Having seen the traditional example of the abundant use of patterns in Japanese woodblock prints, I was very intrigued by the unspoken harmony within the patterns. How were the numerous patterns put together and how did the artist managed not to make them clash? Yasunari is a contemporary example of this mastery. He uses these patterns abundantly on the background depicted women’s clothing yet done so with the utmost grace, emphasising the women’s sensuality and exquisiteness. 

There is a debate on whether this is a legitimate art movement and whether lowbrow art can be categorised as fine art. I believe it is a very interesting and aesthetically stimulating art movement. And it has inspired me to experiment with conflicting imagery in my prints.

I like the way Woodman’s photographs both reveal and conceal her presence. As the subject, she seems mysterious and airy. There seems to be a special connection between her and the places in which the photographs were taken.
