the way that ADHD meds actually really work for overcoming executive dysfunction and focus.. its so crazy that people just call it meth and claim people are abusing it. this literally makes me a functional adult.
not just "functional adult" as in "functional in the workplace", either. ADHD meds are what give me the executive functioning to plan and cook healthy meals for myself. to keep track of time instead of "oops it's 2am" every night. to not get overwhelmed by the prospect of texting back my friends and family. to engage with the hobbies that I love instead of sitting in a chair staring at the wall just crying because every step of getting up and getting started feels like an impossible barrier. to not feel like I need to hurt myself just to get rid of the constant feeling of "under my skin is itchy and my brain is buzzing like hornets".
it's not about doing better in school or being a better worker drone or whatever. ADHD meds are what let me keep myself physically and mentally healthy. they give me the ability to be social and plan and do the things that I love doing. the meds don't make me perfect at any of this, but they give me a chance at achieving some of them sometimes. and even that much is utterly life-changing.
