raynor had lived a long time, lived through too much to really pay much mind to conversation formalities. Not to mention, he mainly talked to the ghosts of people he cared about. âIf its not something you like to talk about, we can change the topic.â
She was numb as she listened to hear him speak. Her death had always been a sore subject for if not for the death itself but what she had been made into after her resurrection. âIf you can tell then you shouldnât need to ask for confirmation.â She said, her tone harsh and uncharacteristic. âI donât think many people want to talk about their...â A beat of silence passed before she said, âNot many people are going to want to talk about things like that.âÂ
Waiting in line to order a coffee, Jude turned to the person behind her, âI could cover the cost of your coffee, if youâd like.â She offered with a smile. A priest had told her once, well, told her fourth grade class, that there were few things more pious than making the lives of those around you, even, especially, strangers, a little easier. It was advice she took to heart both during the years of spandex and heroism and now when her life had settled down a lot. âItâs no trouble to me.â
scbotageâ:
a cigarette dangling between her lips, she rubbed her back pockets in a less than graceful fashion. she couldnât have left it, she never did. giving up, bea removed the cigarette and looked around. she had a few minutes before she had to go into work, and if she couldnât smoke while she waited, what was even the point ? finally, she spotted someone who could get her out of her little jam. â hey, buddy, ya gotta light ? â she asked, showing him the back of her hand, cigarette between her index and middle finger.
Even on the weekends, Jude spent a lot of time working. There were papers to grade and lessons to plan. It was not something she lamented, not at all. She was just as restless and just as desperate to keep her thoughts from settling on topics she avoided. Papers tucked into her bag, a few tucked under her arm, she made her way to P&Pâs to get a bit to eat and some coffee while she graded the work her students turned in. She paused, turning to the other woman. âSorry, I donât.â She said with a frown. âI have some money on me if you want to go grab from the store.â

âIâll pass on the chili.â Jude said with a shake of her head. âYou could try saving some, eat it at a latter date.â She offered.

âNo, Iâm good, I think.â Jude furrowed her brow, vaguely disgusted. âAre you sure thatâs a good idea? I wouldnât want you to get sick.âÂ
