In the meantime I was reading an FBI document as a part of my work calling those who oppose data centers "anti tech extremists" & as the Original Anti Tech Extremist it woke Al up like a sleeper agent.

al doesn't perceive rosie as a maternal figure whatsoever. depending on the iteration, she can either be a friend or possible mentor & ally, but largely he views her as an antagonistic colleague with the power to make his life significantly worse.
my hot take is that she invokes a maternal air with him for the same reason she calls him a pet, because she knows they get under his skin. A contract of any kind is not enough to keep Al under control, & she knows this. By keeping him essentially perpetually off-balance in their interactions, she can steal little wins in the long term kind of mind games he plays, waste his time & cognitive bandwidth. He has to put up with her, & it leaves him with little patience left for anyone else. It's, a strategy.
That or she Really doesn't know, lmao.
I once mentioned it, but I'll mention it again, due to his form in hell being a taxidermy model composed of his own remains & that of a deer, with effort, he's capable of passably looking Human from a distance just as he is a deer.
Its not until you get closer & see the blood all over his face.

my interpretation of al is sex neutral ace & greyish romantically. he can count the people he's loved on one hand, & he can't say he's ever been in love with anyone.
Most of his feelings toward others are sort of, muted, desaturated & blurry. He finds most claims of romantic love to be overwhelming & exaggerated. He more or less views it as something everyone else has universally agreed to be dishonest about (like grief).
Relationships with him often Feel one-sided even when he reciprocates. He'll never feel exactly the same way. In a long term partnership involving even like, copulation & marriage, it's always sort of edging on queer platonic from his end. He's happy to engage with the trappings of it all (to a point) so long as you don't expect some big, internal shift. Loving you is rare enough, don't push it. ❤️
got some professionally upsetting news, sorry if I've been a bit off / irritable lately.
found out around a week ago that the manuscript I've spent the last 2 & half years on has been dropped by the publisher. Without violating any ndas it's a part of growing internal tension under the new administration & "shifting social atmosphere". So say I'm disheartened is an understatement. writing isn't my primary source of income but what is is organized labour... & You can imagine how that's gone for the last year.

Alastor's manipulation is almost always bent towards making others wary of him. He wants to be left alone, & because of that he wants to appear as unpredictable & unsettling as possible. He wants you to respect him, to listen to him & due in no small part to race, sex, economic status, & stature, the "legitimate" methods of attaining this fell through. Fear became the most reliable way after all the others failed. Respect, fear, means safety. Obfuscating weaknesses & proving himself capable of extreme retaliation became increasingly necessary

He does this to everyone, he puts his worst foot forward & only then does he relay any kind of compassion
It's important you realize you should be afraid of him, & he'll utterly obliterate anything good he has to attain that fear at his worst. Because safety is more valuable than comfort.

Your reputation! Truly a joy to talk with. It's so fun to have someone match me for my insane nonsensical rambles. The level of research that goes into the time period and everything that makes Alastor is always so enjoyable to read, every time you throw out historical facts that you've reached I'm eating them up (the mausoleum thing was so interesting to me, I didn't know that!) and you were very kind to me when I first rejoined the rpc like a month ago? Overall a really kind person with a lot of new, fun & fresh ideas to add to Alastor's character and makes plotting enjoyable! >:)

the funniest thing about chatting with other rpers in the community is that my al very much viewed getting out of his deal as a matter of life or death. that if the conflict had taken any later or around the hotel there would have been casualties, & that rosie is effectively knowingly leaving him to die.
versus nearly every rosie absolutely misinterpreting the gravity of the situation & nearly every vox baffled by the insinuation. it really just makes him seem absolutely distrustful & paranoid, which is true lol, lmao.

that one markipl*er audio where he's speaking to the audience & pausing to jingle keys " jingle, jingle, pay attention -" to bring their attention back to him as he continues the relatively boring story. that but it's just al unbuttoning the top button of his shirt.
one aspect of writing al I could not have predicted if you asked me was radio itself infecting my brain as a special interest. I only picked up a couple books on it so I could write Al as educated on the subject convincingly & now I'm about 5 in & extremely weird about it.
Date idea: Al explains the history of radio autistically to you fully clothed.
