Days off came by rarely, especially with how heavy the toll of the war at St. Mungo's had gone up. Somehow she still managed to find herself busy. It was just like the summers of her Hogwarts years, spent working at Dogweed and Deathcap. The old man had sent her an owl, requested her to help out while he went to visit family. An emergency, apparently. How could she say no to that. And truly, she never had. Never would.
She'd been busy restocking some of the small packages of fertilizer onto a shelf when the sound of the doorbell caused her to look up. "Oh, hi. Welcome!" Mary, ever the bright and smiling one was beaming yet also finding it of utter importance to make it clear she did not suddenly work here instead of St. Mungo's. "If there's anything I can help you with, let me know. The owner had a family emergency." And she spent far too much time with plants as it was.
Ceren smiled back immediately. "Hi." She'd spent the last two days researching a muggle author and reading her books so she hadn't had much contact with real people so it was nice to see Mary. "Oh I was wondering where he was. I do hope he's alright. Maybe you can help me, I'm looking for some Dogweed but one of the Mexican variety. He told me he would be getting some in last week and I didn't have time to stop by before."
The witch wasn't one to entertain people or conversations for long unless they served her a purpose. In this particular case, the small favor had been done and she was granted a chance to call it back in the future-- she didn't care for the rest of the details or enthusiasm about birthdays or family that seem to transpire from the younger girl. "I do understand, and I'm glad it's going to be a good birthday, especially considering the thoughtful presents," Sabrina offered with a smile that said she was finalizing the conversation. "I'll see you around?"
"Thank you so much for your help. I hope you have a lovely day." Ceren smiled at her, her tone genuine as she looked at the taller brunette. There were still nice people around, if you put out the right energy into the world you would get it back.
Sirius smiled at her, it was a genuine smile. They were friends, unexpected ones but good friends. He brushed his hands on the back of his pants and followed her around, letting her decide the route and he'd simply follow.
He nodded his head understandingly and then listened to her talk about her sister. Deep down, there was a part of him who envied her, who wished he could have that type of relationship with Regulus. "Is she your only sibling?" He asked softly.
Being around Sirius felt easy, she didn't have to put on a front for fear of being judged.
"No I have another younger sister, Eda, she's 13. She's a Hufflepuff. Excellent violin player." She gushed, clearly the proud older sister. She'd always been protective of both of her sisters, but with Eda being quite a few years younger than her she felt even more responsibility to watch over her. Melek was graduating Hogwarts this year so Eda would be all alone at school which did worry her, but then again, there was no place safer than Hogwarts.
Bella was bored. A bored Bella had always been dangerous. She started looking for entertainment, for something to break. She wasn't even sure what the book she held was about, but when she had overheard another asking so desperately for it, and that there was only one copy left, she had taken off to intercept them and grab it before they could.
"So, I can give up the only copy of this book, one that could take months to find another version of, and in return you'll buy me a drink in a bar... Forgive me if I think I'd be better off keeping the book and buying myself a drink." A carefully manicured nail tapped on the cover. "You're going to have to do better than that."
Of course Ceren knew of Bellatrix Lestrange, formerly Bellatrix Black. There had been whispers about her the entire time she was at Hogwarts. Needless to say the brunette was intimidated but tried her best not to show it. That was exactly what people like Bellatrix wanted and she did not want to give her the satisfaction.
"He said there should be more arriving in a week or two. It's just my sister's birthday this weekend so I need it now." She explained, although she was pretty sure her explanation fell on deaf ears. "I'm not sure what else I have to offer you. "

"You sound like an amazing older sister, looking out for them and being very thoughtful about her presents," Sabrina commented, the smile on her face still polite but not quite as honest as one would hope. "I do, I have an older brother and I love him very much," she added with a nod, letting her smile turn the slightest bit more sincere as it reached her eyes. "You should check the shop down the street, they sell the most beautiful ones."
"They do the same for my birthday." She loved birthdays whether it was her sisters or her friends or her own. It was the perfect occasion to show people how much they meant to her and she loved finding the perfect thing for each of the people she loved. Be it something they mentioned they liked off handedly or something she explicitly knew they wanted-seeing the joy on someone's face when they unpacked a present was something that warmed her heart. "Then you understand how I feel." Being an only child would surely be quite lonely, she couldn't picture it. "Thank you! I'll check it out once I'm done here."
"Thank you, dear" he grinned as he brushed off some of the grass from his pants. If only he shifted into Padfoot, he could help her much quicker. Lately, his sense of scent was quite sharp, but she didn't know about that. Pretty much no one but the boys knew.
"Ah, then walking it is" he said instead and gestured for her to lead the way. "Ah, smart girl" Sirius nodded his head, clearly agreeing with that vision and actual took a mental note to do that. And also, he needed to update his first aid kit back home. "She sounds like a very caring person" he said softly.
"That's what friends are for." She smiled at him, her tone genuine as she waited for him to stand up. It was good that she stumbled upon him, she felt safer in his company than she did alone.
"It isn't the quickest way but I think it's the most efficient. Especially if the goal is to preserve the plant for the potion." Ceren explained, walking ahead- "She has a very kind heart." Her eyes lit up whenever she talked about her sisters, clearly fond of them both.
"Remind me again to never accept Aberforth's home made liquor" he groaned, rubbing the back of his neck. He and Ceren were polar opposites, yet they seemed to work out how to complement each other and ended up building an unlikely yet wonderful friendship.
"Asphodel" he repeated, his brain trying to recollet what he remembered of such plant. "Sure thing" Sirius nodded his head as he began to follow her. "Have you tried summoning some?" He offered. Sometimes he relied too much on magic, but it was so practical. "Why does she need asphodel for?"
"I'll make a mental note of that." Ceren chuckled. He reminded her a lot of her cousins back in Turkey with that easy going charm of his. Being his friend wasn't difficult to her even now after graduation.
"I am afraid that summoning it could damage it. I would like to collect it with the root if possible." Ceren explained. It would be easier with magic but in this instance the muggle way was better. "She wants to make some Wiggenweld Potion, thinks we should all carry some healing potions with us in case someone gets injured or poisoned. Melek worries a lot and carrying it with us would ease some of her worries."
"You're welcome, darling." Sabrina held her smile, polite and just charming enough, raising her brows as if to show sudden interest. "Is she your younger or older sister? Are you getting her anything else?" The witch asked, picking up another book from the shelf.
"She's younger. I got two younger sisters. I'm the oldest. Do you have any siblings?" She loved her sisters and has always felt protective over them. Being an only child wasn't something she could ever imagine. "I am thinking of getting her a bracelet as well, I saw one she might like."
Sirius looked up and rested on his elbows. A smile came quickly to his lips when he saw Ceren. It was a highly unlikely friendship, but one Sirius cherished more than he let other people know. Eventually he sat down and then got up with a groan. Fuck, he was still hungover.
"What the hell are you doing wandering the woods alone?" He chuckled, moving closer to her and pulled her into a warm hug. It would be hypocritical to say that it was dangerous to be alone, because that's what he had been doing. Resting even. So freaking reckless. Eventually, he let go of her and smiled. "Need some company?"
"Rough night?" She raised an eyebrow in amusement at the noise. He was always more outgoing than she was, but she appreciated that about him. If he'd been like her she wasn't sure if they would've become friends.
"I'm looking for some Asphodel for my sister. It's said to grow here. It shouldn't take long. I didn't want her to go." She got her wand with her and went out in the day time, taking the necessary precautions wasn't something easily forgotten, still better her than her 17 year old sister. "I would love some company. Another set of eyes might be helpful as well, so far i've come up empty."

"Well, good luck on your book quest." He gives a stiff bow, his dear mother would be scandalized if he was seen being anything less than proper in public. (What she doesn't know won't kill her.)
"I'll be in the back should you change your mind."
"Sorry, it's been a long and stressful morning. I am not fully present yet." Physically she was here but mentally she had been struggling with headaches as well as researching a new subject her brain was split into three hundred different directions. "I do not think them any less than us. The fact is that they cannot be faulted for not knowing what actually happened and trying to fill that gap. It is only human to try and understand. It can be silly at times, sure, but we have to remember that they have no idea magic exists." Clearly this was a subject she was quite passionate about.
"Oh well.. thank you, I do hope he can be convinced to let me buy the book the proper way. It wouldn't feel right to get it in such a manner. Thank you for offering to help me. You don't have to do that."
"Oh this one?" She asked the younger witch as she raised the copy of the book, a curious grin on her lips as she let it show just how important it was to her. Surely, Sabrina could've taken advantage of the moment and ask for more in exchange. However, she'd learned there was more to gain if people felt they owed you something without having to make it a formality. "Oh, no trouble darling, you can have it. Make your sister happy."
"Yes, that's the one." She nodded with a friendly smile, letting out a relieved sigh when the brunette gave it to her. Perhaps this day was turning around to be a good one after all. "Thank you so much. I really appreciate this."
Barty’s eyebrows shot up, a genuine glint of interest replacing his smirk. "Muggle theories on the pyramids? Now that is a rabbit hole. I’ve heard they think those stones were moved without a single Levitation Charm, impressive imagination, really." He shifted his weight to the balls of his feet, glancing around as if to make sure no one is listening.
"Cecelia, right? Ravenclaw. I thought you looked familiar." He gestured toward the stubborn clerk. "If it’s for Melek’s eighteenth, we can’t have you showing up empty-handed. But Pringle there is a lost cause; he lives for the rules." Barty leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial hum.
"Forget the bribe. I’ve been snooping around this place for hours waiting for Hawthorn's release. I happened to everhear sine chatter saying the delivery owl for the latest releases is resting behind shop before they process the stock. If we’re quick, we could snag a copy from the crate before it even hits the desk."
He gave her a challenging look. "Consider it field research. You coming?"
"I have read about something called Aliens? They believe beings from another planet have showed them how to build the pyramids." As they had no idea about magic it was only logical for them to fill the gaps of knowledge, but the thought of aliens did feel farfetched to her.
"Ceren, but yes. I was in Ravenclaw. You're Barty right? I think we had Potions together?" She wasn't offended that'd gotten her name wrong. It was kind of close. Sort of. Besides, she didn't spend much time with the Slytherin's in her year. It was mostly Ravenclaws and the occasional Gryffindor or Hufflepuff. Slytherins tended to stick to them selves.
Rules existed for a reason, sure some would say they were meant to be broken but she did not agree with that saying. "Oh um.. no I can't do that. I don't think it would be allowed."
Barty tilted his head, stepping closer as the clerk’s dead-eyed expression remained unchanged. "Fifi LaFolle, eh?" he mused, a sharp edge of curiosity in his voice.
"Strays from my usual reading, though I hear her sensory descriptions are well renowned. For your sister?? A noble cause, but you’re fighting a losing battle with Pringle here. He wouldn't sell his own mother a quill before opening hours." He leaned against a shelf, his eyes lingering on her face as that flicker of recognition grew.
"Research, you said? That sounds far more interesting than fantasy book. What could possibly be so engrossing that you'd forget a deadline at Flourish and Blotts?"
"She's Melek's favorite author. Has been since she was deemed old enough to read a Fifi LaFolle book. Hooked from the first one." Ceren chuckles, clearly fond of her younger sister. She was turning 18 this year, it was her last year at Hogwarts.
"I read a few of them, but not all. They are quite complex, actually. More than people give them credit for." Romance novels were easily dismissed but she thought it was important to read a wide array of genres, change it up sometimes. She read a mix of authors, both muggle and wizarding ones.
"Did I say that out loud?" She mused, shrugging. She must have. "When I research a topic I tend to dive deeply into it, no matter what it is." She liked finding out whatever she could about things that caught her interest. "I was looking at muggle information on ancient egypt. They have fascinating takes on the pyramids and how they came to be."

Barty browses the columns and rows of books, his finger tracing the spines as he passes. Rumor has it that Marilyn Hawthorn, author of Magical Traces and Signatures, is holding a limited edition sale of her newest novel right here at Flourish and Blotts, and Barty is determined to snag a copy. Sure, he might be a little early, about five hours, give or take, but he doesn't mind the wait.
His attention is immediately drawn to the front desk, where a vaguely familiar young woman is attempting to bribe a clerk who looks like he isn't paid nearly enough to deal with her. The corner of Barty's mouth twitches in amusement.
"What’s got you so out of sorts?" he calls out, a heavy tome on advanced Transfiguration tucked firmly under his arm.
"I need the new Fifi LaFolle book for my little sister. Quite desperately." She sighed, running a hand through her hair, clearly frustrated. It was her own fault, she was supposed to get the book days ago, but she got caught up in her research. "You see, she has all the other novels of the Enchanted Encounters series and I want to get it for her birthday."

"No you don't understand. I need this book. This is the last copy. It's my little sister's birthday in two weeks and this is her favorite author." When she first got into the store they told her she was lucky and that they had one copy left, but before she could grab it from the shelf someone else got to it. So now Ceren was grasping at straws, trying to reason with them. "If you let me have it I'll buy you a drink." Clearly a dire situation meant that she wasn't above bribery to get what she wanted. And maybe throwing in her best puppy dog eyes. "Please?"
