Summary:
Matt is happy for his best friend and heâs excited to celebrate with him, but heâs not yet drunk enough to forget Sylvie and the boys are at home having fun without him. Itâs weird being out without at least one of them with him. For the past several months heâs been at work, at home, or at the boysâ school with the occasional drop in at Mollyâs.
A club like the one they rented out for Severideâs bachelor party is a whole new world for him.
So is the buzz heâs currently feeling. Being buzzed is different than being drunk. When buzzed, Mattâs ability to compartmentalize disappears and the floodgates open to all his doubts and fears. Or to questions heâs been pondering for months now. Heâs had one single question in the back of his mind and heâs refused to let himself think about it.
Heâs convinced himself it would be rocking the boat and he would rather keep sailing smoothly than risk capsizing his relationship.
But now heâs alone in the back of the club with a little too much whiskey in him and doubting his decision.

Summary:
Violet gasps while Stella stands up from the table, eagerly snatching up the entry packet.
âOh! Yes! Hell. Effing. Yes. Is this for real? Itâs not some sort of knock off or scam?â Stella asks, eyes hungrily scanning the pages in front of her.
Sylvie claps her hands together and bobs up and down on her feet like a kid waiting in line for ice cream. âItâs real.â
âYou have to do it!â Violet yells, standing with them. âYou will kick total ass!â
âAnd you can use part of the money to get that dress you tried on last weekend!â Sylvie adds, grabbing Stellaâs arm with an urgent expression. âThat was your dress! I donât care what that price tag said!â
âUh, somebody wanna fill the rest of us in here?â Severide asks, brow furrowed in confusion. He glances over at Matt where he stands at the end of the table. âDo you know what theyâre talking about?â
He opens his mouth to answer but he never gets the chance. Violet seems unable to contain herself as Brett and Kidd read over the forms in the folder Sylvie brought with her.
âBattle of the Brides!â Violet exclaims. âItâs a competition show!â

This is an attempt at something a bit different. A one shot, based on a head canon I havenât been able to get rid of since the season 9 finale. Warning of extreme fluff.

Moving back to Chicago wasnât something neither Ava nor Sarah thought they would ever do, but Texas just wasnât working anymore. While the rent was cheaper they were squished in a place only meant for one person and to be quite honest the two of them were lonely. Sure, they had their almost four-year-old daughter that constantly had them laughing, but they had no real connection to the place and no one except each other.
It wasnât an easy decision by any means, and Sarah begged an embarrassing amount for her old job back, even if it meant working under Dr Charles again. The years of being away from him did her a lot of good, she was a different person now, and happier for it. She had it in her to be able to at least try to forgive him, no matter how difficult it would undoubtedly be.
Ava had it easier when it came to finding work. One of the CT attendings transferred hospitals so the position was open and she was accepted almost immediately. But with moving back came Connor Rhodes and a long-overdue conversation. She knew she would have to do it eventually, as Birdie got older she became more and more curious about the concept of âdadsâ and why she didnât have one. In fact, after a play date with one of Avaâs surgery partnerâs kids, sheâd decided to ask for one as a Christmas gift. It was enough for Sarah to put her foot down and get Ava to call Connor. He was shocked when she told him. Who wouldnât be after finding out you had a daughter and your ex-girlfriend was dating your old colleague? But after the initial surprise, Connor asked to be in Birdieâs life, whether it be as her dad or a friend.
That made coming back less scary.
So they packed up their lives and moved across the country for what would hopefully be the last time. After a bit of hesitation and a lot of questions beginning with âwhyâ Birdie was excited about going to Chicago and meeting her momsâ friends and her dad, repeating all of their names and constantly exclaiming âI have a Papa too!â any time the topic was brought up.
They were confident in the decision but didnât realise how good of a choice theyâd made until they got to their new apartment and were greeted by all of their old friends. It was a mess of cardboard boxes and furniture, but everyone they considered family was there. There were a lot of hugs, a few happy tears and long catch-ups, and of course introductions when the doctors and nurses realised that there was a child as well. Although she was a social butterfly and made friends with every person she came across, Birdie hid behind Sarah from all the grown-ups. Sheâd just arrived at a new place where everything was packed away and empty looking and now there were a lot of new faces in her house! It would make anyone feel shy.
Her timidness didnât last long after she was introduced to Connor though, who arrived fashionably late and not empty handed. Heâd brought with him a small crocheted rabbit, light pink with a blue ribbon around its neck.
âClaire made it,â He explained, looking to Ava for approval before making any move. âSheâs excited to be an aunt if youâre alright with it.â
âWhy wouldnât I be? Sheâs your daughter too, thereâs no reason for me to dictate whether or not she can see your family,â She replied with surprising warmth. âI want this to work Connor.â
âSo do I.â
âThen prove it.â Ava turned to Sarah, who nodded and knelt to where Birdie was hiding behind her.
âSweetheart thereâs one more person you have to meet today, and then weâre done. Is that okay?â She whispered, not flinching as the little girl threw her arms around her, still trying to hide. âCan you just say hi? Heâs very nice, I promise.â
âYou sure?â Birdie asked, hiding her face in Sarahâs shoulder as she did so.
âIf heâs not then I owe you a dollar, how about that?â
She nodded and walked to Ava, who picked her up and held her on her hip.
âThis is Connor. Heâs your dad, chickadee.â Ava looked at him expectantly.
âHi, Birdie. This is for you.â He handed her the teddy and watched as her face lit up.
âWhat do you say?â Sarah prompted quietly, smiling at the three of them.

Summary:
Matt isnât really enthusiastic about holidays. Growing up, his family never made a big deal out of them, not with his parents constantly fighting and certainly not after his mom went to jail for murdering his dad. As he got older, he just learned to treat them like any other regular day.
The last few months, things have been changing though. Matt suddenly finds himself in a better mood when it comes to observing holidays. He starts to look forward to them and it all started because of Sylvie Brett.

âMatt? Matt Casey?â
His head shot up and his smile softened, but remained firmly on his face, at the sight of this figure from his past. âViv?â he questioned, pushing the shopping cart towards Hallieâs older sister. While he periodically spoke with Hallieâs parents on the phone to make sure they were keeping ok, he hadnât seen her sister since Hallieâs funeral over ten years ago. It was an unexpected shock to the system to say the least.
It wasnât an abnormal occurrence for Matt not to find Sylvie in the common room when he arrived on shift. She was often already on restock and inventory with Violet. But it was abnormal that her coffee mug was still on the counter.
