The way I hc a!Dave is very victim to perpetrator pipeline. Did the whole childstar thing, got molested and sexually abused in hollywood like they usually do and pretty much just considers it paying his dues to get where he is as an adult now. That's showbiz, he knows he definitely shouldn't say anything in public about it cause it's wrong but its so normalized in the industry as one of those things that happens and nobody talks about for the sake of perpetuating the industry. He's convinced himself it really wasn't that bad and feels nothing about it happening to other kids.

I also don't think he's actually into them very young but he's probably fucked some teenage groupies incidentally. He doesn't bother learning their names why would he be asking their ages. He does however really get off on social taboos in a "the wrongness of me getting off to this is making me get off to thing" kinda way. He has no idea how to talk to kids cause he never even really experienced anything close to how adults with not bad intentions talk to kids. The video messages he leaves Dirk are, pretty packed with shit you should never show a kid and he's kinda thinking about that when he records them but no ones gonna ever know anyways.
