My name is Celine and I like to draw and write

I remember those car rides Always in the back seat

Back in those summer breezy days

Soaking up the perfume of evergreen trees and sun rays 

I was never the navigator 

Because I liked being passenger 

Trusted we would reach our destination

Without any doubts or questions

I would daydream

Because life to me was like a dream

I liked looking out the car window 

Spotting the occasional rainbows

Never paying mind to the street and freeway signs 

But rather the sunset and sunrise.

I pointed out the pastel pink and purple clouds 

As my sister and I sang aloud

To pop songs by Bruno Mars 

Until it was dark, stars painted so stark

Eighteen years fly by me

Discreet like the rings on chopped trees

Of not knowing how to retrace 

My way back home, or to navigate the cityscape 

Fast forward, now that I have escaped 

I still don’t know how to navigate 

My life as one big road 

Not reading the signs and making the wrong turns

A new city 

A feeling as foreign as being free

This time around, I don’t want life to pass me by,

So I’ll stop staring at the sky. I will steer the wheel 

steal out the star, and

Be drawn out like a rodent on a road
